GRS to Sabah PKR: Look at own mirror

By: Amir Anuar Text Size: Nizam (left) was responding to Mustapha (right), who recently said PKR would reconsider its cooperation with GRS in the state election. TAWAU: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) will continue prioritising the Sabahan development agenda despite recent legal issues involving several political figures in the state, said its Information Chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan. Nizam, who is also Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister and Apas Assemblyman, said GRS, particularly Gagasan Rakyat, had been monitoring the situation and is prepared for any developments ahead of the coming state election. 'These issues appear to be driven by certain political interests and will not derail our coalition's focus on delivering what has been promised to the people of Sabah,' he said. 'We must remember that no one is guilty until proven so in court. We have confidence in the justice system and believe all individuals should be treated fairly under the law,' he added. He told reporters after officiating the Durian Crop Technology Transformation Course organised by the Sabah Agriculture Department at Dewan Sri Tawau, here. Nizam was responding to PKR State Leadership Council (MPN) Chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, who recently said PKR would reconsider its cooperation with GRS in the state election. Mustapha's comment followed allegations linking six political leaders from GRS component parties; three from Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and three from Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) – to a reported mining-related controversy. Nizam said PKR should also reflect on its own situation, as some of its aligned parties are also facing legal scrutiny. 'There's no need to name anyone, but all parties are facing similar circumstances,' he said. He believes the situation will not disrupt the overall direction set by GRS under the leadership of the Chief Minister. According to Nizam, the current administration has managed to reposition Sabah on the right development track and will continue working towards long-term plans aimed at improving the state's future. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Warisan denies Kunak YB's ‘Langkah Kinabalu' claim
Published on: Saturday, August 16, 2025 Published on: Sat, Aug 16, 2025 Text Size: Azhar, who is also Darau Assemblyman, denied Norazlinah's allegation that Warisan is no longer a local party due to its expansion into Peninsula Malaysia. Kota Kinabalu: Warisan Treasurer-General Datuk Azhar Matussin rejected Kunak Assemblywoman Norazlinah Arif's claim that the party was involved in the 'Langkah Kinabalu' political episode in Jan 2023. He said, at the time, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) was leading the State Government, with Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor still a member of Bersatu Sabah within the GRS coalition. Barisan Nasional (BN) and Hajiji were in the same Cabinet, while Warisan was in the State Opposition. ''Langkah Kinabalu' was an internal dispute between BN and Bersatu/GRS over power. 'Warisan was not in Hajiji's Cabinet and did not have the numbers to bring down the Government. Blaming Warisan is simply an attempt to twist the facts,' he said in a statement, Friday. Azhar, who is also Darau Assemblyman, denied Norazlinah's allegation that Warisan is no longer a local party due to its expansion into Peninsula Malaysia. He emphasised that the move was to ensure Sabah's voice was heard in Parliament and national decision-making. Azhar questioned her credibility, citing her record of party-hopping and suggesting her criticism of Warisan was aimed at winning favour with her new political leader rather than genuinely fighting for the people. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Stop exploiting issue: Gagasan
Published on: Saturday, August 16, 2025 Published on: Sat, Aug 16, 2025 By: Jonathan Nicholas Text Size: Razali said he respects netizens seeking justice, but tells those chasing popularity to stop. Kota Kinabalu: Gagasan Rakyat Darau Chief Datuk Razali Razi cautioned against using the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir to seek political mileage or social media fame. He was speaking ahead of tahlil prayers for Zara attended by 200 at the Masjid Al-Munir in Kampung Darau on Friday evening. Razali said he respects netizens seeking justice, but tells those chasing popularity to stop. 'This is about emotional support for the family, not making ourselves relevant.' He urged the public to avoid speculation, stressing that an inquest is needed to reveal the truth. 'Either enforce or review the school's anti-bullying system, if it's loose, tighten it. 'Treat this seriously, but don't politicise it to become a hero. 'Zara must be remembered with compassion,' he said, adding that prayers are welcome. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Warisan rep disputes the RM1 billion bond repayment
Published on: Saturday, August 16, 2025 Published on: Sat, Aug 16, 2025 Text Size: 'This shortfall was due to weak fiscal discipline before Warisan formed the government,' said Sarifuddin, accusing the minister of 'cherry-picking' records. Kota Kinabalu: Former Sabah assistant finance minister Sarifuddin Hata disputed State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun's version of the repayment of a RM1 billion State bond. He claimed that when Warisan took over in 2018, a year before the bond matured, the Bond Repayment Fund contained only about RM400 million or RM600 million short of what should have been saved under the previous RM200 million-a-year plan. 'This shortfall was due to weak fiscal discipline before Warisan formed the government,' said Sarifuddin, accusing the minister of 'cherry-picking' records. The Warisan Merotai Assemblyman said budget tabling did not mean allocations were actually deposited, and official records, undisclosed to the public, confirmed the 2018 balance was far below the target. He argued that if repayment was 'fully guaranteed' as claimed, there would have been no need for Warisan to urgently top up the fund. 'Warisan raised the amount to RM1 billion in under 12 months, while also covering interest that pushed the total repayment above RM1 billion , without taking new loans, cutting development, or burdening the public. 'This was not a routine matter but an effort to save Sabah's finances, protect its credit rating and credibility,' he said. Sarifuddin also claimed that Warisan implemented the sales tax on petroleum products in April 2020, gazetted under its administration. 'GRS was only able to claim the revenue because the first payment was received after they took over. The policy, groundwork and legal framework were entirely Warisan's,' he claimed and demanded transparency on how the bond proceeds were spent. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
