NEP, new online system blamed: 14,127 RTE-eligible children still await admission in Haryana; schools resume after summer break
The students are eligible for free admission under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
The Haryana education department recently released a provisional list of potential RTE beneficiaries.
However, students are still required to undergo a verification process. If their documents are not verified, they may lose their chance at the admission.
The department originally planned to begin the online application process by June 25, but delays pushed the start date to July 11. The delay has left parents anxious and fearing academic loss to their children as the current school session is already underway.

Education officials have acknowledged the substantial delays in the RTE admission process this year. An official from Gurgaon said this year's provisional list for primary admissions, particularly for LKG and junior classes, has been affected by the New Education Policy (NEP) and the introduction of 'Bal Vatika'.
Moreover, multiple deadlines for the admission process have been missed. While the central govt reportedly advised initiating the RTE admission process by Dec, work in Haryana only commenced in April, leading to a significant procedural delay.
A key reason cited for the current delays is the implementation of a new, centralised online system for RTE admissions. This system is designed for record-keeping and facilitating reimbursements.
The central server of the Department of School Education (DSE) now handles the allotment and random selection of students.
A nodal officer from Gurgaon said local bodies merely execute orders from above.
Another factor contributing to the delays has been the reluctance of private schools to admit students under the RTE Act.
The nodal officer said there have been instances where schools would "not accept forms" from parents, which would eventually lead to vacant seats. Then the govt decided to take over the seat allotment process.
Frustrated by the delay in admissions under the RTE Act, Rajkumar, who works as a daily wager, recently enrolled his child in a govt-aided school. "My elder son was admitted through the RTE scheme, and I hoped to do the same for my younger one as well . But with no updates on the admission process, I couldn't wait any longer," he said.

Gurgaon: Of the 730 forest areas in Faridabad Aravalis, which are protected under Section 4 (special orders) of the Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA), around 85 have been cleared of encroachments. "Demolition drives, which started on June 11, were carried out at 85 locations that were identified during the survey," said a senior forest official. PLPA bars activities such as construction, encroachment and tree felling in forest areas. "We are now focusing on bigger structures like farmhouses. We faced resistance at some locations, and two FIRs were lodged against people for damaging earthmovers and injuring people," he said. The SC, in July 2022, had ruled that all Aravali land protected under PLPA (special orders) should be treated as forest, with provisions of the Forest (Conservation) Act, and any illegal buildings or structures should be demolished.
