ITV Coronation Street heartbreak as character found dead in devastating twist

Daily Record29-04-2025
Coronation Street fans are bracing themselves for some gut-wrenching episodes next week, as a beloved character bids her final farewell to the iconic cobbles. Julie Carp, portrayed by Katy Cavanagh, made a return to the soap earlier this year in the lead-up to Eileen's (played by Sue Cleaver) departure from the street. However, it was subsequently revealed that Julie was battling terminal cancer and had only months left to live. In a tragic turn of events, Julie will be seen saying her last goodbyes next week. Heartbreaking scenes will show her recording poignant videos on her phone for her loved ones to watch after she's gone. In emotionally charged moments, Julie and Eileen savour the stunning vistas at the lake, with Julie confessing there's nowhere else she'd rather be. Prior to this, Eileen is left seething with George when he plans a romantic evening for them, forgetting he had promised to accompany her and Julie on their day out at the lake. Eileen hails a taxi to the lake, while back at No. 11, George stumbles upon a video where Julie advises Eileen to end her relationship with him, reports the Mirror . Back at the lake, following Julie's instructions, Eileen heads to the refreshment van. Upon her return, she finds her sister lying motionless and frantically checks for a pulse. As a distraught Eileen grapples with Julie's death, George frets over Julie's final message to Eileen and what it means for their relationship, further irritating Eileen. Revelations on the soap have sparked outrage among fans, with one venting their frustration on Twitter: "Corrie is going to far with all these depressing storylines. Relationships breaking up. Need some fun and happy storylines to balance them out." Another fan expressed their dismay bluntly: "AND NO ONE ASKED FOR YOU TO KILL JULIE OFF EITHER! ! !". Reflecting on her comeback to the series earlier this year, Katy remarked: "It was really lovely to get the call. It is something I haven't thought about for many years. And I'm very fond of Julie, so it was a good feeling." She added: "It also felt good to be asked to be part of Eileen's departure story it is perfect to come and have some closure on Julie and Eileen, to kind of revisit her. And, you know, there was such a lovely vibe between Julie and Eileen. "Sue and I go back to my very first job on The Cops so it is a full circle moment. It also attracted me as it was for a short set period of time and I could fit it in with the other things going on in my life." Julie had previously departed from Weatherfield in 2015 following the collapse of her relationship with Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin). Love Island's Shakira hints at family rift over 'trust issues' with Harry

Love Island runner-up Shakira Khan has revealed why her mum hasn't met her new boyfriend Harry Cooksley yet, even though they left the villa after finding love more than a week ago Shakira Khan has revealed why her mum hasn't met Harry Cooksley yet. The reality star, 24, met and coupled up with Love Island co-star Harry, 30, on the latest series of the ITV2 dating show. ‌ In the end, it was Toni Laites and Cach Mercer who walked off with the £50,000 prize, but for Shakira and Harry, love came after weeks of uncertainty as they were involved in a love triangle with Helena Ford. Ramping up the drama, Harry's ex-girlfriend from the outside world, Emma Munro was also thrown into the mix. On Thursday, Shakira and Toni, now best friends, made a joint appearance on Loose Women together to discuss their rise to fame. ‌ Former EastEnders actress Nadia Sawalha, who appeared alongside Denise Welch, Frankie Bridge, and anchor Kaye Adams, asked the new TV star how she was managing any 'trust issues' they might have following the ups and downs that played out on screen. Shakira replied: "It was important for us to build back at our own pace, everyone's been together from the start. Everyone's like 'Are you boyfriend and girlfriend, are you exclusive?'" ‌ Former Coronation Street star Denise, 67, quickly cut in to ask Shakira if she and Harry had met each other's families yet, and she replied: "Not yet. Well, my mum's been cruising round the Mediterranean, and I've not even home to see my dad. I've not seen my dad in about 10 weeks!" Just then, the Loose Women panel invited Harry into the conversation, who was sitting in the audience, and he spoke of his behaviour throughout his time in the villa. He said: "I like to think I'm living up to what she wants now. I just want to be that person, I am, but I wanted to make the most of my time in the villa and not sit there for eight weeks." And in response, Shakira quipped: "I've always told him that he's not a bad person, he just does silly things!" During his time in the villa, viewers watched as Harry sat back as Helena and Shakira took the triangle drama out on each other. Just days after the final, he has admitted that he hasn't actually spoken to Helena but gave a positive update on the status of their relationship now that the show is over. ‌ He told Christine Lampard on last Friday's edition of Lorraine: "I think I definitely handled things in the wrong way with Helena and Shakira. But at the end of the day, Helena and I are now moving forward as friends. I haven't actually spoken to her since I've been out but we had a couple of conversations before she left the villa and I'm delighted it's amicable." It comes after reports of all the celebrities rumoured to be joining BBC Strictly Come Dancing 2025. Christine then quizzed Shakira on how she felt during the whole situation, and she said: "Honestly it was heartbreaking and having to watch it pan out every day was so tough. I think in the outside world you can have a bit of distance, you can speak to each other. It was something I'd never experienced before." Elsewhere in the series, Harry had to deal with his ex-girlfriend Emma Munro arriving as a Bombshell during the Casa Amor portion of the competition and joked that he and the other boys had been hitting the gym every day in an attempt to impress the girls before all the drama unfolded. ‌ He added: "I think I was buzzing, all the boys were so buzzing. We were calling it the Promised Land, we were gymming every day. We were training like it was the World Cup final and then the girls would come out, Emma was sat there and I just put my head in my hands. I hadn't seen her for months, probably since last year so it was such a surreal feeling." But in the end, Harry ended up with Shakira and even though they were beaten to the £50,000 prize by Cach and Toni, he knew that Shakira was the one for him in the villa. He explained: "I think it was just one conversation that we had. I would make comments towards her and me actually had a chat one-on-one for the first time in weeks and it was just natural, we expressed how we felt. I'd buried a lot of emotion while I was in there and it just kind of came out." Shakira was initially coupled up with Harry in the early weeks of the competition, but they got together again just days ahead of the final and he told her: "I came in here and thought it would be a lot of fun. Finding you in a villa in Mallorca was not on my bingo card this summer. I do regret taking too long to tell you how I felt. We both know this is more than surface level - I think it always has been for me."

Great British Bake Off judges and hosts confirmed as trailer for new series drops

Great British Bake Off judges and hosts confirmed as trailer for new series drops There's good news for Great British Bake Off fans as Channel 4 has released a new trailer for the upcoming series. The popular show The Great British Bake Off is poised to return to screens imminently as summer draws to a close. ‌ The beloved Channel 4 culinary programme has remained a television favourite for years, signalling the start of autumn as millions of viewers settle in to observe both triumphant and disastrous baking attempts. ‌ The upcoming series is merely weeks from broadcast as audiences gear up to witness the success, and occasional downfall, of cakes, pastry, and loaves. To herald the approaching new series, Channel 4 has unveiled a sneak peek whilst confirming the presenters and judges, though one remains absent. ‌ Comic Joe Wilkinson assumes the role of narrator for the quirky trailer which seems to unfold in outer space, before baking components materialise. He guides viewers through an exploration of existence, featuring presenters Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond appearing as cartoon figures. Referencing the hosts, Joe remarked: "From it grew life, intelligent life, adorned in knitwear and leopard print." Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding are returning to the Channel 4 show (Image: Channel 4) Article continues below Drawing inspiration from the Big Bang, the trailer envisions a cosmos created not from particles and vapour, but from a magnificent eruption of flour, sugar, and baked delights. Ultimately, it reveals everything originated from the sparkling blue gaze of judge Paul Hollywood himself, reports the Mirror. Judge Prue Leith was absent from the promotional clip for the forthcoming series, though she was represented as a cartoon sun, which had glasses and bright coloured hair. ‌ Channel 4 has confirmed her participation as they stated: " As the ovens fire up and a new batch of bakers steps into the iconic tent to face Paul and Prue, audiences can expect all the classic ingredients - warmth, humour, creativity, and just the right amount of competition. "This autumn, let the universe of Bake Off pull you in once again. Because, as the trail says, once there was nothing, and then there was Bake Off." The Great British Bake Off's return has been confirmed (Image: Channel 4) ‌ A launch date remains unconfirmed for viewers, though it has been hinted as coming "soon". Prior to Prue's omission from the teaser, numerous supporters had questioned her continued involvement with the programme. She took over from Dame Mary Berry as a judge on the television favourite when it transferred to Channel 4 in 2017, and has remained alongside Paul ever since. The celebrated television chef has also gone on to present Prue Leith's Cotswolds Kitchen for ITV and last year featured on The Masked Singer. ‌ Nevertheless, she was absent from presenting responsibilities for Celebrity Great British Bake Off earlier this year, causing viewer anxiety. Many speculated whether she had departed the series, but Prue maintained this was not the situation. Great British Bake Off star Prue Leith addresses exit and why she didn't return for celeb series (Image: ITV) During a guest spot on ITV's Lorraine, she informed audiences that she only stepped back from the celebrity edition because she required a rest, clarifying: "I keep being asked if I'm leaving. ‌ "This is because I left the celebrity [version]. I stopped doing that last year because I just hadn't had a holiday in the summer for eight years. I've only given up Celebrity [Bake Off]." She stated: "I still do The Great American Bake Off, which we are filming at the moment, and I still do The Great British Bake Off, which I love, and is the mother of them all." Prue has no plans to leave the regular version of the show, adding: "It's the best job in telly. It's absolutely the best job in telly, I don't have to learn lines, I don't have to have script. I just walk on and eat cake." Article continues below The Great British Bake Off is set to ait later this autumn on Channel 4.
