District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad has directed his staff to complete the mapping process of P-4 mentors within the next two days.
He emphasised that industrialists, volunteers and those conducting other business activities should be identified as mentors, and mapped to the `Bangaru Kutumbalu' (families identified by the government for a support under this P4 programme).
As per the preliminary data, at least 2,600 mentors have been identified in the district, and at least 26,000 families have been identified for mapping with mentors under the P4 programme, which is a zero poverty initiative of the State government.

Vijayawada: The Rose Society of Andhra Pradesh has stepped forward to participate in the state government's 'P4' poverty eradication programme, adopting several 'Golden Families' to support their upliftment. The members of the society met with district collector Dr G Lakshmisha at his camp office here on Friday, expressing their commitment to social responsibility. During the meeting, Collector Lakshmisha explained the significance of the P4 initiative, a key step towards achieving the vision of 'Swarnandhra' (Golden Andhra). He stated that the programme aims at bringing new light into the lives of the poor, with the goal of achieving 'zero poverty' by 2029 through a transparent implementation process. The collector highlighted that the P4 initiative is designed to empower the top 10 per cent of society to guide and uplift the bottom 20 per cent of families. He praised the idea that those who have been successful with the support of society should give back, acting as mentors for these families. Lakshmisha revealed that 86,398 'Golden Families' have been identified in the district. So far, 4,279 mentors have come forward to adopt 33,505 families. He said that in addition to individual entrepreneurs, organisations such as the Red Cross, Rotary, and the Andhra Motor Merchants Association (AMMA) have also joined the effort. He commended the Rose Society for responding to the government's call and encouraged more individuals and organisations to come forward voluntarily. The delegation that met with the Collector included Dr Adusumilli Sitamahalakshmi (Advisory Chairperson), Surapaneni Usharani (President), Ghantasala Lakshmi (Secretary), and executive committee members A Ratnalakshmi, Kancherla Subha, and Atluri Sumabindu.

The government on Friday notified the Andhra Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy (4.0) 2024–29 (ECMP) aimed at boosting manufacturing capacities in the electronics sector and establishing a robust semiconductor and display fabrication ecosystem in the State. According to a G.O. issued by Katamneni Bhaskar, Secretary (IT, Electronics & Communications), the ECMP is aligned with the Government of India's Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme and focuses on building an electronics component manufacturing ecosystem that contributes significantly to the State's economic development. The policy seeks to integrate State-based companies into the global electronics value chain, thereby enhancing their position within the supply network. The ECMP will remain in force for five years, during which the State government will extend incentives to eligible companies, as detailed in separate operational guidelines to be notified later. The policy emphasises the development of Component Manufacturing Clusters (CMCs) with shared facilities in strategic locations such as Tirupati, Anantapur, Visakhapatnam, Kopparthy, and Nellore. These CMCs will specialise in areas like printed circuit boards, display technologies, optoelectronics, and passive components. The policy also aims to enhance the Speed of Doing Business, reduce operational costs through infrastructure development, and provide ready-built factory shells and plug-and-play facilities. In addition, it targets the attraction of global anchor firms in key component segments by offering customised support packages and incentives for supply chain partners to participate in building the CMCs.

TN leads semiconductor workforce readiness with new IIT Madras centre

In alignment with the Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Mission 2030, the state government has initiated a pioneering project to establish a Centre for Advanced Semiconductor Technologies. This facility, powered by India's first in-situ semiconductor fab processing facility, is a collaboration between the Tamil Nadu government, IIT Madras, and leading corporate partners in the semiconductor industry. The goal is to ensure workforce readiness as the industry evolves in India. The Government of Tamil Nadu will support this initiative with an initial seed grant of Rs 100 crore. The facility will include a small-scale production-grade fab to jump-start local capabilities, drive advanced research, and support continuous skilling, localisation of technology, prototyping, productisation, and incubation of startups. The initiative will also explore collaboration opportunities with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. 'With this initiative, our focus is on developing human capital in this sector and building a globally competitive semiconductor workforce in Tamil Nadu. From fabless design to equipment manufacturing, from R&D to startups, and from technician training to advanced engineering, we are creating opportunities for every layer of talent,' said state industries minister TRB Rajaa. The Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Mission 2030's efforts to develop the workforce will be anchored under the 'School of Semiconductor' initiative. The Centre is the first intervention under this initiative to address workforce readiness. The proposed centre will be located at the Central Polytechnic Campus in Chennai. The centre plans to train over 4,500 candidates through specialised modules spanning two to six weeks. The facility will focus on translational research with practical applications in priority sectors such as electric vehicles, data centres, and space technology. The Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Mission 2030 was officially announced as part of the State Budget for 2025–2026, underscoring the government's strategic vision to position Tamil Nadu as a national and global hub for semiconductor innovation and manufacturing. Under this mission, the state will focus on promoting fabless chip companies to design advanced semiconductor chips, supporting semiconductor equipment manufacturing, and investing in a highly skilled workforce to meet both national and global industry demands. 'Our vision is to make Tamil Nadu the singular, indispensable source of highly skilled talent required for the booming semiconductor industry across the nation and the world,' he added. Tamil Nadu offers a robust ecosystem for semiconductor growth, anchored by its rich talent pool, the government said. The government aims to leverage and upskill this workforce to tackle the complex challenges of the semiconductor industry. These efforts are expected to create a range of high-paying technical roles, including process engineers, fab technicians, and fab maintenance professionals. Additionally, this initiative will propel the MSME sector in Tamil Nadu to upgrade its capabilities for more precision, clean room environments, and high-reliability manufacturing.
