Bodies of three Maoists will be handed over to kin after legal process, say police
The bodies of the three Maoists who were killed in an exchange of fire would be handed over to their family members after following the legal process, Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar said on Thursday.
Addressing the media here, Mr. Bardar said the family members of the three Maoists, upon being informed, arrived at Rampachodavaram to receive the bodies.
'The legal process to hand over the bodies is going on. We will hand over the bodies respectfully once the process is completed,' Mr. Bardar said.
The Superintendent of Police was responding to the allegations levelled by the family members of slain Maoist Venkata Raavi Chaitanya, alias Aruna, alias Ruppi, that the police had not informed them about the death of Aruna and they were not allowed to see the body.
Referring to the encounter, Mr. Bardar said they had information about the movement of the Maoists in the Rampachodavaram area on June 17, following which combing operation was initiated.
'On June 18, between 7 a.m. and 7.15 a.m., an exchange fire had taken place in the Kintukuru forest area under Rampachodavaram police station limits. After the encounter, we found the bodies of three Maoists, two of them women. We recovered three AK 47 rifles, magazines, kit bags and Maoist literature from the place,' Mr. Bardar said.
Apart from Aruna, the other Maoists were identified as Gajarla Ravi, alias Uday, alias Ganesh, a central committee member carrying ₹25 lakh reward on his head, and Anju, alias Mase, who carried a reward of ₹1 lakh.
'Uday and Aruna were involved in more than 150 criminal cases, including the killing of an MLA and former MLA in 2018 and IED blasts,' Mr. Bardar said.
The Superintendent of Police said they had information that about 30 Maoists had entered Andhra Pradesh via Odisha from Chhattisgarh after the announcement of Operation Kagar in November 2024. 'After the first exchange of fire in April and surrenders, there may be five to six members still moving in the AOB region. The operation is still on,' he said.

Gadwal: In a case related to unlawful entry and ploughing of another person's agricultural land along with issuing criminal threats, three accused have been sentenced to two years of imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,000 each under Section 506 of the IPC. Additionally, under Section 447 IPC, the same three along with another accused were sentenced to two months of imprisonment and fined ₹500 each. The initial judgment was delivered in December last year. However, the accused challenged the verdict by appealing to the Principal District Sessions Court. Today, Hon'ble Judge Smt. Premalatha upheld the lower court's verdict and confirmed the punishments. Case Details: On 16th June 2016, Guduru Nagaraj, aged 34, a resident of Gattu village, filed a complaint at the local police station. He reported that his father owned 0.39 guntas of land under Survey No. 258. On the mentioned date, four brothers from the same village — Sarabai Krishna s/o Somanna, Chinna Mukanna, Pedda Mukanna, and Gundenna — entered his land with a tractor and began ploughing it without permission. When the complainant questioned their actions, Sarabai Krishna reportedly responded aggressively, saying, 'What are you looking at? Hit him!' The other three brothers allegedly threatened the complainant, stating they would kill him. Fearing for his safety, he fled the scene and approached the police for action. Based on the complaint, Gattu Police registered Cr. No. 59/2016 under Sections 427, 506, and 447 read with 35 of IPC, investigated the matter, and remanded the accused. Following the filing of the charge sheet, in December 2024, the court delivered its verdict: Under Section 506 IPC: A1 – Sarabai Krishna (47 years) A3 – Pedda Mukanna (60 years) A4 – Gundenna (70 years) were sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment and fined ₹1,000 each. Under Section 447 IPC: A1 – Sarabai Krishna A2 – Chinna Mukanna (44 years) A3 – Pedda Mukanna A4 – Gundenna were sentenced to 2 months of imprisonment and fined ₹500 each. The accused appealed the verdict in the Principal District Sessions Court, but Hon'ble Judge Smt. Premalatha dismissed the appeal and upheld the original decision. SOG submits in court sanction to prosecute Babulal Katara
Jaipur: Police's special operations group (SOG) Thursday submitted before the special Enforcement Directorate (ED) court here the prosecution sanction granted by state govt to proceed against suspended Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) member Babulal Katara in the 2022 Second Grade Teacher Exam paper leak case. The prosecution sanction was submitted before the court by SOG's special public prosecutor BS Chauhan. Katara has been in jail for over two years and was denied bail April by a special CBI court, which cited strong evidence and the seriousness of the offence. Katara is accused of leaking the exam paper in collaboration with his nephew and others, allegedly accepting payments in cash, gold, and iPhones in return. Police found the leaked paper being solved by candidates in a bus, leading to multiple arrests. Prosecutors argue that Katara, who was entrusted with preparing the exam, abused his position and played a key role in the leak. Chargesheets filed by ACB and Udaipur police name him as a central figure in the organised network behind the leak.

Union home minister Amir Shah to review anti-Naxal operations, visit security camp in Chhattisgarh during 2-day trip
NEW DELHI: Home minister Amit Shah will visit Chhattisgarh on June 22 and 23, during which he will review the security scenario in the state against the backdrop of intensified anti-Maoist operations, and also tour the Naxalism-hit Narayanpur district. During his visit to the district on June 23, Shah will interact with the DRG teams that had tracked and eliminated Basavaraju and 27 other Maoists. Shah had earlier met the senior officials of Chhattisgarh police and felicitated them on success of the same operation. The home minister will also meet local villagers in Narayanpur to take stock of development initiatives on the ground.
