The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons has boarded the cast of The Leader, a new true-crime drama based on the infamous Heaven's Gate cult
The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons has signed up for a forthcoming true crime thriller centred on the infamous Heaven's Gate cult.

Specifics about the sitcom favourite's character remain shrouded in mystery.

Nevertheless, he'll be appearing alongside the previously confirmed Tim Blake Nelson and Vera Farmiga, who will portray UFO cult masterminds Marshall Herff Applewhite and Bonnie Lu Nettles.

During Heaven's Gate's operations from 1974-1997, the organisation convinced hundreds of devotees to withdraw from mainstream society and desert their loved ones, driven by the conviction they would transcend their physical forms to achieve the 'Next Level'.
Their doctrine reached its tragic conclusion when 39 individuals ended their lives in March 1997, including Applewhite, marking America's most devastating mass suicide to date, reports the Express.

The supporting ensemble features Simon Rex, Grace Caroline Currey, Matthew Glave, William Mapother, JB Yowell, Kelly Lynn Reiter, Danielle Vasinova, Blake Robbins, Jana Gallagher, Paten Hughes, Molly Robbins, and Jill Winternitz.
Dexter favourite Michael C Hall was also confirmed as part of the lineup shortly after The Leader was initially revealed at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2023.
Leading man Nelson coincidentally played supervillain Samuel Sterns, also known as the Leader, in this year's Marvel spectacular Captain America: Brave New World.

Writer-director Michael Gallagher commented on Parsons' casting: "Jim Parsons' mesmerizing, tour-de-force performance will leave audiences with their jaws on the floor.
"We are beyond grateful to have Jim join our phenomenal cast of award-winning actors in this stunning dramatic turn."
Beyond The Big Bang Theory, which wrapped up with its 12th series in 2019, Parsons has recently graced Broadway in the Tony-nominated Our Town.

Wednesday's Agnes DeMille actress's surprising career history as she 'steals the show'

Wednesday's new sidekick has gone down a storm with fans of the Netflix series. Wednesday season 2, which was filmed in Ireland, has launched on Netflix with part one introducing a new character who has already stolen the show ahead of part two's release. ‌ Agnes DeMille, played by Evie Templeton, is a Nevermore student who has an obsession with Wednesday Addams (played by Jenna Ortega) and goes to extreme lengths to get her attention. ‌ After proving herself to be useful and loyal, Wednesday accepts her into the group, much to Enid Sinclair's (Emma Myers) distaste. Evie Templeton is a 16-year-old British actress with a surprising career history as she has only ever had minor roles in films and TV shows. ‌ She made her acting debut in 2022, landing minor roles in BBC period drama Life After Life and Disney film Pinocchio. Before her screen roles, she appeared in Nativity on the UK Tour and also starred in Les Misérables on the West End. ‌ In 2023, she landed her first major role starring alongside Tuppence Middleton in the horror movie Lord of Misrule, playing Grace Holland. She also voices the character of Laura in Konami's remake of Silent Hill 2 - a role she will reprise in the latest instalment of the Silent Hill film series titled Return to Silent Hill. Despite her small list of credits, she has won over the hearts of Wednesday fans across the globe. ‌ The young star took to Instagram to share some behind-the-scenes snaps from the series, sending fans into a frenzy as they hailed her the breakout star. ‌ She penned: "Season 2 Part 1 is out now! Incredibly grateful to be a part of this wonderful show @wednesdaynetflix. Huge thanks to Tim, Al, Miles and all the amazing cast and crew. Here's some BTS for ya x" Her co-stars Hunter Doohan and Isaac Ordonez praised her, with the Tyler star responding: "That's our Agnes Demille!! Congrats Evie!" and the Pugsley star adding: "Great Job Evie!" Fans also flocked to the comments, with Mike Dowler sharing: "Absolutely epic performance! You were destined to portray Agnes in this iconic series!" ‌ Miscellaneousspectrum commented: "You did so well! Your character stole the show." Wakays4 shared: "My new favorite," with sanjay_solo_man_ commenting: "Just watched Wednesday — your acting was phenomenal! Every scene you were in was pure magic!" A fan site concluded: "Evieeee, I loved the character of Agnes, who has definitely become my favorite. ‌

Richard Osman names one country that is 'joy' to visit for unexpected reason

Richard Osman has become a household name in the UK, but his success across the pond has meant he can move around without being stopped by fans of his work Richard Osman has revealed one nation that proves a "joy to visit" for a rather surprising reason. The 54-year-old has established himself as a familiar face across Britain through his roles on television programmes including Pointless and Richard Osman's House of Games. ‌ However, it's his literary career that has catapulted Richard to global stardom. His The Thursday Murder Club book series has proved a smash hit on either side of the pond, earning recognition as a New York Times bestseller. ‌ The Netflix adaptation, featuring stars like Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, is due to launch later this month, reports the Express. Yet Richard reveals his authorial triumph in America has allowed him to wander about completely unrecognised. ‌ During his The Rest is Entertainment podcast, he describes how this makes the US a "joy" to explore. He shared: "Most people don't pay much attention to what authors look like. If I'm in America, it's just a joy because I don't get stopped on the street, all that sort of stuff. "If you're stopped at customs and they say you're an author and who you are, people have heard of you, and have read the books, so it's like you're John Grisham but for America. You can have a whole holiday where you do exactly what you want, where you want." ‌ Richard elaborated that while avid readers of authors like John Grisham might recognise him from book jackets, the general public likely wouldn't. The telly host delved into his experiences in the US after a listener queried about the "best job" in showbiz, suggesting band members with famous frontmen, such as Coldplay, can "live out their best rock and roll life" yet can "probably pop to Tesco without getting hassled". However, Richard pointed out that some folks enter the entertainment industry "to be famous". He added: "I think if you want the joy of being in a creative industry and you want absolutely loads of money and huge amounts of adrenaline but you want to walk down the street, then being in Coldplay is quite hard to beat as a job in showbusiness." ‌ Richard further explained that musicians have to do "loads of promo". His brother, Suede bassist Mat Osman, informed Richard that a band like Coldplay would be expected to sign around 150,000 albums for promotional material. The TV personality concluded that being a travel blogger would be among the top jobs for those seeking anonymity whilst working in the entertainment industry. He added: "You get to spend your entire life on holiday, wherever you go on holiday people absolutely love you, but outside your sphere, no one would necessarily recognise you, that would be a nice entertainment job." Richard's podcast partner, Marina Hyde, revealed that since working on the show, people now approach her "all the time". The Guardian columnist confessed: "I've never had that, I don't think really, at all."

Netflix's Wednesday star on getting GCSE advice from Steve Buscemi

Being given exam revision advice from Hollywood A-lister Steve Buscemi is not something that happens in everyday life. But life for actor Moosa Mostafa hasn't been particularly normal since landing a part in the Netflix hit first season of the show became the streaming service's most-watched series ever, with season two launching last week. In the latest episodes, the 17-year-old actor from Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, reprises his role as nerdy outcast Eugene, with filming in Dublin coinciding with his GCSE exams last year. Tim Burton's production follows Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega, as she returns to Nevermore Academy, with Billie Piper, Joanna Lumley and Buscemi the latest stars to join the cast. "Working with Steve was great, " Moosa told BBC CWR's John Dalziel. "He is genuinely one of the nicest people I've ever met."Filming was delayed, he explained, resulting in revision having to be fitted in between work commitments, travelling back and forth between Ireland and Warwickshire, and often having to revise in hotel who plays Nevermore's new principal Barry Dort, would "take the time out of his day to come and say hello and give me advice," the teenager said. "Before the exams he was telling me 'make sure you do those past papers' and tried to give me revision tests."It was his own little way. The cast were very close." The teenager's first acting role was in Nativity Rocks! - the fourth in the Christmas comedy film series by Coventry writer and director Debbie Isitt. While still at school, he was spotted by Netflix casting directors who were scouting for sci-fi series The Last Bus. "On the back of that I got a really good agent," he explained, which resulted in his part in Wednesday. "It was insane - all of a sudden you're flying to Romania for seven months to work with Tim Burton."I was like, where's this even come from?"Filming the first series aged 13, he was one of the youngest cast members."Everyone was at least five years older than me, but I was just hanging out with them all," he said. "So now we're just a group of friends who happen to work together." Eugene Ottinger is one of Nevermore Academy's quirkier students and president of the school's beekeeping club, which is where he first befriends Wednesday. "He's very fun to play," said Moosa."He's the juxtaposition to a lot of what else happens in the show: he's very cheery and bright compared to the dark sad themes and melancholy stuff going on."I think it's nice that onscreen he has a contrast to Wednesday, specifically, so it's really fun to play that with Jenna."Interest around both series has been "insane," he said, but returning to Leamington to hang out with friends "keeps me grounded in the very best way"."I still get the perfect amount of normality from my friends, despite all the craziness," he added. The show will be returning for a third season, Netflix has announced, but Moosa said he was still in the dark as to the future of his character. If filming coincides with his A Level exams, he said: "I'm sure it will work out regardless."His mother Rima said the GCSE exam clash "wasn't quite what we anticipated, but we rolled with it and Moosa managed it really well"."He's learned a lot about managing work-life balance, and I think he's hugely matured and learned these life skills at a much younger age than a lot of his peers would get a chance to," she said."That in itself has been really admirable, so we're really proud of him." The first four episodes of Wednesday's second season were released on 6 August, with the remaining four released on 3 September.
