Michelin to remove access to health centers for retirees

Yahooa day ago

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Starting next year some Michelin retirees will lose access to health centers they have been using for years.
Michelin North America, which operates multiple manufacturing facilities and a corporate office in the Upstate, confirmed Monday that, beginning in 2026, Michelin Family Health Centers will only be available to active employees and their dependents.
For years, Michelin has operated health clinics at certain facilities, offering primary care, urgent care, lab services, exams and preventative health programs. The clinics have historically been available to all employees, retirees and their dependents.
'We recognize that this change may impact retirees who have utilized these facilities, and we are dedicated to making this transition as smooth as possible,' said the company in a statement. 'Retirees will continue to have access to all other providers covered under their health plans, along with the additional benefits that reflect our core value of respect for people.'
Retirees will continue to have access to Michelin Family Health Centers through January 1, 2026.
The company said it recently informed 'eligible retirees' of the change.

S.C. Senator advocates for medical marijuana for 2026

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) – The Compassionate Care Act did not pass in South Carolina for this session, a bill that would legalize medical marijuana. The bill would legalize medicinal cannabis for patients with qualifying medical conditions as long as it's prescribed by a doctor. Medical marijuana is legal in 39 states, but not in South Carolina. Senator Tom Davis (R – Beauford) said after over a decade of trying, 2026 is the year. 'That pharmacist is going to take an oath. I mean, we're not just going to dispense this when it's not warranted, you know, so there's checks and balances in place when you have medical providers involved,' said Brian Clark from South Carolina Pharmacy Association. Davis said it's a no-brainer because it promotes medical freedom. 'It is a conservative bill. It is strictly limited to medical conditions, and really this is all about helping patients,' Davis said. Clark said he has heard continuously that there needs to be more research, but he said almost every study said 70-80% of voters think it's needed. 'Well, medical marijuana has been used for years and years. I mean, we're looking at least probably 70, 80 years. At what point do we do we start with needing more studies?' Clark said. The bill has passed in the senate twice before, but the Speaker of the House, Murrell Smith, has said there is not enough support in the House to pass the bill. 'Speaker Smith's previous statement on the medical marijuana bill holds true,' said a statement from Speaker Smith's office. Governor Henry McMaster said last week that he recognizes both sides of the argument. 'They have it was a very compelling situation,' McMaster said. 'On the other hand, law enforcement almost took into and are still have grave concerns. I think what we need to do is study it very carefully, get as much information as we can, and try to do the right thing.' Davis said that he plans on talking to Smith directly because he believes that he has the votes in the House to pass it. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Ladies only gym promising a 'safe space for women' opening this weekend

A ladies only gym promising a safe space for women is to open in Southampton this weekend. Personal trainers Hayley Rich and Cara Rowe are hosting an open event to launch Valkyrie Fitness at Drivers Wharf in Northam Road on Sunday from 11am. From the seed of an idea back in March, the two floor premises has already been transformed to include strength machines, cardio equipment and plenty of room for classes. (Image: Valkryie Fitness)READ MORE: Son of Michelin star chef opens another restaurant in Southampton Hayley, who has been in the industry since 2018, explained: "Over the years, I've realised I wanted to build a safe space for women. "We're all about confidence building, empowering women and building a community. We want to show that health and fitness doesn't have to be intimidating or overwhelming, we're aiming for a very chilled atmosphere. "When I came up with the idea for the gym, I contacted Cara who I had worked with at a previous gym and who also only works with women, and here we are just a few weeks later." Cara, who lost five stone in weight in 2019 before qualifying as a personal trainer, added: "It's more of a community vibe and a supportive space that we're going for than the normal gym experience. "I've walked the walk and I'm very keen to help others live healthier lives." (Image: Valkryie Fitness) Valkyrie Fitness will welcome all ladies of any ability and any age for training and classes including boot camp, circuits, legs, bums and tums, and recovery and stretching at various intensities. It will have a particular focus on mental health and wellbeing with wellness days and seminars on subjects including the menopause and other women's issues. The gym will also include a chill out area with bean bags, a coffee machine area if clients would like to sit down for a drink and a chat after their workout and positive affirmations on the bathroom wall. All are welcome to attend the launch on Sunday with goodie bags and a class for the first ladies through the doors. (Image: Valkryie Fitness)
