Jamshedpur FC march into Kalinga Super Cup quarter-finals
Bhubaneswar, Apr 25 (UNI) Jamshedpur FC continued their strong run of form with a commanding 2-0 win over Hyderabad FC in their Round of 16 encounter of the 2025 Kalinga Super Cup, held at the Kalinga Stadium here.
Goals from Javier Siverio (39' p) and Stephen Eze (64') ensured a comfortable passage for the Men of Steel on Thursday night, who will now face NorthEast United in the quarter-finals.
Having finished fifth in the Indian Super League (ISL) table and narrowly missing out on the final after a semi-final loss to Mohun Bagan SG, Jamshedpur entered the tournament with high expectations and looked the more composed and purposeful side throughout the match.
In contrast, Hyderabad FC, who endured a torrid ISL campaign and finishing 12th, came into the game as clear underdogs.
The game began on a quiet note, with both sides tentative in the opening exchanges. Hyderabad were content to sit deep, while Jamshedpur tried to establish control. As the minutes ticked by, the trio of Jordan Murray, Javier Hernandez, and Javier Siverio began to combine effectively, steadily putting pressure on the Hyderabad backline.
Despite enjoying the lion's share of possession, Jamshedpur initially struggled to create clear openings, with Hyderabad defending in numbers and closing down space effectively.
However, the deadlock was finally broken in the 39th minute following a well-constructed move.
Eze sent a pinpoint ball into the box for Ashutosh Mehta, who made a surging run down the right.
As Mehta attempted to control the ball, he was brought down by Manoj Mohammad, prompting the referee to award a penalty.
Siverio stepped up and calmly slotted the ball past Arshdeep Singh, sending the Hyderabad keeper the wrong way to give Jamshedpur a deserved lead heading into the break. Just before half-time, Jamshedpur nearly added a second from a free-kick, but Hyderabad's defenders held firm with
some brave last-ditch defending.
Hyderabad made a few changes in the second half in an attempt to wrest back control, but the momentum remained firmly with Jamshedpur. The Men of Steel continued to control the midfield
and showed great discipline in defence, rarely allowing Hyderabad a chance to get into dangerous areas.
The result was sealed in the 64th minute when Jordan Murray, who had been a constant menace, charged into the box and laid the ball off for Stephen Eze. The towering defender made no mistake from close range, tapping home to double Jamshedpur's lead.
From then on, it was smooth sailing for Jamshedpur, who managed the game effectively and kept Hyderabad at bay with relative ease. Hyderabad's attempts to create a late spark were snuffed out
by a well-organised Jamshedpur defence, and the match ended in a comfortable 2-0 win for Khalid Jamil's men.

Naushad Moosa is coaching the India under-23 team Panaji: Naushad Moosa has returned as head coach of the India under-23 squad. This time, he has been handed a longer rope, stretching a year, and tasked with preparing the team for next year's Asian Games and the AFC U-23 Asian Cup, qualifiers for which will be held in September. Last year, Moosa, assistant to Juan Pedro at NorthEast United, was in charge of the under-23 team for two friendlies against Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. 'The longer contract helps me understand the players better,' Moosa told TOI in a recent interview. 'I spoke with the AIFF and told them it's important to have longer camps as well, so that we can properly assess the players and opponents. I want to bring the best out of these players. Getting them to gel together, though, will be a challenge.' Moosa, a former international who played for India between 1994 and 1998 and won the SAFF Championship in 1997, has named a 29-member probable squad for the two friendlies in Dushanbe against Tajikistan and Kyrgyz Republic, later this month. A concern for Moosa is that a majority of players are with ISL clubs. Many of them are without enough playing time in the top tier of Indian football. 'The younger under-19 players, all of them want to play for ISL clubs. My advice is don't jump (straightway) into the ISL. Of course, you should try, but only a few make it to the top. The youngsters can sign for clubs where they get to play. At this age, it's important for them to be playing competitive matches. Sitting on the bench for financially-rich clubs doesn't really help in their growth as players,' said Moosa. 'The younger players in the ISL are not getting enough opportunities. There are a lot of promising players in the I-League who we will track,' added Moosa. From amongst the 29 probables, only a handful have featured regularly for their teams in the ISL. Just one among them, Vibin Mohanan, has a senior team appearance, though Ayush Chhetri, Abhishek Singh and Suhail Bhat, all aged below 23, are currently under Manolo Marquez with the national team. Mohammed Sanan, Nikhil Barla (both Jamshedpur), Korou Singh, Bikash Yumnam (both Kerala Blasters), Macarton Louis Nickson, Parthib Gogoi (both NorthEast United) and Dipendu Biswas (Mohun Bagan) are the more recognisable names among the under-23 probables. Only two players -- Rahul Raju (Gokulam Kerala) and Mohammad Arbaz (Real Kashmir) – are doing duty in the I-League, the second tier tournament. 'We need to have more camps, more exposure matches. If we cannot travel abroad, we can play here, but with stronger opponents. Losing is not a problem. It's important we play stronger opponents to prepare for the challenges. Our aim should not be to win SAFF. We must look at the bigger stage where we will be properly judged,' said Moosa. India U-23 will face Tajikistan and Kyrgyz Republic in two friendlies on June 18 and June 21 as part of the AIFF's long-term plans to smoothen a pathway to the senior national team. The team is in Kolkata where they will train before setting off for Dushanbe on June 16.

FDI tunes into media: Q4 funding doubles with big bets on news, OTT, and football flair
Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the information and broadcasting (I&B) sector, including print media, nearly doubled in the fourth quarter of FY25, though it slipped 14% for the full financial year, latest data from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade ( DPIIT ) showed. The I&B sector attracted FDI worth ₹1,221 crore in Q4, compared to ₹621 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal. For the full year, FDI fell to ₹6,007 crore in FY25 from ₹7,012 crore a year earlier. Inshorts India Advertising and Services received a fund infusion of ₹920 crore from its parent entity Inshorts, under the Reserve Bank of India's automatic route in Q4. The company, which operates online news aggregator InShorts, reported a net loss of ₹228 crore on an operating income of ₹181 crore in FY24. TV production company Balaji Telefilms received over ₹40 crore in FDI from investors including Gothic Corporation, The Duke Endowment, Gothic HSP Corporation, and the Employees Retirement Plan of Duke University, under the automatic route. In December 2024, Balaji Telefilms raised ₹131 crore through a preferential issue of equity shares to eight selected investors, including its promoter Ekta Kapoor, as well as Gothic Corporation, The Duke Endowment, Gothic HSP Corporation, and the Employees Retirement Plan of Duke University. Stage Technologies , which owns the STAGE OTT platform, raised ₹5.5 crore in FDI from NB Ventures and Manoj Sadhuram Shivnani, also via the automatic route. Jose Luis Espinosa Arroyo pens Contract extension with Mumbai City
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 2 (ANI): Mumbai City on Monday announced that Spanish centre-back Jose Luis Espinosa Arroyo (Tiri) has signed a contract extension, keeping him with the Islanders until May 31, 2026. The upcoming season will mark the 33-year-old's tenth in the Indian Super League, the most for any foreign player. Tiri initially joined Mumbai City in the 2023-24 season and has since made 49 appearances for the club. Most recently, he featured in 21 matches during the 2024-25 Indian Super League campaign, contributing to nine clean sheets, 33 interceptions, and 84 recoveries, serving as a pillar of the Islanders' defence. Tiri began his football career with his hometown side, Cadiz CF, competing in the Spanish divisions. He later moved to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, where he played for their B team for three years. The Spanish defender arrived in India in 2015 and went on to become only the second international player to make 150 appearances in the Indian Super League. As a heartfelt tribute, Tiri will now wear the name Rubio on the back of his jersey in memory of his late father.
