The move came in response to Pant's communication to the
Election Commission of India
on Monday, stating that suspending the identified officers and filing FIRs against them, as directed by the poll panel, would be "disproportionately harsh" and have "demoralising impact" on the officers' community in Bengal.

House panel flags concerns over quality of data for assessing JJM's performance

. NEW DELHI: A parliamentary panel has flagged its concerns over the authenticity of data being fed into the Jal Jeevan Mission's (JJM's) Integrated Management Information System (IMIS), noting that the quality of uploaded information is essential to fill the visible gaps in the ambitious scheme of providing functional tap water connection to every rural household in the country. The panel -- standing committee on water resources headed by BJP Lok Sabha MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy -- in its report tabled in Parliament on Monday also noted the absence of annual assessment of the functionality of tap water connections in 2023. The annual assessment of functionality is vital to ensure long-term source and system sustainability and corrective measures by states/UTs based on its findings. 'Being aware of the fact that actual veracity of uploaded information is essential for realising the actual ground situation and filling the visible gaps, the Committee reiterate its recommendation that the department (of drinking water and sanitation) makes sincere efforts to ensure the authenticity of the data being fed on the IMIS,' said the report. While the panel observed that the department has cited a number of steps being taken by it for water quality monitoring and surveillance, it noted that the govt 'has not furnished specific reply' on ascertaining the veracity of the information uploaded by the states/UTs on JJM-IMIS. On the panel's observation over the absence of annual assessment, the govt, in its reply, told the committee that the department has received the final report of the functionality assessment survey. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia: Unsold Sofas at Bargain Prices (Prices May Surprise You) Sofas | Search Ads Search Now Undo It said the department's approval of the report is in final stages and will be released and shared with states shortly for requisite course correction. Launched in Aug 2019, the JJM was meant to cover all 19.32 crore (approx) rural households in the country by 2024. However, its deadline has now been extended to 2028.

Tejashwi Alleges NDA MP Veena Devi Holds Two Voter IDs, Slams EC For Inaction

Tejashwi alleged that Veena Devi submitted two separate enumeration forms, bearing two different signatures during SIR process, both allegedly verified and signed off by EC. Amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) row, Former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has responded to the Election Commission's claim that no political party had made any complaints and alleged that 'our BLAs and officials complain to the Election Commission every day, but they neither accept the complaints nor provide any acknowledgement." He further alleged serious irregularities in the voter list, and claimed that Veena Devi, an NDA Member of Parliament from Vaishali, of holding two separate EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Cards)—ID numbers UTO1134543 and GSB1037894—registered in two different Lok Sabha constituencies across two separate districts. He further claimed that the MP has votes in two different Assembly constituencies and that her EPIC cards show two different ages. Yadav further alleged that Veena Devi submitted two separate enumeration forms, bearing two different signatures during SIR process, both allegedly verified and signed off by the Election Commission. 'How did she end up with two different votes, two EPIC cards, two Lok Sabha constituencies, two Assembly constituencies, and two different ages in the new draft list published by the Election Commission?" Yadav questioned in his post. Labelling it a clear case of fraud, manipulation, and collusion, Yadav accused the Election Commission of favouring the BJP-NDA. He sarcastically referred to the Commission as the 'Troll Commission" and demanded accountability, asking whether the EC would now send 'two different notices from two different places" to the MP. Tejashwi Yadav also responded to EC's claim that no official complaint has been filed in the matter and said,"Our BLAs and officials complain to the Election Commission every day, but they neither accept the complaints nor provide any acknowledgement. Yet, they issue press releases daily claiming that political parties have not made any complaints." 'In lying, the Election Commission has even surpassed Prime Minister Modi. This is truly a wonder of the Election Commission. We have never seen anything like this anywhere," he further added. Earlier, the EC on Friday told RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav that it was a crime to forge and use a bogus government document and set a deadline for him to submit his 'apparently fake" Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) by August 16. The Official had earlier written to the former Deputy CM, urging him to 'hand over for investigation' the voter card which he claimed to possess despite it having been 'not issued officially'. In the latest letter, the ERO said that a perusal of the voters list for the past several years has led to the conclusion that the EC had never issued the voter card with the EPIC number quoted by Yadav. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
