Mandla Ncikazi happy with Orlando Pirates' ‘positive' season
Orlando Pirates interim coach Mandla Ncikazi voiced his satisfaction with their 2024-2025 season, highlighting narrowing the gap with champions Mamelodi Sundowns and the introduction of many promising young stars as positive takeaways.
Last season, Pirates finished as runners-up, 23 points behind champions Sundowns. The season before second-placed Bucs were 16 points adrift of the now eight-time successive Premiership title-holders.
This season the gap could be 10 points, should Pirates win their last game of the season against Magesi FC at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday (7.30pm). Bucs only won the MTN8 this season, losing to Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final and Pyramids FC in the Caf Champions League semifinals.

Chiefs struggled both on the right and left side of tcheir defence especially after Reeve Frosler's injury. The now released Njabulo Blom filled in at right-back initially before he also suffered from bad form. In the end, that gave an unlikely opportunity to Dillan Solomons to revive his Amakhosi career. Now according to FARPost, his end of season run-in may have saved his stay at the club. 'While Solomons showed several shortcomings in his game, Nabi lacked an alternative in that position. Njabulo Blom reportedly refused to play right-back, insisting he preferred holding midfield. Monyane arrives and is expected to compete with Frosler for a starting role. The Steenberg-born talent, Solomons, signed a four-year contract upon joining Chiefs in 2022 and has one year remaining. Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are reportedly in a race to sign U2 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner Neo Rapoo. Rapoo is currently on the books of SuperSport United which has been his home since his development days. The left-back has grown in leaps and bounds since making his PSL debut for Matsatsantsa three seasons ago. At the time, Rapoo was just 16 years old, and he has become one of the top talents in the South African football. Now, iDiski Times reports that Rapoo is wanted by both Chiefs and Pirates ahead of next season, and that the player is keen. Monyane's words after 13 years at Orlando Pirates
Kaizer Chiefs will announce the former Orlando Pirates full-back Thabiso Monyane before the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season starts.
