PSL to be without DRS for remainder of season as technicians not expected return to Pakistan: Report
The 2025 season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) could be without a fully functioning Decision Review System (DRS) for the remainder of the season, including the final. According to PTI, the technicians who handle the Hawkeye and other DRS systems are not expected to return to Pakistan following the country's recent conflict with India. The PSL was suspended as tensions escalated and is now scheduled to end on May 25, with two more playoffs yet to be played.
DRS hasn't featured in the league since its resumption on May 17. This includes the first qualifier in which Quetta Gladiators beat Islamabad United by 30 runs to go through to the final. Karachi Kings now play Lahore Qalandars in the Eliminator on May 22 after which the second qualifier will be played on Friday.
According to PTI, the team which manages and runs the Hawkeye and DRS technology comprised mainly of Indian nationals. After the league was suspended due to the conflict, the Indian nationals working for the broadcaster had left for home and had not returned because of the tense situation. The PCB tried to organise the remainder of the PSL in UAE but the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) declined the proposal.
The franchises have also faced issues replacing overseas players, some of whom opted to leave for the IPL, including Mitchell Owens and Kusal Mendis among others. On Thursday, the Islamabad United side, which has to play in the eliminator 2 on Friday, suffered a big blow as their opener, England's Alex Hales also flew back home. The league's rescheduling has also had an effect on Pakistan's international calendar. The PSL final was originally scheduled for May 18 and Pakistan's T20I series against Bangladesh would've then started on May 25. The series is now set to start on May 28. Additionally, the number of matches in the series has been reduced to three from the original five.

After the BCCI released photos of Gill and other members of the Indian team sporting the new kits, netizens zoomed in to find the word Prince written on Gill's bat. The Prince moniker was given to Gill as he was considered a superstar in the making but to use that in his bat sticker did not sit well with a section of fans. HT could not confirm whether it was Gill's decision or MRF's to use Prince along with Genius in the bat sticker but it definitely attracted eyeballs. More so because Sachin Tendulkar never used 'God' on his nat sticker despite being fondly called by fans. Neither did Virat Kohli put King on his bat sticker. The same with AB de Villiers and Brian Lara. In fact, Lara was the first to be known as a Prince in cricket. Notably, the word Prince is not new in Gill's bat sticker. It was first introduced in the middle of the IPL but only came to prominence after Gill replaced Rohit Sharma as India's new Test captain. In his first address as captain, Gill urged his players to "find out their game" and play "every ball with purpose". "Let us make each and every net session meaningful and let us prepare like that and let us put ourselves under a little bit of pressure when we are going out there. It is not about going out there and surviving. Let us try to find out our game, how we are going to play when we are put under pressure, whether it be bowlers or batsmen. And let is make the practise match and each and every net very meaningful and let us play every ball with purpose," he concluded. The series will be held from June to August 2025, with matches scheduled at Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord's and The Oval in London, and Old Trafford in Manchester.
