Beloved rescue dogs poisoned during house robbery
Treunicht is receiving a lot of support from Fourways residents because that is where she runs her animal rescue organisation, Missing Pet Solutions. The organisation specialises in reuniting lost pets with their families through expert K9 searches.
'It's not just a job, it's a calling that my dogs Red and Khaos shared with me.'

On that fateful day, Treunicht said, 'Four armed men broke into my home and poisoned my beloved K9 partners, Red and Khaos, with sausage laced with illegal poison. They were sleeping peacefully inside, but managed to get out when the robbers forced their way in. They then found this sausage. Red died in his kennel. Khaos collapsed just outside hers.'
She said the intruders stole laptops, cellphones, a PlayStation, a Nintendo Switch, jewellery, cash, and other valuable items.
But her beloved dogs are a greater loss. 'They were more than dogs, they were heroes, and my family. They helped bring lost pets home, and now they're gone, taken in the most brutal, senseless way.

'The silence and loneliness are excruciating. I don't want to get out of bed, because I'm waiting for them to wake me up, as they did every morning. I don't see a purpose anymore without my babies. Rest in perfect peace, my angels.'
Treunicht added that she could not make sense of her loss, yet. 'But I promise you this. I will carry your legacy forward. I will keep helping the lost get found. I will do it with the same fire you gave me, with the same unstoppable drive you had every time we hit the ground.'
In her dogs' honour, she has started a BackaBuddy fund to train new tracking dogs to continue the mission her fur babies lived for.

Mkhwanazi praised for giving R40k donation to kids of slain cops
KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has been praised over his decision to donate over R40 000 raised through a BackaBuddy public initiative towards a charity. Last month, notorious X troll Chris Excel launched a crowdfunding initiative to gift Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi two cows as a 'token of appreciation.' The initiative was a hit, raising R44 000 for the top cop who went public with allegations of corruption within the police department. In a clip posted on social media, Mkhwanazi thanked those who had donated to the initiative. He said, 'I appreciate the gesture and the thoughts of goodwill behind the idea of contributing money. I'm a civil servant, and the public already thanks me enough through the salary I receive every month. It is their taxes that compensate us. I'm privileged to be one of those chosen few to serve and protect the people of South Africa through my role as a police officer'. Mkhwanazi appealed to BackaBuddy and Chris Excel to deposit the cash into the SAPS Educational Trust instead. He continued: 'This is a fund that pays for the educational needs of children of SAPS who died in the line of duty. We have already seen some of these children who have graduated as a result of the support of this fund. 'It is the least that the police can do to support the families and children of our fallen colleagues'. Mkhwanazi added that an independent board of trustees ran the fund. Although Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi graciously gave away the gift intended for him, authorities have claimed he was well within his rights to accept it. KZN police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, told The South African that police may accept gifts for any reason, provided that they declare that it is not a gratification. 'There is a gift register in the SAPS that police officers sign to declare all gifts', he said. Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's selfless act has been widely praised by social media users, including Action SA leader Herman Mashaba. Heartbroken Shallcross priest speaks out after temple's sacred mound was "set alight"

Image: Supplied A SHALLCROSS priest was left heartbroken after an Amman puthu (a sacred mound) on his property was allegedly set alight by a vandal on Saturday. The temple, on Loop Street in Zoutpansberg, was built around the Amman puthu and had been in existence for two decades. "It started off as a home temple, which the family members used, but later it became a temple that was open to all in the community," said Ashley Padayachee, 29, the officiating priest. Our temple is comfortable and a positive space for all, so we do not know why someone would do something so horrific.' Padayachee said the incident was especially sad since August was Amman prayers, which is also known as porridge prayers, dedicated to Goddess Mariamman, the deity of rain and prosperity. "We want the perpetrator to be dealt with. This person is sick and disrespectful. We run this temple by ourselves and by what donations we receive. Campaign raises R44k for Mkhwanazi, but it won't go to the commissioner
BackaBuddy has, however, not yet released the funds. The funds raised on behalf of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi will be donated to a trust of the South African Police Service (Saps). This is according to national police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe. A BackaBuddy campaign was launched by social media users last month to raise money for Mkhwanazi to buy two cows as a gesture of gratitude following a widely publicised media briefing held last month by Mkhwanazi. The campaign exceeded its R35 000 target, raising R44 000 in total. Money raised for Mkhwanazi to be donated On Tuesday, Mathe clarified that the funds will not go directly to Mkhwanazi. 'Lt-Gen Mkhwanazi thanks everyone for their support and contributions. He has, in addition, requested that all donations be made to the South African Police Service Education Trust Fund. 'SAPSET takes care of the educational needs of children whose parents died in the line of duty,' Mathe said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. Public service employees are prohibited, in the course of their official duties, from accepting gifts, donations, rewards – whether in cash or in kind – or any other benefits, as such offers may be construed as bribes. He claimed that Mchunu sought to dismantle the police's political killings task team based in KZN, allegedly to shield individuals linked to politically connected crime syndicates. The provincial commissioner also alleged that a drug cartel based in Gauteng was influencing a high-level criminal syndicate with reach into Saps, the judiciary, and other law enforcement bodies. Mchunu has since been placed on special leave pending the outcome of a judicial commission of inquiry, led by former Constitutional Court (ConCourt) Judge Mbuyiseli Madlanga. The commission will deliver a preliminary report in three months and a final report within six months. In addition, Parliament has established an ad hoc committee to investigate Mkhwanazi's claims, with a 90-day deadline to conclude its work.
