
Bank Islam, FAM refresh pact to drive national football development
This includes joint marketing initiatives and continuation of the Team Harimau co-branded debit Card-i programme.
Bank Islam group chief business officer of retail banking Mizan Masram said it hopes that the issuance of the debit Card-i will drive the adoption of digital banking and electronic payments.
"Bank Islam is truly grateful to FAM for the trust placed in us and agreeing to extend this strategic collaboration.
"This partnership reflects our commitment to fostering the spirit of sportsmanship and strengthening support for a team that carries the nation's hopes," said Mizan.
Under the signed agreement, Bank Islam will organise activation programmes both digitally and on-site at events involving FAM.
The bank said these include the opening of special booths on match days, joint branding activities, social media content and fan engagement contests.
"This collaboration also offers supporters of the national football squad, Harimau Malaya, the opportunity to own a specially designed card as a way to express their support for the team, while enjoying various benefits, including ATM withdrawals and electronic payments for local and international purchases.
"For every issuance, annual and replacement fee of the Team Harimau Debit Card-i, RM2 will be channelled to FAM in support of nurturing young talents and the development of football programmes in Malaysia," it added.
To date, the Team Harimau Debit Card-i has recorded over two million users in the market.

i-Mesra platform supports halal certification, says deputy minister
KUALA LUMPUR: The i-Mesra digital platform, designed as a pre-halal reference for entrepreneurs under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKDW), does not conflict with the Malaysian Halal Certification issued by JAKIM, said Deputy Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang. She explained that the platform serves as a facilitator, integrating JAKIM's guidelines to align with federal halal certification procedures. 'The i-Mesra system incorporates JAKIM's requirements, ensuring most KKDW products meet halal certification standards,' she told reporters after launching i-Mesra at the 2025 Mega 3D Carnival (MK3D 2025). When asked about Selangor's rejection of i-Mesra, Rubiah stated that KKDW respects the decision but remains open to discussions. 'Selangor's preference for an alternative system is not an issue. Our priority is providing entrepreneurs with a tool to speed up halal certification,' she added. KKDW adopted i-Mesra after its introduction by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, finding it user-friendly for entrepreneurs. Last week, reports indicated Selangor refused i-Mesra as a halal verification platform, citing better alternatives. Earlier, Rubiah witnessed a cooperation agreement between Ketengah and Koperasi Peserta-Peserta Felcra Malaysia Berhad. She also received a Malaysia Book of Records certificate for MK3D 2025 as the Largest Entrepreneurship Fair. Nvidia is a world-leading producer of AI semiconductors, but the United States effectively restricts which chips it can export to China on national security grounds. A key issue has been Chinese access to the "H20", a less powerful version of Nvidia's AI processing units that the company developed specifically for export to China. The California-based firm said this month it would resume H20 sales to China after Washington pledged to remove licensing curbs that had halted exports. But the firm still faces obstacles – US lawmakers have proposed plans to require Nvidia and other manufacturers of advanced AI chips to include built-in location tracking capabilities. And Beijing's top internet regulator said Thursday it had summoned Nvidia representatives to discuss recently discovered "serious security issues" involving the H20. The Cyberspace Administration of China said it had asked Nvidia to "explain the security risks of vulnerabilities and backdoors in its H20 chips sold to China and submit relevant supporting materials". The statement posted on social media noted that, according to US experts, location tracking and remote shutdown technologies for Nvidia chips "are already matured". The announcement marked the latest complication for Nvidia in selling its advanced products in the key Chinese market, where it is in increasingly fierce competition with homegrown technology firms. Nvidia committed CEO Jensen Huang said during a closely watched visit to Beijing this month that his firm remained committed to serving local customers. Huang said he had been assured during talks with top Chinese officials during the trip that the country was "open and stable". "They want to know that Nvidia continues to invest here, that we are still doing our best to serve the market here," he said. Nvidia this month became the first company to hit $4 trillion in market value – a new milestone in Wall Street's bet that AI will transform the global economy. Jost Wubbeke of the Sinolytics consultancy told AFP the move by China to summon Nvidia was "not surprising in the sense that targeting individual US companies has become a common tool in the context of US-China tensions". "What is surprising, however, is the timing," he noted, after the two countries agreed to further talks to extend their trade truce. "China's action may signal a shift toward a more assertive stance," Wubbeke said. Beijing is also aiming to reduce reliance on foreign tech by promoting Huawei's domestically developed 910C chip as an alternative to the H20, he added. "From that perspective, the US decision to allow renewed exports of the H20 to China could be seen as counterproductive, as it might tempt Chinese hyperscalers to revert to the H20, potentially undermining momentum behind the 910C and other domestic alternatives." New hurdles to Nvidia's operation in China come as the country's economy wavers, beset by a years-long property sector crisis and heightened trade headwinds under US President Donald Trump. Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for the country to enhance self-reliance in certain areas deemed vital for national security – including AI and semiconductors – as tensions with Washington mount. KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) said Kelantan Red Warrior (KRW) should have done their homework to avoid "being booked" by FIFA. The status of the A1 Semi Pro League side is now in question due to their link with Kelantan FC. KRW have insisted they are a new and separate club, not an offshoot of Kelantan FC. However, FIFA is holding KRW accountable for Kelantan FC's non-payment of salaries to players, KRW replied to FIFA last Saturday, in response to a show-cause letter from the world body. Under FIFA's "sporting succession rule", sanctions can be imposed on new clubs deemed to have inherited the obligations of their predecessors. FAM secretary-general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman said KRW should have done a thorough check, and this includes avoiding the use of names, logos, or identity elements that could cause confusion. "They should have researched before signing players and everything. But when it reaches this point... we are forced to intervene. "I was informed that their CEO had told the team to avoid using the (previous team's) logo. But I'm not sure. That's between the AFL (Amateur Football League) and the team," said Noor Azman at a press conference today after a sponsorship renewal ceremony between FAM and Kronos.
