Saints great Mark Ingram II inducted to Alabama Sports Hall of Fame

Yahoo04-05-2025
Congratulations are in order for Mark Ingram II. The former New Orleans Saints running back was inducted to the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday night, recognizing his achievements as a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide. The headlining member of the Class of 2025, Ingram joined his former teammate Roman Harper (Class of 2023) with a bronze plaque at the Hall of Fame.
Before he turned pro and spent 12 years in the NFL, 10 of them with the Saints, Ingram was the school's first-ever Heisman Trophy winner in 2009, the same year he helped the Crimson Tide win a national championship. He left Alabama with the fourth-most rushing yards in school history at the time (3,261) behind Shaun Alexander, Bobby Humphrey, and Kenneth Darby, though he has since been surpassed by runners like Najee Harris, Derrick Henry, and T.J. Yeldon.

Now he's being enshrined alongside the all-time greats. Located in Birmingham, Ala., the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame has collected more than 5,000 historic objects representing 300-plus inductees -- including some of the most iconic figures in American sports history like four-time Olympic gold medal-winner Jesse Owens, Major League Baseball record-setter Hank Aaron, and legendary Alabama football coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. Stop by and visit sometime.
We'd be remiss to not mention Ingram's achievements with the Saints, too. He ran for 6,500 yards with the black and gold and retired as the team's all-time leader in rushing yards and touchdown runs (52), earning three Pro Bowl nods along the way. While his Saints career got off to a rocky start, Ingram developed into one of the better every-down backs of his generation by working on his skills as a receiver and pass protector, and in 2017 he made history with his then-rookie teammate Alvin Kamara. They became the first running back duo in NFL history to each gain more than 1,500 yards from scrimmage in the same season. Ingram's grip on the team's rushing records was brief, but he was happy to see someone he mentored take them from him. That team-first attitude endeared Ingram to Saints fans, and it remains one of his finest qualities to this day.

Texans' Brevin Jordan suffers another season-ending injury

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston Texans tight end Brevin Jordan was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, marking the second straight year he's sustained a season-ending injury. The team didn't specify his injury, but he appeared to injure his lower leg or knee in training camp Monday. This injury comes after he tore an ACL in Week 2 last season. 'He went down with a devastating injury,' coach DeMeco Ryans said. 'It's really rough for a guy that just bounced back from a major injury. So, it's tough on Brevin right now and tough on our entire team.' Jordan was a fifth-round pick in the 2021 draft. He appeared in 14 games in 2023 when he had a career-high 219 yards receiving with two touchdowns. For his career he has 53 receptions for 532 yards and five touchdowns. ___ AP NFL:

Packers claim WR Kawaan Baker off waivers from Raiders

In need of help at wide receiver with injuries mounting, the Green Bay Packers claimed Kawaan Baker off of waivers from the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday, per NFL reporter Aaron Wilson. The Packers waived cornerback Isaiah Dunn with an injury designation to clear a roster spot for Baker, who will be officially added to the roster once he passes a physical on Wednesday. Matt LaFleur's team needs an experienced player at receiver with Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Savion Williams and now Romeo Doubs -- who left practice on Tuesday -- dealing with injuries of various severities. Baker was a seventh-round pick (No. 255 overall) of the New Orleans Saints in the 2021 NFL draft. He spent time on the Packers practice squad in October and November of the 2022 season, so there is some experience in LaFleur's offense. Baker has spent time on the practice squads of the Saints, Packers and Philadelphia Eagles, and he was with the New England Patriots during the 2024 season. While at South Alabama, Baker caught 126 passes for 1,829 yards and 16 touchdowns while also rushing 92 times for 376 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also returned 29 kickoffs. In 2020, Baker was a second-team All-Sun Belt pick. The Packers are headed to Indiana to face the Colts in a joint practice on Thursday and a preseason game on Saturday. It's possible Baker will be needed to play snaps late in the preseason game.

Slimmed-down Tommy Morrison makes Walker Cup statement after stroke play at 2025 U.S. Amateur

(Editor's note: Golfweek's Cameron Jourdan is following all the action from Olympic Club. Check out his updates from the first round here.) SAN FRANCISCO — It didn't take long for Tommy Morrison to notice the changes in his body. While competing in the Amateur Championship and European Amateur earlier this summer, Morrison thought he was eating cleaner while in Europe. He started losing weight and felt better than he has in some time. When he got home, he decided to go on a diet. He has stuck to it, and the results are showing on the golf course. Morrison, who held the co-lead after the opening round of the 2025 U.S. Amateur at The Olympic Club, followed his opening 66 with a 2-under 68 on the Lake Course, finishing at 6 under heading into the weekend. Morrison, the 6-foot-8 rising senior at Texas, trails only world No. 4 Preston Stout after the morning wave Tuesday and is safely into the match-play portion of the championship, which begins Wednesday. Maybe Tuesday night will bring a bit of celebration from the Morrisons, as on Monday, Morrison turned 21. What did he do in the short amount of time between his tee times? "My mom and I went to Outback and got a steak, went to bed, but probably 9:30," He said. "Was probably reallyboring." His play has been nothing but at Olympic Club, where less than 20 players are under par as the stroke-play portion of the championship progresses. Perhaps the most notable moment in his round happened after his final putt dropped. Morrison is the highest-ranked American in the World Amateur Golf Ranking not on the Walker Cup team. Captain Nathan Smith watched Morrison tee off Tuesday morning and watched numerous shots throughout the round. As Morrison scaled the hill behind the 18th green to sign his scorecard, Smith was lurking to give him a fist bump and congratulate him. "I don't think it was on my mind that much," Morrison said of trying to make the Walker Cup team. "I think just just wanted to have two really solid days. And that was probably a boring answer, but it wasn't on my mind too much." He gave Smith a good show through stroke play. In four weeks, the Walker Cup will commence at Cypress Point Club, the No. 1 course on Golfweek's Best Classic 200 list, which sits about two hours south of Olympic Club. While a good showing during match play would make him a shoo-in selection, Morrison didn't leave any doubt as to how he could help the Americans in a few weeks time. The slimmed-down Morrison still towers like the cypress trees lining the fairways at Olympic Club, but his game is beefed up to start the week. He said he's down about 25 pounds doing a carnivore diet consisting of a lot of protein and light dairy. "No carbs, no sugar. Just did it for like, a month and a half when I got back from Europe," Morrison said, "and I think I needed to lose some weight. I was getting pretty chubby." He said the weight started falling off fast after he changed his eating habits. His game, however, is shining at the biggest amateur event in the world.
