Franco-Tunisian film and TV entrepreneur will be celebrated by Variety with its International Achievement in Film Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
An infallible dealmaker, resourceful problem-solver and filmmaker-friendly bon vivant, Ammar has played a pivotal, yet often behind-the-scenes role, in building cultural and cinematic bridges between Europe, the U.S. and the Arab world over the last 50 years.

Ammar, whose Eagle Pictures is currently Italy's top independent film distributor and a growing production force, also owns France's Studios de Paris, home of 'Emily in Paris,' and is active in Saudi Arabia where he recently launched a film fund.
Ammar began his career in Italy and Tunisia in the late 1960s. He quickly became an ally to iconic filmmakers such as Roberto Rossellini, Georges Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Franco Zeffirelli. He opened the doors of Tunisia to the film world, helping build an industry there from scratch while facilitating the productions of films sush as 'Star Wars,' 'Raiders of the Lost Ark,' 'Jesus of Nazareth' and 'La Traviata,' among others. After moving to France, Ammar in 2007 returned to his film roots and bought Italian indie distributor Eagle Pictures which has since then become his flagship film outfit and is Paramount and Sony's Italian theatrical distributor.
On the indie production side Eagle scored Italy's biggest local hit of 2024 with Margherita Ferri's teen drama 'The Boy With Pink Trousers,' about a 15-year-old who took his own life after enduring bullying at school and online. In terms of ticket sales, it's even beat Hollywood heavyweights such as 'Wicked,' 'Dune 2,' 'Gladiator 2' and 'Venom 3.'
'Tarak has been a passionate supporter and champion of independent films,' said Variety's Co-Editor-in-Chief Ramin Setoodeh. 'He is truly deserving of this honor and Variety looks forward to toasting him in Cannes.
Ammar will be honored by Variety on May 15 at 4pm at the Majestic Hotel, Salon Croisette.

Beckham scores a winner with the royal circle

David Beckham looks set to be awarded a knighthood in the King's Birthday Honours, but the ex-footballer has already become a very visible part of the royal circle. It can feel sometimes, in football terms, as if Beckham has been man-marking the royals, as he's become an ever-present at royal occasions. The Chelsea Flower Show, a Buckingham Palace state banquet, an Italian dinner at Highgrove, charity events, have all seen the Beckhams in the line-up of guests to meet the royals. Last month, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, wore a dress designed by Victoria Beckham at a British Fashion Council event. There is an independent honours committee that considers who should get awards such as knighthoods, rather than the royals. But if he becomes "Sir David", the ceremony won't be the first time he'll have met the royals. There is already a close relationship. At the recent Chelsea Flower Show, a conversation between the King and Queen and Beckham seemed to hint at birthday gifts being exchanged. "Nice to see you again, glad you got the roses," Queen Camilla seemed to be saying about this flowering relationship. It's not just roses he's cultivating, as David Beckham has some new shared passions with the royals, a long way from his days as a footballer. He swapped "bee-keeping tips" with King Charles at a meeting at his Highgrove Estate in Gloucestershire last year. Beckham set to be awarded knighthood Rugby league anger at no knighthoods in 130 years 'East End boy' Beckham helps with Prince William fundraiser The former England star has become an enthusiastic environmentalist, taking on the role of ambassador for the King's Foundation, which promotes traditional crafts. "Having developed a love for the countryside I'm also on a personal mission to learn more about rural skills which is so central to the foundation's work," said Beckham. He attended an awards ceremony run by the King's Foundation at St James's Palace where he was teased by another guest, Sir Rod Stewart, who told Beckham that his knighthood "was coming soon". That could prove far-sighted of Sir Rod if the current speculation is correct. At the awards event, Beckham showed his versatility, manning an exhibition about bringing together science, technology and nature, including a display of hand knitting using Dumfries House wool. As a footballer he must have rarely played so many different positions. For the royals, Beckham has plenty of authentic star appeal, developing a post-football identity as a celebrity involved in charity projects. His iconic sporting status is strong enough to attract public attention and he's supported many different causes. For an air ambulance fundraiser last year, it was Beckham that Prince William asked to help successfully raise £15m. "I had to hide my excitement a little bit," said Beckham afterwards about being asked to get involved. It was once considered important to keep honours a secret until they were officially announced, but details of this award seems to have emerged early, even though there is no official confirmation from the Cabinet Office, the government department that oversees honours. The news of "Sir David" might raise concerns among other sports, who will be looking out for their own stars in next week's honours. Rugby league authorities and supporters have complained that their sport has never had a single knighthood or damehood in 130 years. There have also been challenges about whether top honours are being given to the most deserving. But in terms of David Beckham's long wait for a knighthood - if they thought it was all over, it is now. Diddy's Ex-Girlfriend Cries in Court Alleging 3-Day Sex Sessions With Male Escorts That Made Her ‘Feel Disgusting'

A woman who dated Sean 'Diddy' Combs from January 2021 to August 2024 broke down in tears on the witness stand at his criminal trial as she recounted enduring three-day sex sessions with male escorts that were allegedly arranged by Combs. Testifying under a pseudonym, 'Jane' said Combs pressured her into participating in these so-called 'hotel nights,' drug-fueled sexual performances that closely resemble the 'freak-offs' that Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura described. More from Variety Judge Scolds Diddy for 'Nodding Vigorously' to the Jury, Threatens to Remove Him From Courtroom Diddy Auditioned to Play James Brown in 'Get on Up,' Lost Part to Chadwick Boseman Donald Trump, Asked About Pardoning Diddy, Says 'I Would Certainly Look at the Facts' and That 'He Used to Really Like Me a Lot' Jane described one 'hotel night' that involved three rounds of sexual intercourse with one escort over the course of 18 hours. Immediately afterward, Combs allegedly left the hotel. Jane said she was 'so high' from ecstasy given to her by Combs and felt 'lonely.' Jane said 'hotel nights' became a weekly occasion during parts of her relationship with Combs. The longest 'hotel night' Jane remembers having lasted more than three days without sleep. She said the shortest of such encounters lasted 12 hours, and a typical 'hotel night' spanned 24 to 30 hours. Jane said she told Combs multiple times that she did not want to have sex with other men, and that he was 'dismissive' of her concerns. An audio recording from a hotel room in which Jane asked that an escort wear a condom was played in court. In the recording, Combs is heard brushing off Jane's request. Jane testified that on another occasion, Combs looked at her and said, 'You better not ask for a fucking condom' as an escort prepared to begin intercourse with her. Jane testified about one 'hotel night' that occurred on her birthday. She was eating at Nobu, having great one-on-one time with Combs, when he mentioned there would be 'entertainment' after dinner — a 'gulp moment' for Jane. They went to a hotel after the meal, where Combs gave Jane a necklace for her birthday. Then, an unfamiliar man entered the hotel suite. 'I just accepted it,' Jane said of the 'hotel nights.' The sexual routine became muscle memory for her. 'I've done so many of these, I just know how to tune out,' Jane said. 'I just put my thoughts away [and] tune into someone else. Somebody who can perform.' Through heavy cries, Jane described the alleged encounter as 'invasive.' 'I didn't want to do this on my birthday,' she said. After the escort finished, Combs and Jane moved to a different hotel suite, where Combs was 'sweet' and gave her another gift, alongside flowers, cake and balloons. She remembered another escort suddenly entering, and they had 'hours and hours' of sex. 'By the time he left, it was morning,' Jane said. She testified that Combs brought in a third escort immediately afterward. On one occasion, Jane testified, she performed a 'hotel night' without taking drugs. After having sex with two male escorts, she went to the bathroom and threw up. As a third escort entered the hotel room, she recalled Combs telling her, 'You'll feel better now that you've thrown up. Let's go.' In a text message from September 2023 that was read in court, Jane told Combs, 'I don't want to play this role in your life anymore … it's dark, sleazy and makes me feel disgusting.' Jane's testimony began on Thursday afternoon, when she told the jury that she met Combs while on a girls' trip in Miami in 2020. At the time, Combs was romantically involved with one of Jane's friends, and he invited them on a boat and to his house. She called him 'Ernie' and he called her 'Bert,' nicknames based on the 'Sesame Street' characters. Jane and Combs started a romantic relationship in January 2021, and Jane found him 'super charming,' 'passionate' and 'larger than life.' She told him that she had previously been in a relationship with one of his friends, and that she had a child with someone Combs disliked. A month later, Combs took Jane on a trip to the Turks and Caicos Islands, when he allegedly gave her the drug ecstasy 10 times over the course of nine days. Over the next few months, they met up every other week and had lots of sex. She said Combs often gave her cash payments, sometimes up to $10,000, as a loving gesture. Things changed in May 2021, when Combs began opening up to Jane about his sexual fantasies. Early one morning, they had been up for 24 hours straight on ecstasy and MDMA, and they were having sex for nearly 15 hours while watching pornography. 'He really wanted me to fantasize or talk about other men,' Jane said. She recalled Combs saying, 'I can make this fantasy a reality,' and, within a couple of hours, he brought her to a hotel room that was being set up by assistants. Combs hired a male escort named Don to come to the hotel, and he had Jane dress up in lingerie and 'big stripper heels,' as she called them. Jane described being high on drugs as Combs instructed her to pour baby oil on Don and then perform oral sex on him. Things escalated, and soon enough Jane was undressing and having intercourse with Don. After he ejaculated, she had sex with Combs. Jane said this experience 'exhilarated' her because 'it was taboo.' 'I had a good time with my partner,' she said. But 'that night opened a Pandora's box in our relationship,' Jane said. 'It was a door I was unable to shut.' Soon, having sex with other men became 90% of her time spent with Combs, Jane said. These 'hotel nights' could involve multiple rounds of sex with male escorts and with Combs, and they could span up to 30 hours without sleep. Jane said she told Combs 'many times,' both in writing and verbally, that she did not want to have sex with other men, a concern that Combs allegedly brushed off. When Jane moved from the East Coast to Los Angeles in 2021, Combs paid her $10,000 rent. When she expressed hesitancy about his sexual preferences, Combs insinuated that they could break up and he would stop paying her rent, she testified. Thus, she said she felt 'obligated' to 'perform' for him. In the September 2023 text, Jane told Combs that she felt the 'hotel nights' were 'the only reason you have me around and pay for the house.' Earlier in the trial, Combs' longtime ex-girlfriend Ventura alleged that over the course of 11 years, Combs used violence and threats of blackmail to coerce her into 'freak-offs,' drug-fueled sex parties with male escorts that lasted days at a time. Combs is pleading not guilty to charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. If convicted, he faces a possible life sentence in prison. 'The Bachelorette' Alum Jillian Harris Celebrates Bachelorette Party After 8-Year Engagement

Jillian Harris revealed she recently celebrated her bachelorette party at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Canada ahead of her fall nuptials 15 of her closest loved ones attended the events, which included dinners, canoeing and dancing Harris and fiancé Justin Pasutto are set to tie the knot in Europe in Fall 2025Jillian Harris is celebrating her soon-to-be wedding with loved ones. The Bachelorette alum, 45, shared a look at her bachelorette party — eight years in the making — ahead of her European nuptials with fiancé Justin Pasutto. 'After eight years of being engaged, I finally had my Bachelorette party, and here's how it went…,' she wrote over a video showing her and her friends throwing off their cowboy hats in celebration in front of the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Canada. Clips showed that the girls decorated the space with the words 'Last Hoedown,' and Harris even had a white 'bride' cowboy hat for the occasion. She showed a bartender pouring cocktails and the girls sharing drinks and dancing. Additional clips showed them doing yoga and taking a dip in a lake. 'All of my favorite things, we did it all,' Harris said in the video, as she and her closest loved ones got into a canoe and rowed down a lake. The girls also chomped down on several different meals and drank wine. 'Going back to my Alberta roots with 15 of my besties was exactly what my soul needed,' she captioned the post. 'We made so many unforgettable memories. From the yummiest food, to morning pilates and canoeing on the lake, dancing to country music, singing, belly laughing, and stories we'll be telling for years.' 'Honestly, I couldn't have imagined a better way to celebrate this next chapter surrounded by the people who are so special to me. My heart is SO full.🤠🫶🏼🥹🏔️🥂👰🏽‍♀️ #hosted,' she concluded her caption. Harris confirmed earlier this week that she and Pasutto were planning a 2025 European wedding after eight years of being engaged. The couple met in 2012, got engaged in December 2016 and share two children: 8-year-old Leo and 6-year-old daughter Annie. They had initially planned for a Summer 2020 wedding, but postponed it due to COVID. Then, while the couple was planning a family trip to Europe to celebrate Harris' mom's 70th birthday in 2024, she had an idea to 'just get married' there. They eventually postponed it one more time, landing on a Fall 2025 wedding date. "Yeah, it's going to happen. We were going to pull it off this fall, and everything was looking great, and we told everybody that was in our wedding party and the people that were coming that it was happening," Pasutto told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview last summer. Harris chimed in, saying that the couple was "excited" for the big day, particularly since they've settled on a location. "Justin is Italian, and I love Europe," she shared. "We just couldn't think of anywhere that felt right, and when we're there, we just love the bread and the cheese and the music and the laid-back culture, and it just feels like you could do something a little bit more laid-back there. And we love traveling, so that is the plan." Read the original article on People
