Four arrested after break-in at home reportedly owned by Brad Pitt, say police

Yahoo5 days ago
Four people have been arrested in connection with a burglary earlier this summer at a Los Angeles home reportedly owned by actor Brad Pitt, police said.
Officers responded on June 25 to a break-in at the house in the Los Feliz area of the city.
Police said at the time that suspects broke in through the front window, ransacked the home and fled with miscellaneous property.
Detectives have made four arrests, Officer Drake Madison said on Tuesday. He said the suspects' names could be released later in the day.
Officials could not identify who owned or lived in the home, and no information was available on what was stolen.
Pitt reportedly bought the property for 5.5 million US dollars (£4 million) in April 2023, according to Traded, a commercial real estate website.
A representative for the actor declined to comment on Tuesday.
Pitt had been out of the country in June on a globe-spanning promotional tour for his new movie, F1.

Police dog snags drink and drug driver who fled after crashing into bridge

A plucky police dog snagged a suspected drink and drug driver who tried to flee after crashing into a bridge in Warwickshire. The incident, which happened in Kineton last weekend, saw emergency services attend the scene to find it abandoned. Knowing there might be some clues, Police Dog Jinx was bought in to try and sniff out a trail, which he did. A man believed to be the driver was found by PD Jinx trying to hide nearby. He was subsequently arrested having tested positive for various substances. A spokesman for Warwickshire Police's Operational Patrol Unit said: "In the early hours of Saturday morning reports were received from West Midlands Ambulance Service that a vehicle had collided at high speed with a bridge wall in the Kineton area. "The male was arrested at the scene for failing a roadside breath test with a reading of 91ug (the limit is 35) and he also tested positive for cannabis and cocaine by Roads Policing Officers."

DC Police Union chair supports Trump takeover

The head of the DC Police Union praised President Trump's temporary takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and deployment of National Guard troops as a 'critical stopgap' amid 'out of control' crime in the nation's capital on Monday. 'We stand with the President in recognizing that Washington, D.C., cannot continue on this trajectory,' union Chair Gregg Pemberton said in a statement. 'Crime is out of control, and our officers are stretched beyond their limits.' 'The federal intervention is a critical stopgap, but the MPD needs proper staffing and support to thrive,' he added. According to recent estimates, MPD's force is about 500 officers short of its 4,000-officer allotment and is at its lowest staffing level in decades. Critics of Trump's move have pointed to falling crime rates in the District to knock the president's sweeping moves to bolster local crime-fighting efforts. But the police union, Trump and others have questioned the statistics that show decreases in violent crimes. Pemberton, who has long been a critic of the D.C. City Council's policies, accused council members of driving out 'our best officers and hinder(ing) recruitment' with the passage of the Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Act of 2020. 'No one on the Council has the courage to repeal this, or any of the other 26 sections that destroyed our police department,' the D.C. Police Union wrote on the social platform X on Thursday regarding the reform law's COVID-19 provision that allow masks to be worn in public. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. DC mayor: Trump takeover an ‘authoritarian push'

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) shot back at President Trump's federal takeover of Washington's Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) on Tuesday, decrying the move as an 'authoritarian push' by the administration. 'This is a time where community needs to jump in, um, and we all need to, to do what we can in our space in our lane to protect our city … and to protect our autonomy, to protect our home rule, and get to the other side of this guy, and make sure we elect a Democratic house so that we have a backstop to this authoritarian push,' Bowser said during town hall with community leaders. 'So don't let your kids be a part of that, like, know where your kids are and make sure they're not grouping together because they will be a target,' she added. Trump revealed Monday he would deploy the National Guard to assist local law enforcement in patrolling the nation's capital and that the administration would temporarily have oversight over the MPD, painting the District as riddled with 'violent' crime. The crime in Washington has been down compared to last year and 2023, but the number of homicides in 2024 is still higher than the years leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Tuesday, the city reached 100 homicides so far this year. The president's decision was backed by Gregg Pemberton, the head of the DC Police Union, who argued that the effort is a 'critical stopgap' amid crime in the city. 'We stand with the President in recognizing that Washington, D.C., cannot continue on this trajectory. Crime is out of control, and our officers are stretched beyond their limits,' Pemberton said in a statement. Bowser's rebuke of Trump's decision comes as she struck a more conciliatory tone Monday after the president's formal announcement. 'I'm going to work every day to make sure it's not a complete disaster. Let me put it that way,' she told reporters on Monday. The mayor met with Attorney General Pam Bondi on Tuesday, and the two agreed to 'work closely.' During her appearance on 'The Breakfast Club' radio show on Tuesday, Bowser also reupped her call for the District's statehood. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
