BN to contest Sabah polls as united team with PH cooperation
The coalition is currently in discussions with Pakatan Harapan (PH) and local Sabah parties to form strategic partnerships ahead of the polls.
Mohamad, who is also UMNO Deputy President, emphasized the need for clarity in voter choices.
'We are exploring cooperation with PH in Sabah because BN cannot go it alone there.
'We need partners to ensure a strong front. Seat distribution is still under discussion, but our goal is to avoid confusion and present a united team capable of governing effectively,' he said.
He made these remarks after officiating the UMNO Ledang Division Delegates' Meeting at Dewan Putra Padang Lerek. The event was attended by UMNO Ledang Division chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Talib.
Meanwhile, UMNO Wanita Chief Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad revealed that the party is conducting sentiment studies nationwide to gauge voter trends.
'For Sabah, the study is complete, and the leadership will decide on its disclosure,' she said. Noraini stressed the importance of coordination among UMNO's Wanita, Youth, and Puteri wings to ensure election readiness.
The Sabah State Legislative Assembly's term will automatically dissolve on November 11, setting the stage for the 17th state election.

Malaysia's chairmanship of Asean this year has delivered key milestones that reinforce the bloc's role as a credible and principled platform in navigating regional challenges, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. The Foreign Minister said the upcoming Asean Summit in October, alongside the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Summit, would further elevate Malaysia's profile as a respected hub for diplomacy and dialogue. 'With only four months left before the end of our chairmanship, Malaysia remains committed to sustaining this positive momentum, particularly in ensuring the success of the 47th Asean Summit and related meetings,' he told Dewan Rakyat yesterday. Mohamad said Malaysia's achievements as chair included the launch of the Asean Community Vision 2045, the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Declaration and the historic admission of Timor-Leste as the bloc's 11th member. Under Malaysia's leadership, he said Asean also maintained the Five-Point Consensus as the main framework for addressing the Myanmar crisis, while pushing for an extended ceasefire and engaging with all stakeholders to support peace efforts. He added that Malaysia spearheaded humanitarian missions to Myanmar following the recent earthquake, secured wider international participation in the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC), and advanced Asean's economic integration through agreements such as the upgraded Asean Trade in Goods Agreement and the Asean Digital Economy Framework. Apart from that, Mohamad said Cyprus is expected to sign the TAC during the upcoming summit, following Algeria and Uruguay's accession which brought the total signatories to 57. Mohamad also highlighted Malaysia's efforts in coordinating the establishment of an Interim Observer Team, comprising defence advisers from Asean member states, to monitor compliance with the ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. He stressed that this role underscored Malaysia's credibility as a neutral and trusted mediator in regional conflicts.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, said the state's soil fertility was deemed suitable for onion cultivation and initial trials showed promising results. He said KPKM had approved an allocation of RM6 million for the Onion Cultivation Development Project in three states, namely Selangor, Perak and Kelantan, involving 80 participants with an area of 94.85 hectares (ha), which includes 11 farmers (40 ha) in Selangor, 52 farmers (26.85 ha) in Kelantan, and 17 farmers (28 ha) in Perak. Recently, Kelantan carried out its first harvest with an expected production yield of 18.4 tonnes from an area of 4.6 ha at the Telong Food Production Park (TKPM) in Bachok, which used the BAW-1 and BAW-2 varieties. "This harvest result shows a positive achievement as it recorded high production of around four tonnes per hectare, so Insya-Allah, next year we want Kelantan to become the main producer of this onion because its land is fertile for onion cultivation," he said when winding up the debate on the motion on the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) for KPKM in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday. "Regarding production costs, we still don't have precise figures. Some use the greenhouse method, which is quite expensive. Overall, the government has not yet finalised the production cost for one tonne of local onions. "The cost also varies depending on whether it is grown outdoors or in a greenhouse. However, we see that the price gap with imported onions is not too wide," he said. He also said that although there are no official figures yet, the government expects local onion production to reduce dependence on onion imports by up to 30 per cent. "This year we are focusing on seed production, and next year it will be distributed. Insya-Allah, if everything goes smoothly, we can save one-third, 30 per cent of onion imports, that's our hope," he added. - BERNAMA
