Temple Vandalism Sparks Tension In Bengal's Maheshtala, BJP Slams Mamata Over 'Appeasement'

In the violence that followed, stones were pelted, and one police officer is said to have sustained injuries
Fresh communal tension broke out in Maheshtala, South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, on Tuesday after a reported incident of temple vandalism led to clashes between two communities. The violence took place near the Rabindranagar Police Station in the Budge Budge area.
According to sources, the clash began after a person was stopped from setting up a shop near a local Hindu temple. This reportedly led to a group allegedly vandalising the temple, triggering outrage among local residents. In the violence that followed, stones were pelted, and one police officer is said to have sustained injuries.
To control the situation, police resorted to lathicharge and fired tear gas shells. A Rapid Action Force (RAF) team was also deployed to restore peace in the area.
Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar reacted strongly to the incident, blaming the state government for 'Muslim appeasement".
In a detailed post on social media platform X, Majumdar accused the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government of ignoring repeated attacks on Bengali Hindus in Muslim-majority areas of the state.
The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Rabindranagar Police Station in Maheshtala, which falls under the infamous @DiamondHrbrPD. To be blunt—this is yet another burning example of the Bhaipo's so-called 'Diamond Model'.If you want to understand the reality Bengali… pic.twitter.com/SQ9nuLtWSn

He alleged that a Shiva temple was vandalised right in front of a police station and that local Hindus, including a police officer, were attacked.
'The most outrageous part? Despite knowing exactly who was responsible—a certain 'peace-loving" community—the police didn't take action against them," Majumdar wrote. 'Instead, they charged at the Hindus."
The senior BJP leader further accused the state of following a pattern of inaction, referring to similar incidents in Malda and Murshidabad. 'The same pattern was seen in Malda and Murshidabad. Even there, the police stood in silence while horrific violence was unleashed on Hindus. What happened today in Rabindranagar is simply another side of the same coin."
'All of this happened in front of the police, yet they did nothing. They were assaulted, but didn't dare to strike back. The reason is plain—@MamataOfficial's shameless policy of Muslim appeasement, the consequences of which are now deeply embedded even in the state's OBC list," Majumdar stated.

Perfect driving record: Gurgaon's first ‘traffic champions' set an example

Gurgaon: A fine arts graduate, a 52-year-old and the son of a BJP functionary were among five city residents to be felicitated by the traffic police on Thursday. Cops scoured hundreds of hours of CCTV footage from last month to shortlist the city's first "traffic champions". Shyam Jee Bhan, Ajay, Priya, Mamta and Surender Gahlot – all of them commuters who regularly drive – were on Thursday called to DCP (traffic) Rajesh Kumar Mohan's office in Sector 28 and awarded 'letters of appreciation' because they did not violate any traffic rules all through May and never received a challan. DCP Mohan said this ceremony was part of police's new initiative – 'Drive Right, Shine Bright' – to encourage people to drive safely. Every month, police will scan footage from the Integrated City Control Centre (ICCC), which is linked to traffic cameras around Gurgaon, to search for "champions" like Bhan and Priya. "Our aim is not to generate revenue through challans but to also recognise the sincerity and discipline of those commuters who never get challaned and don't put lives at risk. They are the real traffic heroes, and everyone should recognise them and learn from them," the DCP said at the event on Thursday. He added that police will be "more than happy" if they "don't get a chance to challan anyone". Shyam Jee Bhan, a resident of DLF-2, said he was "sceptical" when he first got a call from police. "One gets cautious if the police are calling you. Eventually, I got it confirmed through a friend that Gurgaon traffic police have initiated a unique campaign, and I am among the first traffic champions here," Bhan said. The 52-year-old told TOI he moved to Gurgaon in 1998 and has always followed traffic rules. "I urge all commuters to follow traffic rules. These days, everyone wants to be ahead of others, but a little caution can avoid road rage incidents too," he said. The letter of appreciation given to Bhan commended him for not breaking any traffic rules in May, and never having a challan issued against his car. "It demonstrates outstanding discipline and civic responsibility on your part. Your conduct contributes to safer roads, smoother traffic, and sets a powerful example for fellow citizens," the award read. Priya, a 23-year-old who recently completed her BA in fine arts, also urged commuters to drive safely. The Sikanderpur resident said her parents always ask her to follow the rules. "All parents should encourage their children," she added. For Surender Gahlot, son of a BJP functionary, leaving early to reach one's destination in time does the trick. "It helps avoid speeding," he said. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Client services for client state: Trump's reset with Pak is marked by a transactional, short-horizon foreign policy

ADVERTISEMENT ADVERTISEMENT ADVERTISEMENT Our forefathers believed that we were different from Hindus in every possible aspect of life. Our religion is different. Our customs are different. Our traditions are different. Our thoughts are different. Our ambitions are different.… That was the foundation of the Two-Nation Theory. It was laid on the belief that we are two nations, not one.'That was Pakistan Army chief Gen — now Field Marshal — Asim Munir speaking at the Convention for Overseas Pakistanis in Islamabad on April 17. Less than a week later in Pahalgam , Pakistani terrorists killed 1 Christian and 24 Hindu tourists, as well as a local Muslim who resisted the assailants, after the killers established their victims' religious identities.A link between Munir's rant and the Pahalgam massacre is a possibility. But the rage in India in response to the attack went far beyond what Pakistan had expected. Perhaps it had assessed that India would do what it had done after the 2016 Uri attack when 18 Indian soldiers were killed. Or, in response to the 2019 Pulwama suicide bombing, which killed 41 Indian paramilitary soldiers. On both earlier occasions, India had reacted with one-off counterattacks in POK and Balakot. Rawalpindi probably expected a similar reaction time, the storyline changed. India's counter, launched on May 7, forced the Pakistani DGMO to speak to his Indian counterpart on May 10, and seek a ceasefire. The world is now aware of what transpired between May 7 and 10, although many would not want to talk about it. Suppliers of military equipment to Pakistan — the US, China, and Turkey — will probably be reevaluating their equipment that succumbed to Indian, Russian and French the Americans got into the act, mostly to save their major non-Nato ally. The resounding success of the Indian response had taken them aback. One wondered about the urgency of Trump 's self-described 'intervention' to stop matters escalating on the India-Pak front when the Ukraine war and IsraelHamas conflict — or even the Houthi battles in Yemen — have been allowed to last for years. Indian denials about US intervention have been ignored by the Americans. The Pakistanis, of course, eagerly accepted this anxiety seems to centre around India's destruction of Pakistan's Nur Khan airbase. Remember, according to Pakistani journalist and security expert Imtiaz Gul, the base is 'under American control', where even senior Pakistan Army officers are not allowed to has been extremely useful to the US. Its defence minister Khawaja Asif asserted that they had been fighting America's dirty wars for 30-odd years. From a strategic perspective, it's well-known that the US has been helping Pakistan to keep India 'occupied', while they get a geographic toehold near Iran and China. Both China and the US would like to have total control over Pakistan, to have a base looking at their interests to the east and economic rise, its decisions to choose its sourcing and look after its own interests, cause concern to the US. India tends to get under its skin, as its commerce secretary Howard Lutnick grumbled recently. Which is why the restart of the old game of hyphenating India and Pakistan, ignoring Indian sensitivities, while propping up these decisions may have been made earlier, announcements of $1 bn to Pakistan by IMF, $40 bn by World Bank, and another $800 mn during Operation Sindoor were bad optics. The latest signallings include inviting Munir to attend the 250th US Army Day celebrations in Washington on June 14 — which also happens to be Trump's 79th birthday. Undoubtedly, Munir will meet officials from the State Department and Pentagon, and get promises for military Central Command commander Michael E Kurilla, testifying before the House Armed Services Committee in Washington earlier this week, described Pakistan as a 'phenomenal partner' in anti-terrorism operations. He emphasised the need for the US to maintain relationships with both India and Pakistan, stating that he didn't 'believe it is a binary switch that we can't have one with Pakistan if we have a relationship with India'. In that case, the US shouldn't have a problem with India's relations with Russia and the a matter of conjecture if this US-Pak partnership is about Iran, Central Asia or even India. Pakistan is looking at buying 40 more Chinese J-35A stealth fighter aircraft, a rival of the US F-35, with a listed price of $9 bn, but on offer at 50% the value. This will mean that 80% of Pakistan's military purchases will be from China. Pakistan's debt to China, including CPEC, already amounts to nearly $70 April 26, World Liberty Financial (WLF) agreed to help build Pakistan's blockchain infrastructure, promote stablecoin-based remittances, and tokenise real-world assets. The agreement seeks to position Pakistan as a crypto-forward nation. Eric Trump, the president's son, is associated with WLF, whose executives met Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif as well as Munir. Enough such conditions, India should be prepared for Pahalgam-style attacks in the future, while expecting no assistance from China, and ambivalence from the US.

Ex-min accuses CM of colluding with BJP in LS polls

1 2 Hyderabad: Former minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy on Thursday launched a scathing attack on both the Congress and BJP, alleging a covert alliance between the two parties in Telangana . He went a step further, accusing chief minister A Revanth Reddy of directly aiding the BJP's victory in eight Lok Sabha seats during the 2024 elections. Speaking at a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Prashanth Reddy dismissed the CM's claims that both Union minister G Kishan Reddy and BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao were obstructing the state's development. Instead, he alleged that it was Revanth himself who was undermining the Congress and facilitating the BJP's rise. "Even the BJP is protecting Revanth. Not a single ED or IT raid has been conducted against Congress leaders in Telangana," he remarked. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
