Bodies of three Maoists will be handed over to kin after legal process, say police
Addressing the media here, Mr. Bardar said the family members of the three Maoists, upon being informed, arrived at Rampachodavaram to receive the bodies.
'The legal process to hand over the bodies is going on. We will hand over the bodies respectfully once the process is completed,' Mr. Bardar said.
The Superintendent of Police was responding to the allegations levelled by the family members of slain Maoist Venkata Raavi Chaitanya, alias Aruna, alias Ruppi, that the police had not informed them about the death of Aruna and they were not allowed to see the body.
Referring to the encounter, Mr. Bardar said they had information about the movement of the Maoists in the Rampachodavaram area on June 17, following which combing operation was initiated.
'On June 18, between 7 a.m. and 7.15 a.m., an exchange fire had taken place in the Kintukuru forest area under Rampachodavaram police station limits. After the encounter, we found the bodies of three Maoists, two of them women. We recovered three AK 47 rifles, magazines, kit bags and Maoist literature from the place,' Mr. Bardar said.
Apart from Aruna, the other Maoists were identified as Gajarla Ravi, alias Uday, alias Ganesh, a central committee member carrying ₹25 lakh reward on his head, and Anju, alias Mase, who carried a reward of ₹1 lakh.
'Uday and Aruna were involved in more than 150 criminal cases, including the killing of an MLA and former MLA in 2018 and IED blasts,' Mr. Bardar said.
The Superintendent of Police said they had information that about 30 Maoists had entered Andhra Pradesh via Odisha from Chhattisgarh after the announcement of Operation Kagar in November 2024. 'After the first exchange of fire in April and surrenders, there may be five to six members still moving in the AOB region. The operation is still on,' he said.

SP cautions autorickshaw drivers to behave properly with passengers in Tirupati
Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Harshavardhan Raju delivered a bittersweet message — 'Pay heed or pay the price' — to the autorickshaw drivers of Tirupati, on Wednesday. It may be recalled that the Tirupati traffic police had recently launched a mobile application, where passengers boarding an autorickshaw could scan a QR code and gather details of the driver. The application also allows the passengers to lodge complaint against a driver if they face any kind of trouble or misbehaviour from the latter's side. The police command control centre, which would then receive the complaint, will initiate suitable action on the driver. Despite strengthening the measures for the safety of the passengers and to maintain law and order, an unsavoury incident rocked Tirupati recently. A passenger, that too a Tirumala-bound pilgrim, was thrashed by a group of auto rickshaw drivers over a petty issue. Though it later turned out to be a case of the passenger verbally abusing the driver, the latter had to face penal action for landing physical blows on the victim. SP's message Mr. Raju, who formally inaugurated a police outpost at Annamayya Circle Junction in Tirupati on Wednesday, distributed sweets to the autorickshaw drivers, and at the same time, minced no words in cautioning them. Without referring to the assault, Mr. Raju called upon the autorickshaw drivers to behave properly with the passengers. He also appealed to the autorickshaw unions not to blindly support or side with an erring driver, rather use their sense of judgment to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. Elaborate arrangements for Vinayaka Chathurthi as over 2,300 idols permitted across Coimbatore district
The Coimbatore City Police and the Coimbatore District (Rural) Police are making elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations across the district. A little over 2,300 large-size Vinayaka idols will be allowed for installation in public places across the district this year. The city police have given permission for the installation of a total of 712 Vinayaka idols (three feet and above) at various locations, after scrutinising requests from political parties, Hindu organisations and other forums. Coimbatore City Police Commissioner A. Saravana Sundar, Deputy Commissioners of Police N. Devanathan (North) and G. Karthikeyan (South) held discussions with stakeholders for the smooth conduct of the celebrations, processions and immersion of idols in waterbodies. The city police on Wednesday held peace meetings with representatives from various jamaths and Hindu organisations in view of Vinayaka Chathurthi. Sources said BJP leader K. Annamalai is expected to take part in the celebrations at Thudiyalur in city limits. Officials with the district police said a little over 1,600 Vinayaka idols would be permitted in rural limits. More than 1,700 large-size idols were immersed in various waterbodies in the rural areas last year. Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan was overseeing the arrangements in coordination with officials in the six sub-divisions – Pollachi, Valparai, Periyanaickenpalayam, Perur, Karumathampatti and Mettupalayam.

DIG North Kashmir reviews Kupwara security, calls for action against threats
Srinagar, Aug 20 (UNI) Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir, Maqsood-ul-Zaman, today stressed the importance of people-friendly policing while calling for firm action against anti-peace elements. He made the remarks while reviewing the security scenario in the border district of Kupwara and assessing the preparedness of forces on the counter-terrorism front. During the visit, DIG Zaman inspected various operational units and held detailed interactions with SSP Kupwara, Ghulam Jeelani, other officers, and personnel. At J&K Police's Special Operation Group (SOG) camp in Lolab, the DIG chaired a Darbar with the forces to listen to their issues and grievances. 'Several matters related to welfare and operational needs were resolved on the spot, while directions were issued for early redressal of remaining concerns,' police said. On counter-terrorism preparedness, the DIG carried out a comprehensive on-ground assessment to ensure smooth operational functioning. ASP Kupwara, Syed Javid, gave a detailed power point presentation highlighting recent threat perceptions, operational strategies, and area domination plans.
