Kaizer Chiefs coach spotted scouting goal machine in Egypt
Kaizer Chiefs are aggressively pursuing top-tier talent in their bid to dominate both local and continental competitions next season. Head coach Nasreddine Nabi is taking the lead, personally jetting across Africa to identify game-changing players for the club.
Following a recent scouting mission in Tanzania, where Chiefs are believed to be finalising a deal for Feisal Salum of Azam FC, Nabi continued his talent hunt in North Africa. A source with intimate knowledge of the club's movements have revealed that the coach was in Egypt during the CAF Champions League final, with one clear objective.
'The coach is looking at the players who he believes can help the team next season. Not just in the local competitions but in Africa as well. You know they were in Tanzania where they are set to sign Feisal Salum from Azam FC. And the main reason of going to Egypt was to find out what's happening with Fiston Mayele. You know he knows he is from DRC, then Yanga SC and him believe he can help Chiefs in playing in Africa. That was his mission in Egypt,' said the source.
Fiston Mayele has been on Kaizer Chiefs' radar for over three seasons. At one point, the club had the opportunity to sign him on a free transfer. But unfortunately failed to finalise the deal. The prolific striker eventually joined Egypt's Pyramids FC. Where his value has soared thanks to consistent performances and a sharp eye for goal.
Now, with Nabi pushing for serious reinforcements, the Chiefs' hierarchy may reconsider the hefty price tag.
The 30-year-old Congolese international delivered an impressive 18 goals and two assists across all competitions this season.
Is Mayele the kind of forward that Kaizer Chiefs need?

'I advised Chiefs to sign Mayele but Bobby ignored me'
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Kanga Nzenza says he once advised Amakhosi to sign Congolese top striker Fiston Mayele, but his plea was left unheard. Mayele is one of the hottest strikers on the African continent, having helped Pyramids win the CAF Champions League this past weekend. The 30-year-old finished the competition as the top goalscorer, having scored in the semi-final and final. Since last year, Kaizer Chiefs have been linked to Mayele, but no formal bid has been made by the Soweto giants. Nzenza mentioned that he spoke with Amakhosi boss Bobby Motaung about the striker. 'I once advised Chiefs to acquire Mayele,' Nzenza told KickOff. 'Just look at what he is doing now. I was clear that Chiefs needed to sign him because he has the ability to do well here. He can blend well with the Chiefs players and has been performing well, even though he may not be in top form at the moment. 'I even mentioned to that I was struggling to reach Bobby Motaung about Mayele because he is always busy. My plea was that Chiefs must sign him. They received my message, but they didn't act on it,' added the retired footballer. 'At the time, he was playing for Yanga in Tanzania, but then a club from Egypt signed him. He's an exceptional player. Whenever he comes to play for the national team, they refer to him as a super sub. 'Whenever he comes on, he changes the game. Look at how Sundowns lost the [Caf] Champions League because of him.' Given how much Mayele earns at Pyramids, Kaizer Chiefs are unlikely to afford his wages. The striker is set to leave the Egyptian club at the end of the season, according to reports.
