Mariners Reportedly Acquire Diamondbacks Slugger Eugenio Suárez
Suarez was viewed as one of the more sure bets to get dealt ahead of the July 31 trade deadline.
Suárez is batting .247 with 36 home runs, 87 RBIs (tied for the most in MLB) and an OPS of .898. The Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers, and Philadelphia Phillies reportedly all expressed interest in the 34-year-old.
The Diamondbacks currently have the second-worst record in the NL West at 51-58 and are 12.5 games back of the No. 1 seed Los Angeles Dodgers.

MLB trade deadline: Rangers acquire pitcher Merrill Kelly from Diamondbacks, who continue sell-off
The Arizona Diamondbacks' sell-off continues with starting pitcher Merrill Kelly being traded to the Texas Rangers, ESPN's Jeff Passan reports. Kelly, who turns 37 on Oct. 14, provides another reliable arm to add to the Rangers' veteran starting rotation, joining Jacob deGrom, Patrick Corbin and Nathan Eovaldi. He's been the D-backs' most consistent starter this season, compiling a 3.22 ERA over 22 starts with 121 strikeouts in 128 2/3 innings. The Rangers' starting pitchers have the best ERA in MLB at 3.16, led by deGrom (10-3, 2.55 ERA) throwing like the ace who won NL Rookie of the Year and two Cy Young Awards with the New York Mets. Corbin (3.78 ERA) has experienced a career resurgence after struggling for the past five seasons with the Washington Nationals. And Eovaldi (9-3, 1.49 ERA) has been one of the best starters in baseball during the past six seasons. Texas (57-52) is a postseason contender, tied with the Seattle Mariners for second place in the AL West, five games behind the Houston Astros. The Rangers and Mariners are also tied for the AL's third wild-card playoff berth, 2.5 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians and three ahead of the Kansas City Royals and Tampa Bay Rays. Kelly was a late bloomer as an MLB pitcher, an eighth-round pick by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2010 after being drafted in each of the previous two years by the Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Guardians, respectively, but not signing. He played nine years in the minors before making his major-league debut with the D-backs in 2019. During his seven-year MLB career, Kelly has a 3.74 ERA and 62-50 record, averaging 8.2 strikeouts and 2.7 walks per nine innings. He's two seasons removed from his best year, when he registered a 3.29 ERA and 12-8 record in 30 starts, adding 187 strikeouts in 177 2/3 innings. Kelly is the fourth regular to be dealt away by Arizona leading up to the MLB trade deadline. First baseman Josh Naylor began the D-backs' trade season by going to the Seattle Mariners. That was followed by outfielder Randal Grichuk being traded to the Kansas City Royals and third baseman Eugenio Suárez also going to Seattle in a separate deal.

Updated odds for ex-LSU baseball star Paul Skenes to win National League Cy Young Award
With two months left in the MLB regular season, Paul Skenes' odds to win the National League Cy Young award continue to surge. The Pittsburgh Pirates' right-handed pitcher has the best odds at -200, per BetMGM, to take home the annual award given to the best pitcher in each of MLB's two leagues. Skenes' odds opened at +400 at the beginning of the season. The former LSU hurler started for the National League in the All-Star game for the second-straight season. Skenes won the league's rookie of the year award in 2024 and remains one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. Skenes has yet to surrender a run since the All-Star break, pitching 12 scoreless frames with 15 strikeouts over his last two starts. He's allowed three or more runs in a contest just three times in 2025. Skenes' 1.83 ERA and 0.90 WHIP rank first and second, respectively, in the National League. Through 133 innings, he has 146 strikeouts.

Mets find a center fielder in trade with Orioles for Cedric Mullins
NEW YORK (AP) — Turning their attention to offense, the New York Mets acquired center fielder Cedric Mullins from the Baltimore Orioles for three minor league pitchers before the Major League Baseball trade deadline Thursday. The last-place Orioles received right-handers Raimon Gómez, Anthony Nunez and Chandler Marsh. The speedy Mullins gives the Mets an all-around upgrade in center, where Tyrone Taylor was playing terrific defense but providing little offense. Versatile veteran Jeff McNeil has also been getting starts in center because of his bat, but he has much more experience at second base and the corner outfield spots. The 30-year-old Mullins, an All-Star in 2021, can become a free agent this fall. He's batting .229 with 15 homers, 49 RBIs, 14 stolen bases and a .738 OPS in 91 games this season — but his numbers have picked up dramatically of late. The left-handed hitter batted .290 with three homers, seven doubles and an .868 OPS in July. It was the second trade in seven days between the Orioles and Mets, who obtained left-handed reliever Gregory Soto from Baltimore for a pair of minor league pitchers last Friday. New York went all-in on a bullpen makeover Wednesday, landing All-Star reliever Ryan Helsley from St. Louis and right-hander Tyler Rogers from San Francisco in separate deals that cost the Mets six players. Helsley and Rogers also are eligible for free agency after this season.
