Boygenius' Lucy Dacus confirms Taylor Swift song lyric name drop is her: 'She actually texted me'

Yahoo29-03-2025
Well that's one Tortured Poets Department mystery solved.
Musician Lucy Dacus is coming clean about that "Lucy" namedrop in the title track of Taylor Swift's 11th studio album, revealing what many fans — including us here at Entertainment Weekly — assumed, namely, that it's Dacus that Swift is referring to.
For those unfamiliar with the tune, Swift sings, "Sometimes, I wonder if you're gonna screw this up with me / But you told Lucy you'd kill yourself if I ever leave / And I had said that to Jack about you, so I felt seen / Everyone we know understands why it's meant to be / 'Cause we're crazy."
When asked about the mention in an interview with PEOPLE, Dacus said, "I think it's fair game to say 'yes.' [Swift] actually texted me and asked for my approval."
Dacus, a member of the indie rock group Boygenius (which also consists of singer-songwriters Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers), just released a new album — her fourth solo record, Forever Is a Feeling, via Geffen Records on Friday. To PEOPLE, she also revealed her reaction to the The Tortured Poets Department when she first heard it.

"Well, I pushed play on the album just like, 'Oh, this is so crazy,'" Dacus recalled. "This is the first Taylor record to come out since meeting her, and listening to a friend's record feels so much different than a stranger's record."
She continued: "So I was like, 'This is really weird. This voice that I've heard basically what feels like my whole waking life saying my name.'"
"It was definitely an experience," said Dacus. "I sat down and I was like, 'Huh. Wow.' But I think that that record of hers is super open-hearted, and I don't know how many people at her level, if anyone is at her level, are writing from the heart that openly."
Swift traditionally remains mum on who her songs are about, but in addition to Dacus, it seems that frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff and ex Matty Healy get mentions on "Tortured Poets," as do fellow musicians Charlie Puth, Dylan Thomas, and Patti Smith.

Forever Is a Feeling's release comes replete with a special performance video for new single "Bullseye," featuring Hozier. The album's debut single, 'Ankles,' was launched with a performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in January.
Dacus will also embark on the Forever Is A Feeling Tour beginning in Philadelphia on April 16. The tour, her largest to date, includes Radio City Music Hall in New York, two nights at The Greek Theater in Los Angeles, and a night at Red Rocks in Denver before heading to the UK and Europe in June.

Taylor Swift Launches a New Countdown for Mystery 2 P.M. ET Announcement

THE RUNDOWN Less than one week after revealing the cover art, tracklist, and release date for her upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl, Taylor Swift has another announcement coming at 2 P.M. ET today. Swift put fans on alert this morning when she started a new countdown on her site. Thankfully, the wait won't be long: While it's unclear what news she'll share, there are several possibilities: Swift could reveal that she will perform at the 2026 Super Bowl or 2025 MTV VMAs. She could also announce her album's first single and release date or drop new merch for her The Life of a Showgirl era. The URL for her site auto-directs to so make what you will of that. Fans noticed that Swift's Apple Music page is now glittering in purple ahead of the announcement, with some Swifties theorizing her first single will be 'Actually Romantic.' If she announces a new single today, the Monday timing would give her fans ample time to prepare for a midnight drop on Friday, 12 A.M. ET, which is when most new music is released. Over the weekend, fans speculated that the star hinted at a 2026 Super Bowl halftime show performance during her New Heights appearance. Swift spoke about her love of numerology during the show, and fans linked her comment about having thoughts of sourdough '60 percent of the time' to next year's Super Bowl since it is the NFL's 60th ever. The game will also take place in Levi's Stadium, home to the San Francisco 49ers whose mascot is notably Sourdough Sam. During the interview, the singer explained her Easter egg methodology: 'The art of the Easter egg is that there's do's and don'ts, right? I'm never going to plant an Easter egg that ties back to my personal life. It's always going to be towards music or a musical.' 'Something I'm coming up with, something I have coming up, a plan I have coming together,' she continued. 'Something that you don't know I'm saying for a specific reason that you'll hear later and you'll go back and be like, 'Oh my god.' I think my favorite one of those was I was given an honorary doctorate from NYU, and I made the commencement speech. And I put so many lyrical Easter eggs in that speech that when the Midnights album came out after that, the fans were like, 'The whole speech was an Easter egg.' And for me, that's really fun because they find it fun.'

Sophie Turner Ended Celeb's Engagement: Theories

Turns out, a wave from Sophie Turner wields a lot of power. On a recent appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Sophie and Seth reminisced on how they first met at a Comic-Con afterparty in 2014, during Sophie's Game of Thrones days. However, Sophie said of the evening, "That night was actually quite crazy for me. It went really south really quickly". She continued, "We were going to have a great night. I really can't name names or I'll get in a lot of trouble, but I brought my best friend from my school days with me and she saw this actor that she loved. And she obviously just goes to me, 'Can you say hi?'" "I didn't know this actor," Sophie continued, noting that she simply gave him a wave from across the room. "That was it." 'Later on, I see this girl looking at me and she's a famous actress. I was like, 'Oh, I have to go and tell her how much she means to me.'" "So, I dance on over and she goes, 'Can you stop fucking flirting with my fiancé?'" Sophie recalled. "I was like, 'Who's your fiancé?' She points at the guy I'd waved at. I went, 'I have no idea who this man is.'" "Turns out, I think they broke their engagement off that night. Because of my [wave]. I didn't realize I held this power," she added. When Seth pointed out that most people intentionally trying to break up a couple likely wouldn't then "dance" over to the gal in question, Sophie replied, "I think she thought I was rubbing it in." So, who is the couple in question? It looks like the party Sophie is referring to is Entertainment Weekly's Annual Comic Con Celebration, which she also attended with Maisie Williams. As some on Reddit have pointed out, Emma Roberts was also in attendance that night. At the time, she was on-and-off-again with her American Horror Story costar Evan Peters, who seemingly attended the party but didn't walk the red carpet. And Emma was then photographed after said party, crying and being consoled by friends — though it's not clear exactly what went down. A split in their engagement was reported in the summer of the following year, though they were seemingly back together a few months later. What do you make of the speculation? LMK in the comments!
