Work begins on Williams road median
Since the dim-lit road stretch is regarded as an unsafe road, the local body will relocate street lights presently available only on one end to the median.
Williams Road which interlinks Central bus terminus and Bharathidasan road, often reels under traffic congestion during peak hours as it is dotted by govt offices, schools, retail showrooms and commercial complexes,. Though the road is 50 feet wide, speeding vehicles compromise safety and cause bottlenecks since there is no median.
As demands were raised at the district road safety council, Trichy corporation sanctioned Rs15 lakh to build a median in a phased manner.
Presently, work has been launched to develop a median between Seva Sangam school and Sona Mina multiplex, for about 200- metres. It will be extended between TNSTC's depot and Muneeswarar temple. "We will get an opinion from the Trichy city traffic police to further extend the median.
Road's width near the Income Tax office complex and Femina hotel is narrow, so developing a median there may escalate traffic congestion," a corporation official told TOI.
While some stretches of Williams road are 50 feet wide and spacious, some portions are 40 feet wide. Using Namakku Naame scheme, the corporation will beautify the median with greenery and erect additional LED streetlights. Once the median is built, Trichy corporation said the police must regulate cars and two-wheelers visiting commercial complexes from being parked on the carriageway and blocking vehicular movement.

Electric vehicle giant Tesla has leased a 33,000-square-foot space in a commercial building in Gurugram, Haryana, which is expected to serve as a service centre and sales outlet, according to real estate data analytics firm CRE Matrix. CRE Matrix reviewed the registration documents related to the leasing transaction to confirm the development. The Elon Musk-led company has registered a 9-year lease for the unit in Gurugram's Orchid Business Park. Tesla's First Showroom In Mumbai Tesla, which has already opened a showroom in Mumbai and is set to follow up with a second one in New Delhi soon, will be paying a starting rent of Rs 40 lakh for the Gurugram property, it said. There is a clause in the agreement under which the rent will escalate by 4.75 per cent per annum. The chargeable area is 33,475 sq ft, while the super-built up area of the property is 50,914 sq ft, it said, adding that there is a 3-year lock-in. The space can be used as a 'service centre, delivery centre and retail store', the property consultant said. Tesla Property Lease The property has been leased from Garwal Property, and the lease was registered on July 28, as per the statement. The lease commencement date is set as July 15, and the rental starts immediately, it said. Tesla made its India retail debut last month with a store in the Bandra Kurla Complex business district in suburban Mumbai. The company is selling the China-made 'Model Y' with a price tag of nearly Rs 60 lakh after accounting for the high import duties. (With Inputs From PTI)

With BYD in fast lane, Tesla's Europe sales in July decline over 50% YoY
Tesla continues to post steep sales declines in Europe's biggest electric vehicle (EV) markets, where the Elon Musk-led automaker is ceding significant share to China's BYD. In both Germany and the UK—by far the two leading countries for battery-electric vehicle registrations in Europe—Tesla's July sales fell by more than half compared with a year ago, according to figures reported Tuesday. BYD, by contrast, more than quadrupled registrations in each country. Last week, the national auto association for France—the No 3 market in Europe by EV sales—reported that Tesla's registrations dropped 27 per cent in July and were down almost 40 per cent through the first seven months of the year. Tesla pinned the blame for its early-year sales weakness on manufacturing disruptions linked to changing over production lines for its most important vehicle, the Model Y. But the company's slump has carried on even as it's ramped up output of the redesigned SUV, adding to concerns that its chief executive officer's polarizing and often politically charged persona have damaged Tesla's brand. On Monday, the company announced that it had approved an interim award of about $30 billion worth of Tesla stock to Musk as a legal fight over his 2018 pay package drags on. Tesla's struggles have created an opening for leading European manufacturers, as well as BYD. The Chinese automaker sold more fully electric cars in Europe than Tesla for the first time ever in April. Some analysts are predicting BYD will pull ahead of Tesla globally for the full year — and that's without BYDs even being available in Tesla's home market, the US. In Germany—Europe's biggest auto market and the home of Tesla's sole assembly plant in the region— BYD outsold Tesla for the third time this year in July.

Porsche Macan With Design Package Launched In India At Rs 96.05 Lakh
Porsche has launched the Macan petrol in a new limited-run special edition, which is called the Macan with Design Package. This special iteration brings several accessories that set it apart from the standard SUV. Based on the brand's announcement, the first 30 Macan buyers can have the Design Package at the cost of the standard version of the SUV, i.e., at Rs 96.05 lakh. The existing owners who wish their SUV to undergo the treatment can have it for Rs 7.5 lakh. Getting into the details, the exterior updates in the SUV can be seen in the form of the LED puddle lamps, a new sportier exhaust pipe, coloured hub caps for the alloy wheels, and tinted LED tail-lights. The brand is also offering front and rear aprons and side skirts finished in the body colour, along with blacked-out outside rear view mirrors. Similarly, the cabin of the SUV features a black gear knob and the Carbon Interior Package, which brings a carbon finish for the dashboard and the doors. Also Read: Mechanically, the Porsche Macan with the Design Package is the same as the standard version of the SUV. It features the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, tuned to produce 265 hp of power and 400 Nm of torque at its peak performance. The power can be used to launch the SUV from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.4 seconds. This time is reduced to 6.2 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package. The Porsche Macan is one of the prominent premium SUVs sold in the Indian market. It competes against rivals like the BMW X3, priced at Rs 75.8 Lakh, the Audi Q5, with a price tag of Rs 68 lakh, the Mercedes-Benz GLC, priced at Rs 78.3 lakh, and the Volvo XC60 facelift, priced at Rs 71.90 lakh.
