Central schemes empower Karnataka's artistes

Bengaluru: The Union Ministry of Culture has extended financial and promotional support to hundreds of artistes across the state in 2024-25. According to details shared in the Lok Sabha, 397 veteran artistes have been provided with a monthly pension under a dedicated scheme aimed at supporting senior artistes. This initiative targets individuals aged 60 and above with an annual income below Rs. 72,000, offering them Rs. 6,000 monthly to honour their lifelong contributions to the arts. In cases of an artiste's passing, the financial aid seamlessly transfers to their spouse, ensuring continued support. The information came to light following a query raised by Udupi-Chikkamagalur MP Kota Srinivas Poojari during a parliamentary session on July 28. Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat outlined the various measures taken to uplift artistes in Karnataka, emphasising the government's commitment to preserving cultural heritage. Beyond veteran artistes, 716 folk artists from Karnataka have benefited from initiatives spearheaded by the South Zone Cultural Centre (SZCC) in Thanjavur, which is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture. These artistes received support through honorariums, travel allowances, accommodation, and local transportation for their participation in cultural events organised by the SZCC. Additionally, programs like the Guru-Shishya Parampara (repertory grant) have been instrumental, providing group leaders with Rs. 15,000 per month and group members with Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 10,000 monthly. The Cultural Function and Production Grant Scheme has also played a key role, offering up to Rs. 20 lakh to facilitate cultural festivals and programs in the state. Karnataka's artistes have also gained recognition on national and international stages. Many have been empanelled for prestigious events such as the Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsavs and global platforms like the 'Festival of India' under the Global Engagement Scheme. These opportunities not only provide financial backing but also amplify the visibility of Karnataka's rich artistic traditions. MP Poojari's inquiry specifically sought details on financial schemes and efforts to promote and preserve Karnataka's diverse folk art forms. This robust support system reflects a broader commitment to safeguarding India's artistic legacy while empowering its creators, positioning Karnataka as a vibrant hub of cultural expression in 2024-25.

Son of Sardaar 2 review: Internet is loving the comedy in Ajay Devgn's movie, call it ‘paisa vasool family entertainer'

Son of Sardaar 2 review: Son of Sardaar 2, starring Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur, is winning the Internet with its brain-rotting comedy, and the social media users are convinced that it is the ultimate 'paisa vasool family entertainer' of the year. The movie, which hit the theatres on Friday, August 1, left social media abuzz with the release of its song Pehla Tu Duja Tu, which got trolled, but talked about, because of its viral finger dance. At the box office, Son of Sardaar 2 is facing major competition from Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's blockbuster movie Saiyaara, and the newly released Dhadak 2 starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. Son of Sardaar 2 has been praised for delivering what it promised – brain-rotting comedy, and social media users have urged the audience to just enjoy the 'masala ride' instead of expecting depth in it. 'It's a wonderful movie, lots of comedy, lots of laughing moment, it's a completely family entertainers,' said a user. Another user said, 'It's a full Paisa vasool family entertainer, you will laugh and you will be entertained and that's what this film promised.' A user said, 'Son of Sardaar 2 delivers what it promises — a loud, colorful, and crowd-pleasing entertainer. Perfect for a festive family watch!' 'Don't go in expecting depth, just sit back and enjoy the masala ride,' he added. 'It's a wonderful movie, lots of comedy, lots of laughing moment, it's a completely family entertainers. A must watch!' said another user. One user said, 'Son Of Sardaar 2 is a feel-good comedy drama with a strong emotional core & a beautiful representation of how deeply rooted values can shine even in foreign lands.' 'Son Of Sardaar 2 has its old gags alive to make you tickle everytime. Ajay Devgn as Jassi is quite promising. Entire cast is satisfying. The only minor flaws lie in the screenplay but a fun BRAINROT,' added another. However, there were users who found the movie to be the 'WORST FILM OF THE YEAR'. 'Son Of Sardaar 2 is something that's gonna give you a HEADACHE right from the first scene to the last !! Literally speaking, there is not a SINGLE SEQUENCE that makes you laugh,' a user said. They added, 'The screenplay seems like it was written during a LUNCH BREAK, the DIALOGUES sound like REJECTED WhatsApp forwards, and the PRESENTATION? Even school assemblies have better production value.' Ajay Devgn's acting was also questioned in the movie, with netizens saying that he is becoming what Akshay Kumar used to be – 'an actor with ZERO EFFORT, FULL-ON SLEEPWALK & POOR ACTING.' Set in Punjab and Scotland, this Vijay Kumar Arora directorial is produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande. Other than Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur, the star cast of the movie features Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Neeru Bajwa, Chunky Panday, Kubbra Sait, Deepak Dobriyal, Vindu Dara Singh, Roshni Walia, Sharat Saxena, Sahil Mehta and the late Mukul Dev in key roles.

‘Alia took Ahaan-Aneet's numbers and…': Mohit Suri reveals Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor's first reaction to Saiyaara

Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda became overnight stars when their debut film Saiyaara arrived in theatres. We already witnessed the craze amongst audiences through viral videos from theatres. But the Mohit Suri directorial also received a shout out from several celebrities online. One of the first to laud Ahaan and Aneet's Saiyaara was Mohit's actor cousin Alia Bhatt. In her wholesome review, Alia shared, 'I don't remember the last time I looked at two actors with such awe. With stars in my eyes… watching the stars in yours. You both shine with such individuality, such honesty — I could watch you again, and again, and again. (And let's be honest… I probably will.)' Well, Mohit has now revealed what Alia and her actor husband Ranbir Kapoor's first reaction was when they watched Saiyaara. Mohit Suri, Alia Bhatt, Aneet Padda, Ahaan Panday In a recent chat with NDTV, Mohit Suri revealed that he had invited Alia Bhatt to the screening of Saiyaara, but she was adamant to watch it in theatres after release. Mohit was quoted saying, 'Yes, she went to watch it in the theatre. I was inviting her to a trial screening, but she said no, she would watch it in the theatre. After watching it in the theatre, she praised it a lot. She took the numbers of both actors and spoke to them.' He went on to add, 'She also showed the film to Ranbir. Alia has been supporting this film from the beginning because she felt it carries the same emotional depth that I often infuse in my own films. She has been very supportive throughout my career, actually.' After watching Saiyaara with Alia, Ranbir personally called Mohit and praised the film. Mohit revealed how Ranbir told him to take it easy for now because the filmmaker still has to make a lot of films. We are sure fans, who are eagerly waiting for Mohit's next, would agree with Ranbir. For now, the team is enjoying the love received by Saiyaara, with lead stars Aneet and Ahaan blowing off steam on their respective vacations.
