Filmmaker Umesh Shukla, known for helming comedy dramas such as OMG-Oh My god and 102 Not Out, shares that he understands the fine difference between faith and blind belief. The director, who collaborated with superstars like Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor, recently revealed that he used to be a priest and performed pooja at different houses. Director Umesh Shukla reveals he was a priest
While talking to IANS, Shukla said, 'I come from such a Brahmin family, that till the time I graduated, I used to go to people's houses, and perform Satyanarayan pooja, Lakshmi pooja, Nishadiya and other poojas. I used to get it done, myself, as a Brahmin. I used to go, in a dhoti and kurta, and get it done. So, our ritual was there. And with regards to that, I used to ask a lot of questions to my father, and my grandfather, and in that, I used to see loopholes. So, that came in handy, while I was working on the script of OMG – Oh My God.'
He further added, 'He further shared, 'The humour and satire in the film came out very well. And definitely, working with Paresh bhai, Akshay ji, Om Puri, Mithun ji, such towering personalities. Everyone was such a strong artist, with great chemistry. Telling them that such things used to happen with me, in my childhood, and now, you have to bring it up, on screen. So, those interactions were very amazing. It was a lot of fun.' Umesh Shukla's upcoming project
Umesh Shukla is now gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Heer Express . Slated to release on August 8, the family drama stars Divita Juneja, Prit Kamani, Ashutosh Rana, and Gulshan Grover in prominent roles.
Umesh Shukla's previous release Aankh Micholi , starring Sharman Joshi, Paresh Rawal, Mrunal Thakur and Abhimanyu Dassani, was a box office flop, earning just Rs 1.50 crore against the hefty budget of Rs 80 crore.

Mahavatar Narasimha Box Office: Tops 150cr in India with 4th Biggest Third Saturday ever

Mahavatar Narasimha delivered a sensational third Saturday at the Indian box office, collecting Rs. 21.50 crore approx. This stands as the fourth-highest third Saturday ever in India, trailing the two biggest grossers of the country: Baahubali 2 (Rs. 35.50 crore) & Pushpa 2 (Rs. 27.50 crore), along with Chhaava (Rs. 26.50 crore). The total gross of the film stands at Rs. 152 crore approx, and in doing so, it also became the first animated film to gross over Rs. 150 crore. Being an animated film, the film caters to family audiences, leading to it playing stronger on weekends. Yesterday, being a holiday for Raksha Bandhan, which is a big day for family outings, gave it a further boost. The film nearly tripled its Friday earnings, with the Hindi version soaring to more than three times, a surge rarely witnessed for Indian films. At the end of its second week, Mahavatar Narasimha looked like it would touch the Rs. 200 crore mark, provided it held well in the fourth week amid Independence Day biggies, Coolie and War 2. Cut to today, the film will cruise past the double-century mark and is now aiming for more. The coming weekend will be a scheduling headache for programmers. Given the current momentum of this film, cutting back shows will not be an easy call. The Day Wise Box Office Collections of Mahavatar Narasimha in India are as follows: Globally, animation is one of the most bankable genres, delivering some of the highest-grossing films of all time. Just this year, Chinese animation Ne Zha 2 obliterated box office records in the country, grossing over USD 2 billion. In several countries, animation is the most popular genre for movie-going. However, in India, it has very few takers. The genre is often looked down on as 'kids cinema', and in India, kids don't drive the box office. The religious animation does have some appeal, but except for Punjabi film Chaar Sahibzade, nothing has found the success, that is, until now. Mahavatar Narasimha is the first in the announced cinematic universe of seven films. The hope is that this film and franchise will break the stigma and unlock the massive potential of animation that has already delivered blockbusters worldwide. NOTE: The aforementioned box office numbers do not include 3D charges. Including 3D charges, Mahavatar Narasimha has grossed Rs. 168 crore approx in India.

Coolie box office: Rajinikanth's action thriller beats Thalapathy Vijay's Leo to become…, earns Rs… Rajinikanth's upcoming action thriller film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is creating massive buzz at the box office even prior its release. Featuring a stellar cast that includes Nagarjuna, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and a cameo appearance by Aamir Khan, the film has generated huge anticipation. While bookings for the film are already underway, reports now suggest that it has earned Rs 250 crore. How? Let's find out! Rajinikanth's Coolie beats Vijay's Leo According to reports by Pinkvilla, Coolie made on a hefty budget of Rs 375 crore, has already raked in close to Rs 250 crore through the sale of its international, satellite, music and digital rights. Reportedly, the film's international rights have already been sold for Rs 68 crore. Interestingly, Coolie that has earned Rs 30 crore from its International advance bookings has become the biggest opener for a Tamil film in the overseas markets, according to a report by Sacnilk. Well, The Rajinikanth starrer has surpassed Thalapathy Vijay's Leo, which had earned Rs 66 crore from international territories in 2023. Coolie to have morning shows? According to a report by India Today, Coolie will have early morning shows in Kerala and Karnataka, starting at 6 am. However, in Tamil Nadu, fans will have to wait until 9 am for the first show to be out. This decision comes after the state government cancelled all early morning screenings following the tragic loss of a fan during the first show of Thunivu in 2023. Reportedly, several theatres across Tamil Nadu have put up disclaimers, revealing that only 18 and above people will be allowed to watch Coolie in theatres. Trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai wrote on X, 'Even before booking in TN starts for #Coolie, multiplexe majors PVR INOX and AGS Cinemas have announced that the film is (A) certified and those below 18 will not be allowed! Age proof at the entrance in case if the ushers have any doubt!.' As August 14 approaches, Coolie could possibly mark the highest day-one earnings of Rajinikanth's prolific career.
