Zendaya's stylist reacts to her viral Met Gala twinning moment
Zendaya stunned at the Met Gala in her bridal take on this year's theme, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' but she wasn't the only one to show up to the event in a sleek white suit.
Japanese actor Anna Sawai (' Shogun ') arrived at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday, May 5, in a strikingly similar look to Zendaya's three-piece Louis Vuitton number. Though Sawai's outfit was Dior, it featured the same style of blazer, wide-brimmed hat, button-up shirt and tie as the Oakland native. One of the only notable differences between the two ensembles were the stars' pants — while Zendaya's were flared at the bottom, Sawai's were wide.
Zendaya's longtime stylist and friend, Law Roach, was in the middle of an interview with HelloBeautiful when Sawai hit the carpet and was visibly shocked when he caught a glimpse of her.
'I am dying 'cause she's got on Zendaya's look,' he said in a clip of the interview shared to TikTok. At that point distracted from the conversation, he could be seen smiling but rolling his eyes. 'I'm so glad we came early.'
The twinning moment and the clip of Roach has since gone viral on social media, with many offering up their own opinions and commentary.
'Anna Sawai making history as the first celebrity to accidentally have an identical fit as Zendaya in the same event,' @meltborne quipped on X.
X user @13_Gems_17 opined that 'Zendaya definitely pulled off the suit better, while Anna pulls off the hat better.'
This year's Met Gala theme is also the name of the Met's Costume Institute spring exhibition, which explored the history of Black style and dandyism.
The 'Euphoria' star's outfit is believed to have been referencing both Bianca Jagger's Yves Saint Laurent wedding skirt suit from the '70s and Diana Ross' character in the 1975 Berry Gordy film 'Mahogany.' While Roach confirmed the former on Instagram, Zendaya herself seemed to suggest the latter in her remark, 'She's the reference,' when Ross walked past her on the blue carpet.
Zendaya is engaged to her 'Spider-Man' co-star Tom Holland and, while neither actor has spoken publicly about the development, she has flashed her engagement ring at a number of events since debuting it at the Golden Globe Awards in January. On Monday night, it served as one of a few subtle accessories to complete her look.
While Zendaya is a Met Gala veteran, having attended since 2015 and served as co-chair last year, this year marked Sawwai's first. Luckily, there doesn't seem to be any bad blood between the two stars over the nearly identical looks.
'We can add homage to @zendaya as well,' Welch posted on her story along with a photo of the Emmy winner's look.
A few posts later, she wrote 'Great minds,' over a black screen, tagging Roach.

The relationship between the two was on display Wednesday night in Harlem's Apollo Theater, where Davis received both a lifetime achievement award and a spot on the theater's walk of fame. Davis was honored with the Legacy Award at the Apollo's annual spring benefit, which raised over $5 million that will go to both renovating the theater and expanding its footprint in Harlem. "After 91 years, anyone, especially this great theater, deserves a modernization," Davis, 92, tells USA TODAY before a star-studded event June 4 that included performances from Method Man, Deborah Cox, Shoshana Bean and Busta Rhymes. "I can't wait to see the new Apollo Theater." The theater's facelift will include new seats, an expanded lobby and a retooling of its iconic marquee. Since 1914, the Apollo has served as both an anchor of the Harlem community and a beacon of Black culture. Performances from Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown and Michael Jackson along with comedians such as Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx have all contributed to the venue's legacy. "I'm deeply concerned about the way culture is being held back by those people in power. So our hope that the liberty that we have to express our culture is not curtailed by people in power."

Sylvia Rhone, Ciara & More Honored at Inaugural Black Women in Music Dinner
Epic Records chairwoman/CEO Sylvia Rhone being presented with the Vanguard Award was one of several highlights that took place during the inaugural Black Women in Music dinner, held Tuesday evening (June 3) at the Audrey Irmas Pavilion in Los Angeles. The Black Music Month fete also honored Grammy-winning artist Ciara, music executive Phylicia Fant, creative director/costume designer June Ambrose, media personality DJ Kiss and photographer/photojournalist Florence 'FLO' Ngala. Celebrating the global impact of Black women in the music industry, the dinner also served as the first fundraiser for its presenter, The Connie Orlando Foundation, which supports breast cancer prevention, care and research in Black communities. Grammy-nominated artist Normani presented the Avant Garde Award to Ciara, saluting the Grammy-winning singer/songwriter/entrepreneur as 'the blueprint for leveling up.' Emmy-winning actress Niecy Nash stepped onstage to honor hip-hop and R&B style pioneer Ambrose with the Guardian of Vision Award. 'She taught hip-hop how to wear its crown — and how to do it in a fresh pair of heels,' Nash remarked. Citing Black Women in Music as a 'platform to reshape narratives around Black artistry and leadership,' Clarke Soares further commented, 'At HarbourView, we believe artists deserve more than just a seat at the table. They deserve ownership of their stories and the freedom to build their own.' In thanking the audience as well as the evening's supporters and sponsors, Orlando addressed the call to action needed to fight the breast cancer crisis affecting the Black community. 'It is a privilege for me to curate this event to give these extraordinary women their flowers, to shine a light on how vital they've been to global culture and to just say, 'Thank You,'' added Orlando who is also exec. vp/head of specials, music programming and music strategy at BET. The inaugural Black Women in Music dinner/fundraiser was hosted by actress and comedian Zainab Johnson with performances by Giveon, Alex Isley and YULI. Hip-hop icon MC Lyte voiced the tribute videos, while DJ Midi Riperton provided afterparty entertainment. According to a report from Deadline on Monday (May 12), Madonna has teamed up with Deadpool & Wolverine producer Shawn Levy to develop a limited series based on her life and career for Netflix. Levy's production company 21 Laps currently has an exclusive deal with Netflix. The new project is apparently not related to a much-discussed and since-delayed feature film based on Madonna's life. The project, which was being developed by Universal Pictures and set to star Ozark and Inventing Anna actress Julia Garner as the pop superstar, was put on an indefinite hold in 2023 as Madonna embarked on her Celebration World Tour. In 2024, however, Madonna sparked rumors that the film might be back in the works, when she shared a since-deleted photo of herself sitting at a typewriter working on a screenplay titled Who's That Girl — an apparent nod to her 1987 film and song of the same name. Still, Madonna herself floated the idea of creating a TV series about her life in November of last year, claiming that a number of 'producers and agents' told her that she wouldn't be able to make her film the way she wanted to. 'Downsize-down scale-think smaller-they say—I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged,' she wrote in a since-removed post, before asking her fans if they would prefer to see her story adapted into 'a series or a feature film.'
