"Missing 3 Most Experienced...": Gautam Gambhir's Blunt 'Kohli, Rohit, Ashwin' Reminder
India coach Gautam Gambhir set expectations clearly from the Shubman Gill -led team as they prepare for the 5-match Test assignment against England. With the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin retired, the Indian team has a tough task ahead of them. England hasn't been a happy hunting ground for the men from the subcontinent, but the challenges this time are multifold. Gambhir, however, wants the new crop of players to focus on the opportunity they have at hand, over the people they are missing.
In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Gambhir gave his players two options - either look at the fact that the team is missing three of its most experienced players, or the opportunity of doing something special.
"There are two ways of looking at this. One is that we are without are three most experienced players (Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin), or we have a phenomenal opportunity to do something special for the country. When I look around this group, I think there's hunger, passion, and the commitment to do something special. If we make sacrifices, if we come out of our comfort zones, if we start fighting, not every day, but every session, every hour, every ball, I think we can have a memorable tour. Make sure we start that from today only. We start enjoying playing for the country because there's no bigger honour," Gambhir said in the huddle.

Both Virat and Rohit retired from Test cricket in the middle of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, just days before the Ajit Agarkar -led selection committee was to pick the squad for the England tour. It isn't yet known what was communicated to them by the BCCI and the selectors, which prompted the sudden retirement call.
As for Ashwin, he decided to quit international cricket altogether during the Australia tour, having understood that he is no longer a certainty in India's Test team.

2 arrested for taking ₹24 lakh from youngster promising selection in IPL team
Belagavi police arrested two persons from Uttar Pradesh on the charge of defrauding a young cricketer from Belagavi. Susanjan and Diwakar, both around 25, were arrested from their hometown in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. This followed a long and detailed investigation by the Belagavi police. They face charges of collecting over ₹24 lakh from the family of Rakesh Yadure of Chinchani near Chikkodi. They had lied to the young sportsperson's family that they would get him selected to the Rajasthan Royals IPL cricket team. The boy comes from a humble background. His father, a security guard, took loans to pay the conmen. Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar S. Guled told reporters in Belagavi on June 12 that Susanjan had previously cheated two others using a similar modus operandi, while Diwakar appeared to be a first-time offender. Mr. Yadure, 19, had excelled in a cricket match in Hyderabad in May 2024. He posted photos and videos of the match on Instagram. The fraudsters, claiming to be selectors from the IPL team, sent him friend requests, and said he was under consideration. In December 2024, Mr. Yadure received a message claiming he had been shortlisted for the IPL team. The message included a link to a 'registration form' and requested an initial payment of ₹2,000. Over the next few months — between December 22, 2024, and April 19, 2025 — Mr. Yadure's father made multiple payments totalling ₹23.53 lakh. The duo promised fees ranging from ₹40,000 to ₹8 lakh per match. The cricketer's family filed a complaint with the Cyber, Economic, and Narcotics (CEN) Police Station on May 17 this year. Dr. Guled advised people, especially the youth, to be cautious of such scams. 'We urge citizens, especially youngsters, not to fall for online claims of sports selection, jobs, or cash rewards. Always verify such claims,' he said.

New Zealand Star Finn Allen, Who Went Unsold At IPL 2025 Auction, Breaks Chris Gayle's World Record
New Zealand's swashbuckling batter Finn Allen broke multiple records in the opening game of Major League Cricket 2025 - a franchise-based T20 competition in the United States. Playing for San Francisco Unicorns against the Washington Freedom at the Oakland Coliseum on Friday, Allen went berserk and scored 151 runs off just 51 balls. His innings had a strike rate of over 296. The batter slammed five fours and 19 sixes during the terrific knock that was nothing less than a nightmare for the Washington Freedom bowlers. During the knock, Allen broke the record for the fastest 150 in T20 cricket. He reached the milestone in 49 balls. The right-handed batter smashed his ton in 34 balls, which turned out to be the fastest T20 hundred by a Kiwi batter and also the quickest in the tournament's history. Allen also broke the record of Chris Gayle and Estonia's Sahil Chauhan by hitting the most sixes in a men's T20 innings. While Gayle and Chauhan had hit 18 each, Allen surpassed both of them with a tally of 19. The boundaries are fairly decent," said the Kiwi batter after his fiery knock. Interestingly, just six months ago, Allen found no bidders at the Indian Premier League auction table. With a base price of Rs 2 crore, the New Zealand batter went unsold in IPL 2025 action that was held in November last year. In the same auction, India's wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant became the costliest player in the tournament's history. He was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore. Following him was Shreyas Iyer, who was signed by Punjab Kings for a whopping sum of Rs 26.75 crore. The bidding war also saw Venkatesh Iyer being retained by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 23.75 crore.
