How Canada U19 won a 50-over game vs Argentina after batting for five deliveries

India Todaya day ago
Cricket often throws up one-sided contests, but few have been as lopsided as Canada Under-19's demolition of Argentina Under-19 in the ICC Men's U19 Cricket World Cup Americas Qualifier 2025. Canada Under-19 produced a ruthless display to defeat Argentina Under-19 by 10 wickets, completing the chase in only five deliveries, during Match 4 of the ICC Men's U19 Cricket World Cup Americas Qualifier in Georgia on Sunday (10 August).advertisementAt the Param Veer Sports Complex (Ground 2), Argentina won the toss and batted first but were dismissed for 23 in 19.4 overs. The innings never recovered from early setbacks, with none of the batters reaching double figures. Seven were dismissed without scoring, and extras accounted for seven of the runs, making it the top contributor in the innings. Fast bowler Jagmandeep Paul led the Canadian attack with an outstanding spell, taking six wickets for seven runs in five overs, including three maidens. His new-ball burst left Argentina reeling, and the rest of the attack maintained pressure to finish the innings inside 20 overs.
Chasing 24, Canada wasted no time in wrapping up the match. Opener Dharm Patel took a single from the first ball of the innings, before captain Yuvraj Samra struck the next four deliveries from Franz Bur for boundaries - two fours followed by two sixes. Bur also conceded three wides in the over, taking Canada past the target with 49.1 overs unused and 295 balls to spare.Although the match did not carry Youth ODI status, the scale and speed of the win were remarkable. Had it been an official Youth ODI, it would have challenged the record for the quickest run chase in terms of overs remaining. That record currently belongs to Australia Under-19, who in the 2004 Under-19 World Cup chased down Scotland's 22 in 3.5 overs. The result keeps Canada in a strong position in the Americas Qualifier, which is being held in Atlanta, USA, from 7 to 17 August. The competition features Argentina, Bermuda, Canada and hosts USA, with each side playing the others twice in a double round-robin format. The top team will secure the Americas region's only place at the 2026 ICC Men's U19 Cricket World Cup.The 2026 edition of the tournament will be staged in Namibia and Zimbabwe between January and February, with 16 teams competing across five venues. The teams will be split into four groups for the initial stage, followed by the Super Six, semi-finals and final.- EndsMust Watch

Team India captain Shubman Gill gets MASSIVE honour after success on England Test tour, he has been…

Shubman Gill has been picked as ICC Player of the Month of July 2025. (Photo: ANI) Team India skipper Shubman Gill is enjoying a golden run at the moment – first as a batter and then as a captain. Gill ended up as the leading run-getter in the five-match Test series against England – his maiden one as Test captain – scoring 754 runs in them. He became the Indian captain with the most runs in a Test series, surpassing the great Sunil Gavaskar and just missed out on the record of legendary Sir Donald Bradman. Gill then led India to a remarkable six-run win over England in the fifth and final Test at the Oval in London earlier to this month to level the series at 2-2 and share the 'Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy' with England captain Ben Stokes. Gill's remarkable last month with Team meant that the Indian captain and England batter Sophia Dunkley have been declared the ICC men's and women's Players of the Month for July 2025 following an elaborate process that included votes from an esteemed selection panel as well as those of fans worldwide. Setting new standards with the bat 👌 Capping off an incredible summer in whites is the ICC Men's Player of the Month for July 2025 🌟 — ICC (@ICC) August 12, 2025 Shubman Gill creates a new ICC record Gill became the first male player to win the 'Player of the Month' award four times after a stupendous run in England saw him score 567 runs at an average of 94.50 in the three Tests played in July. His previous ICC Player of the Month awards were in January 2023, September 2023 and February 2025. Two women players – Ash Gardner and Hayley Matthews – have won the award four times each. The highlight for Gill during this period was his aggregate of 430 runs in the second Test in Birmingham, the second highest ever in a Test match. His scores of 269 and 161 in that Test helped level the series 1-1 and he also chipped in with a useful 103 in the second innings of the fourth Test in Manchester that helped draw the match and keep the series alive. The Indian skipper, who won the award ahead of his England counterpart Ben Stokes and South Africa all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, said he was hoping to continue his good form in the season ahead. Gill ended up with 4 hundreds in the series and an average of 75.4 with a career-best score of 269 in the second Test at Edgbaston. 'It feels great to be named the ICC Player of the Month for July. This time it holds a lot more significance since it has come for my performances during my first Test series as captain,' Gill was quoted as saying by the ICC. 'The double ton in Birmingham is obviously something I will cherish forever and will be one of the highlights of my tour to England. The Test series against England was a learning experience for me as captain and we had some outstanding performances from both sides, which I am sure players from both sides will remember for a long time,' the Indian captain added. 'I would like to thank the jury for selecting me for this award and my teammates who have been with me during the course of this exciting series. I look forward to continuing my form in the season ahead and bring more laurels for the country.' Sophia Dunkley edges out Sophie Ecclestone England batter Dunkley edged her team-mate Sophie Ecclestone and Ireland captain Gaby Lewis for the award, showing a fine run during this period in ODIs as well as T20Is. She played in all seven matches at home against India across the two formats, aggregating 126 runs in three ODIs and 144 runs at a strike-rate of 134.57 in four T20Is. Dunkley was England's leading scorer in the T20I series and smashed a superb 92-ball 83 in the first ODI in Southampton. 'I am delighted to win the ICC Player of the Month award off the back of a really hard-fought series against India,' Dunkley said. 'We would have loved to have won the series, but I think we'll take a lot from it moving towards the ICC Women's World Cup. India deserved their win, and it was a great series to be a part of.'

I need these tough matches ... Getting used to very difficult situations. I'm very happy this happened before a Grand Slam. I'm happy about today. Can I do things better? Yes.
