Grand Forks police arrest driver after pursuit through Lincoln Park that later ended near downtown
The incident started at approximately 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, when an officer observed a vehicle driving eastbound on DeMers Avenue at a dangerously high rate of speed, according to a report sent to the media by the Grand Forks Police Department.
When the officer activated his lights and siren and tried to catch up to the vehicle, the 2003 Chevy Silverado passed through the intersection of DeMers and Washington Street. It eventually went through residential neighborhoods and into Lincoln Park.
After the chase went north on Cherry Street, police were able to use a maneuver to stop the fleeing vehicle in the 400 block of First Avenue South.
According to the GFPD report, "officers then performed a high-risk traffic stop on the individuals inside the vehicle and detained three subjects."
The driver, Martin Romo, 22, of North Carolina, was arrested and charged with reckless driving, reckless endangerment, fleeing in a motor vehicle and attempted assault on a law enforcement officer. The passengers were released without charges.
There were no injuries.

While it's easy to avoid these malicious texts if you know to beware a particular lure. Unpaid tolls and DMV offenses have generated a tidal wave of publicity, and most Americans will have seen at least some of this by now. But these lures can be easily changed. The one thing that doesn't change, though, is the use of a malicious link. Sometimes that's enough to raise a red flag. While there are clever ruses, where attackers design URLs that use dashes to form a '[.TEXT]-COM' which might trick a cursory glance into thinking it's a genuine .COM address. But usually it's much easier to quickly detect the issue and determine the text is a malicious fake (1,2,3). In the most recent 'Ranking of TLDs by Phishing Domains,' from May through July this year, the top level domain (TLD) that stands out more than any other is .XIN. And URLs under that TLD are a driving force behind many of these attacks. It's not the most popular TLD, but it's the one that's almost guaranteed to be a scam. Every single time. Almost 22,000 of the near 50,000 .XIN top level domains are 'phishing domains.' That compares to just 35,000/1,350,000 for .VIP or 115,000/4,500,000 for .TOP, two other phishers' favorites. Nothing comes close to .XIN when it comes to its relative threat. That's why this TLD tops the phishing domain score with 4421 versus 16 for .COM. .XIN is a Chinese domain operated out of Hong Kong. The word means 'new' and claims to be aimed at Chinese tech innovators. Instead it's the most obviously and openly dangerous TLD in the world. If you see .XIN in any link in an email, social media post or especially a text, delete the message right away — certainly never click it. 'For many of us,' Proofpoint says, 'our smartphone contains the keys to both our personal and professional lives. Unsurprisingly, cybercriminals have recognized this is a two-for-one opportunity and increased their targeting of mobile devices. When it comes to attacking users across multiple devices, URL-based threats are the perfect tool.'

Police are searching for multiple shooters who killed three people and wounded eight others in a shooting stemming from a dispute at a crowded Brooklyn lounge overnight. Multiple 911 calls came in around 3:30 a.m. reporting shots fired at Taste of the City in Brooklyn's Crown Heights neighborhood, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said in a news conference early Sunday morning. Officers arrived on scene minutes later and found 11 gunshot victims inside the lounge. Three victims, a 27-year-old man, a 35-year-old man and a male victim whose age is unknown, were pronounced dead, Tisch said. The victims, eight males and three females, range in age from 27 to 61, she said. The remaining victims were taken to area hospitals, Tisch said. Their conditions were unknown early Sunday morning, police told CNN. Detectives found at least 36 shell casings at the scene, Tisch said, along with a firearm in the vicinity – they are working to determine whether it was connected to the shooting. Police believe multiple shooters were involved in the incident, which stemmed from a dispute inside the club, and no suspects are in custody as of Sunday morning. Taste of the City says it offers food, cocktails, hookah and entertainment for the Crown Heights community. Tisch called the incident 'an anomaly,' citing 'the lowest number of shooting incidents and shooting victims seven months into the year that we've seen on record in the city of New York.' Still, the incident comes on the heels of multiple shootings this summer, including a shooting earlier this month in the city's famed Times Square that left three people injured and the high-profile shooting in a Manhattan skyscraper that killed four people in July. There have been 272 mass shootings in the United States this year alone, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive, which like CNN, defines a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more people are injured, excluding the shooter.
