Bengaluru flier lauds Kannada announcement on flight from Paris: 'Warm welcome home'
A Bengaluru-based flier recently took to social media to express his pleasant surprise after hearing in-flight announcements in Kannada, alongside French and English, during boarding on a flight from Paris to Bengaluru.
The post, shared on X (formerly Twitter), quickly drew attention and stirred conversations around linguistic representation in air travel.
'I recently traveled with Air France from Paris to Bengaluru! To my surprise, they made announcements in Kannada, French, and English when we boarded in Paris! Such a warm welcome before I reached home,' the flier wrote. He thanked the airline for 'recognizing one of the oldest regional languages of the Indian Union and upholding diversity.'

While the post received appreciation from several users, it also sparked a broader debate about language use in Indian aviation.
One user tagged the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), urging, 'Please ensure all Indian airlines follow this model in their respective state languages and don't push Hindi in its place.'
Another commented, 'It is common sense to know international airlines do announcements in the specific regional language while touching down at that specific location in India.'
However, not all reactions were positive. One critic responded sharply, saying they had flown internationally for nearly 30 years and had never once heard Kannada used by any Indian airline, accusing the original poster of being "among the enemies of Kannadigas."
Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has introduced a Kannada language option on its official website to improve accessibility and better connect with the people of Karnataka.
In a press release issued on Monday, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) said the new feature would help travellers access airport services more easily and comfortably in their native language.
'We are pleased to introduce a Kannada version of our website that aims to create a more inclusive and accessible experience, ensuring our customers access all necessary information in their preferred language,' said Hari Marar, Managing Director and CEO of BIAL.

Dharwad: The state govt is committed ensure employment to Kannadigas in industrial sector and it has brought in a new policy regulating the industries setting up their units in Karnataka to reserve jobs for Kannadigas, said industries minister MB Patil. Patil stated that the Global Investors' Meet has been a success. It attracted proposals worth Rs 10 lakh crore. "We expect at least 70% of these proposals turn into a reality and the department is constantly following up with the companies", he added. The govt, in a bid to correct regional imbalance and facilitate setting up of industries in tier-two cities, has launched 'Beyond Bengaluru' scheme. Therefore, there will be industrial boom in North Karnataka very soon, he added. On FMCG cluster in Hubballi-Dharwad, Patil acknowledged that the land prices have shot up and the govt has nothing to do with it. Many farmers whose lands were identified for acquisition have moved to the courts seeking better compensation. Based on the verdicts of the courts on compensation, the KIADB has fixed the final price. However, the department is in constant touch with firms willing to set up FMCG units, he added. It will generate 800 direct and 900 indirect employment thus supporting 3,000 families. The company which manufactures batteries and convertors in collaboration with Japan and France has plans to expand its operation and will generate over 4,000 employment in next two years, he said. The product will be exported to US and other countries.

Nidec launches Rs 600cr manufacturing plant in Dharwad
Dharwad: Nidec, a global leader in data centre equipment manufacturing, has set up a new plant with an investment of Rs 600 crore at the Beluru Industrial Area in Dharwad. The facility was officially launched by minister for large and medium industries, MB Patil. Speaking at the event, Patil said the new plant, which creates 800 direct jobs, will cater to the growing demand across sectors such as electric vehicles, data centres, renewable energy, battery storage, and general industries. "This unit will bolster local manufacturing, enhance R&D capabilities, and improve supply chain reliability," he said. The plant will manufacture heavy-duty machines of 2MW, 3MW, and 4MW capacity, essential for data centres, using advanced technology from Japan and France. These machines will be exported to markets in the US, the UAE, and Europe, alongside serving the domestic market. "While the facility has initially generated 800 direct jobs, the number is expected to rise to around 3,000 once the plant becomes fully operational," Patil informed. He also mentioned that 20 acres of land has been allocated for the company's battery solutions unit. In addition to heavy machinery, the plant will also produce power backup generators, wind generators, alternators for data centre, EV motors for three wheelers, four wheelers, trucks, elevator motors, and electronic drives-MV and LV. "For Nidec's project, we ensured timely facilitation by allotting the required land within just two years," he added. Addressing concerns about water usage, the minister clarified, "The Krishna River water tribunal has allocated 4 tmc of water for industrial purposes, of which, we are currently using only 0.5 tmc. We are not diverting water meant for agriculture. Moreover, the industries are provided only downstream water from the Hidkal Dam." He further emphasised the importance of balancing industrial development with agricultural interests. "While acquiring land for industrial purposes, fair compensation must be ensured for farmers. A healthy balance between agriculture and industry is vital," Patil noted.
