Adam Schefter provides troubling update on Steelers, T.J Watt contract talks

USA Today11-07-2025
The Steelers' T.J. Watt contract dilemma doesn't look like it'll be resolved any time soon — as insider Adam Schefter has provided a troubling update on the situation.
On the July 8 edition of ESPN's Unsportsmanlike, Schefter revealed that Watt and the Steelers are still far apart in contract talks — as outside trade interest continues to rise:
'They're far apart right now, and there have been other teams that have mulled the idea that maybe they would approach the Pittsburgh Steelers about a trade,' Schefter said. 'Now, the Steelers have zero intention of trading him — but something has to give. You can't have it both ways. You can't say, 'We want to keep this guy that badly' and then be far apart in the contract."
Schefter previously reported that interest in trading for Watt was expected to grow after the Steelers' recent acquisitions of two high-priced players — All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey and Pro Bowl TE Jonnu Smith.
Watt and the Steelers have been down this road before, as the infamous 2021 hold-in saw their star defender sit out of practices until he received a new contract — just days before the regular season began.
Here's to hoping the Steelers figure out a way to re-sign Watt soon, instead of fans waiting on the edge of their seats for another last-minute deal.

Brewers Star Says Team Has 'Bigger Goals' Amid Winning Streak

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Milwaukee Brewers have marched up the standings and entered Tuesday with the best record in Major League Baseball, riding their second 10-game winning streak of the season. As they look to continue to build their substantial lead in the National League Central, Christian Yelich told ESPN, "It's all great, but we have bigger goals than winning 74 games or whatever it is." The Brewers are one of five MLB teams to never win the World Series, and they are setting out on a quest to remove their name from that list this season. With the best odds, according to Baseball Reference, to win the World Series this season at 22 percent, the Brewers are looking to continue their hot streak for the remainder of the season. MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN - AUGUST 11: Christian Yelich #22 of the Milwaukee Brewers celebrates in the dugout after hitting a solo home run against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the third inning at American Family Field on August 11, 2025 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. MoreThe goal of every team at the start of the season is simple: win the World Series. While many teams will fall short of that goal, the Brewers have their eyes set on getting to the postseason and playing their best baseball when they get there. "It's hard to win just one game in the major leagues," Yelich told ESPN. "We've done it just by being present, focusing on the current day and not thinking about previous days or what we have ahead of us." This mentality in the Brewers clubhouse is pushing them toward their goal, celebrating their wins when they get them, but refocusing the next day. The mental side of baseball is a major player at the big league level, and keeping a cool head through the season has allowed Milwaukee to claim the best record in baseball. Najee Harris returns to running, doing drills with a football after eye injury

Chargers running back Najee Harris isn't back to practice, but he took another step in his return from an eye injury. On Tuesday, Harris ran and participated in drills with a football off to the side with an athletic trainer, Kris Rhim of ESPN reports. Harris, who was injured in a July 4 fireworks accident, landed on the non-football injury list before training camp. Since Aug. 2 — and before Tuesday — he had only walked laps with a helmet while wearing a weighted vest. Harris' agent, Doug Hendrickson, said Harris has a 'superficial eye injury' and expects the one-time Pro Bowler to be ready for the season. Coach Jim Harbaugh has been noncommittal about Harris' availability for Week 1. Harris posted a photo on social media last week that showed his left eye completely shut, but Harbaugh said Harris can open his eye. The Chargers drafted Omarion Hampton and will have another running back splitting time with the rookie, whether that's Harris or another back. Kimani Vidal, Raheim Sanders, Hassan Haskins and Nyheim Miller-Hines are the backs competing for the job. 'Don't have to make that decision right now,' Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman said. 'Just keep working, keep evaluating, keep trying to get better, see how it all fits together when the decision needs to be made.'

Will Tyreek Hill be a fantasy bust again?

Yahoo Fantasy's Matt Harmon and contributor Ray Garvin debate the potential for the 8-time Pro Bowl receiver to bounce back in Miami. Hear the full conversation on the 'Yahoo Fantasy Forecast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript I'm, and he may be the riskiest of them all, but Tyreek Hill, right there in Miami, and I know he is a controversial player to talk about right now. There's all kinds of early speculation and people talking, he could be on the move, but we, we're, we're one year removed from Tyreek Hill being voted on by his peers as the number one overall player in the NFL, a player that we thought could push for 2000 yards in a season. He had 1799 in that year. And let's just be honest, the entire Miami Dolphins offense last year outside of Devon H getting targeted like crazy and John Smith, who was no longer there, underperformed in 2024. For Tyreek Hill, he had his lowest fantasy output since his rookie season in Kansas City last year for Miami. I'm not worried about anybody else in this offense. If he is out there and Tua Tangavaloa is healthy. This is a player who is absolutely capable of not just exceeding his draft capital right now in the 3rd round, but being a true guy that's finished is, one of those upper echelon receivers. He can still do it. It's risky as hell. I'm not telling anybody it's guaranteed to happen, but if there's a guy in there that can do it and is probably going to get the opportunity to do it, if he's on Miami, it's scary, but Tyreek Hill could do it, man. God, he's like the guy I want to take the least in this range because I, I, but talk about it. What, why, why not talk, talk about it. Talk about it, Matt. Talk about it. So Tyreek Hill definitely started to decline last year on an individual standpoint. Now I know there was the wrist stuff, immediately you get the response. Well, hey, uh, maybe he just wasn't all the way locked in. Uh, I don't love that as an excuse ever for, for any player, by the way. Like, who's to say he's fully locked in this year? You know, he's, he's kind of beefing with the quarterback. He's talking about who should be in at the goal line. Mike McDaniel puts Jalen Wright in at the goal line in the, in the damn preseason game, immediately stuffed. He's like, see you, Tyree, uh, I know what I'm talking about here. Anyways, don't love that part of it. That's like sort of the more intangible thing, but I also, one thing I am confident in saying, usually once a guy starts to decline, he's in his 30s like that, the next thing isn't right back up to elite form.
