Britain's 'best police dog' dies after years saving lives and capturing crooks in North Wales

A police dog who served in North Wales for years has died. PD Toro was a Dutch Herder who was part of the Cheshire and North Wales dog section.
Over his relatively short career he tracked down hundreds of suspects. He also helped to find missing people.
In 2022, Toro, then aged three, and his handler PC Chris McDonough were named the UK's top police dog team at the Thin Blue Paw Awards. This followed 20 arrests in a year.
They had also helped patrol the G7 summit in Cornwall in 2021 and made a name for themselves on the Channel 5 programme Motorway Cops.
Sadly, the Cheshire and North Wales Police Dogs, have announced that Toro had passed away in the last few days due to a number of medical issues.
They said: "It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of PD Toro. Toro had been dealing with a number of medical issues and sadly crossed the rainbow bridge today with his handler by his side.
"Toro was a formidable Police Dog. During his service he found hundreds of suspects and missing people and along with his handler, PC McDonough, was named the Crime Fighting Duo of 2022. He truly was one of a kind.
"Thank you for everything, Toro and rest in peace. You will be forever missed by us all especially your handler and family."
There were thousands of comments in response as people paid tribute to the police dog and expressed their sympathies to officers, particularly Toro's handler.
One person wrote: "Not all heroes wear capes, just collars."

Police officer who starred in Channel 5 series is banned from force over 'inappropriate, sexist, and racist' texts

A police officer who starred in a Channel 5 series has been banned from the force over 'inappropriate, sexist, and racist' texts. PC Andrew Doran, of Cheshire Police, featured on documentary TV programme Motorway Cops: Catching Britain's Speeders, which has been running since 2021. The roads policing officer received, sent and kept more than 20 of the shocking messages on his personal mobile between 2018 and 2015. This included a video which was a criminal offence to possess, as well as a clip he was sent 'depicting extreme pornography'. He did not delete, challenge or report any of the horrifying texts - and has not since provided any explanation for his behaviour. The ex-constable resigned in July ahead of his accelerated misconduct hearing this month, a special kind of fast-track proceedings. They are used in the police when there is 'incontrovertible' evidence of gross misconduct and it is in the public interest an officer is dismissed 'straight away'. PC Doran was found to have 'undoubtedly' committed this most serious of standards breaches and would have been dismissed without notice had he not already quit. The roads policing officer (pictured for Motorway Cops) received, sent and kept more than 20 of the shocking messages on his personal mobile between 2018 and 2015 It means he has been placed on the banned list and will never again work as a police officer. The programme description for Motorway Cops: Catching Britain's Speeders reads: 'Ride along with the officers risking their lives policing Britain's most dangerous roads.' PC Doran is featured prominently in the series, with several episode summaries focussing solely on his policing work. An episode description from series one, for example, simply reads: 'PC Andy Doran hunts for a suspected car thief on a housing estate.' Other policing work sees the officer pull a driver over for using his phone behind the wheel and respond to a collision after a driver fell asleep on the motorway. He is also variously seen on the show supporting those in a broken down car, chasing fleeing thieves after a shop robbery, and, bizarrely, pursuing a suspect in a tractor. The 'unprofessional messages and material' he had on his phone included 17 sexist images he sent and nine he received. On top of this, he sent three racist pictures and two discriminatory ones, also receiving 11 of the former and four of the latter. PC Doran also sent one 'improper or offensive' image and received three. Chief Constable Mark Roberts said at the disciplinary hearing the officer had 'shown a clear lack of integrity' and 'discriminatory views and behaviour which shows a lack of respect and courtesy towards others'. He added: 'You have behaved in such a manner as to discredit Cheshire Police, and the police service as a whole, thereby impacting public trust and confidence in policing.' The senior officer noted as particularly concerning the extreme pornographic material PC Doran was sent, on February 12, 2021. 'He failed to challenge or report this accordingly', he said, adding the former officer also did not delete it from his phone. CC Roberts continued: 'No explanation for his behaviour has been provided, in particular as to why he did not challenge or report the messages received, no doubt because there is no explanation or excuse for this behaviour. 'The messages were offensive, improper and discriminatory and are therefore totally unacceptable in policing and in Cheshire Police. 'I therefore stress that the force will not tolerate such conduct from any serving police officer, nor any staff member. 'The only appropriate disciplinary outcome in this case is dismissal without notice, had the former officer not previously resigned. 'A lesser sanction than dismissal would not serve to uphold the high standards and deter such conduct in the future.' The first four series of Motorway Cops - half the show's entire run to date - focus on Cheshire Police, with Northumbria Police taking over for seasons five to seven. The force is then replaced by Humberside Police for the latest instalment, series eight. Cheshire Police and Channel 5 have been contacted for comment.

Royal Family 'living in fear' of 'what could come out' over Prince Andrew

More info Channel 5 broadcast the documentary Andrew and Fergie: The Duke and Duchess of Excess, which followed the launch of Andrew Lownie's bombshell new book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York. The programme examined the pair's extravagant spending, murky financial arrangements, and dubious associations, including Andrew's links with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew Lownie, who appeared in the documentary, branded the duo "greedy" and revealed that despite attempting to locate someone willing to speak positively about Andrew, 99% refused to do so. This follows reports that Prince Harry will 'never be forgiven' by two senior royals despite hopes of reconciliation. Making additional explosive allegations, Andrew Lownie claims that compromising footage featuring Prince Andrew may have been acquired and shared with foreign spy agencies, reports the Mirror. "I think one of the most worrying things I discovered was the amount of kompromat there must be on Andrew. We know that Jeffrey Epstein had filmed people in his home," Lownie stated in the Channel 5 documentary. Prior to his death, it was claimed Epstein had sold portions of this intelligence to Mossad, Libyan security services, and potentially the Russians. "There is material from my sources talking about kompromat in China, in Libya, in the Middle East, and elsewhere. So I mean, there must be an awful lot of sex tapes running around, and I'm just amazed that they haven't hit the internet," Lownie claimed. The assertion has been made previously, but there's no public evidence that such tapes exist, and Prince Andrew has remained silent on the matter. "Who knows what could come out?" journalist Richard Eden pondered. "I think the Royal Family still lives in fear, frankly, of what could come out." In 2019, amidst the uproar over his friendship with Epstein following his Newsnight interview, Andrew withdrew from public duties and ceased using His Royal Highness. Despite no longer being a working royal, he has attended family events. Earlier this year, he joined the King and several other senior royals for their traditional Easter Sunday service at St George's Chapel in Windsor. Earlier this week, news resurfaced about Andrew's "lifelong teddy bear obsession" following the release of an explosive new biography. In 2022, a peculiar story emerged about the embattled prince's alleged collection of 50 to 60 teddy bears. A former Royal officer even claimed that Andrew would "scream and shout" if his staff didn't carry out a specific task involving the toys. Former protection officer Paul Page alleged in the ITV documentary 'Ghislaine, Prince Andrew and the Paedophile' that the Duke would become enraged if his servants didn't arrange them in a certain way at Buckingham Palace.
