Rahul Gandhi to visit J-K's Poonch on May 24, meet kin of civilians killed in Pakistani shelling
New Delhi [India], May 22 (ANI): Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is likely to visit Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Saturday (May 24) to meet the families of civilians who were killed in recent cross-border shelling by Pakistan, sources told ANI.
Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had visited the victims of the shelling in both Poonch and Rajouri, stressing that the proper rehabilitation of affected families is his top priority.
According to an official statement from Raj Bhavan, the closest kin of the victims will be offered government jobs, and assistance will be provided to the families from the Central government.
'The proper rehabilitation of affected families is my top priority. The J&K administration, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, is committed to ensuring proper rehabilitation, enhanced border infrastructure, and security for the residents of border areas. We are significantly expanding our efforts to construct individual and community bunkers across Jammu and Kashmir, under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE),' said the Lieutenant Governor.Apart from Poonch, Rajouri district has also been affected. Locals have suffered damage to their homes and lost their sources of livelihood due to the shelling. The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the next of kin of those killed.
Lieutenant Governor Sinha has held several meetings with civil administration officials, police, and local residents to assess the situation. He added that a rehabilitation package for the victims will soon be approved by the Central government.
'A necessity for bunkers is being felt. New bunkers will be built so that people of J&K can stay safe,' Sinha said.
On May 9, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) strongly condemned Pakistan for deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure, including schools and places of worship. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri criticised Pakistan for attacking religious sites along the Line of Control (LoC), calling the strikes 'a new low even for Pakistan.'
According to the MEA, one shell fired by Pakistan hit the home of two students from the Christ School in Poonch.
Bhai Surender Singh, Head Granthi of Sahab Mahant Saab Ji Gurudwara, also confirmed the damage to religious places.
Speaking to ANI, Bhai Surender Singh said, 'It wasn't done by the Indian Army; it was actually firing from Pakistan. There was damage to gurdwaras, mosques, and temples, and we also had casualties. A teacher who was teaching children was killed. Pakistan fired on our city, on people's homes, and even our gurdwaras were hit.'
India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, post the 'Barbaric' Pahalgan terror attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including a Nepali national.
Following the launch of the operation, Pakistan attempted to carry out a series of drone and missile attacks targeting Indian military sites. However, India's Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems successfully neutralised all incoming threats, preventing any major damage. (ANI)

Mango Man Padma Shri Kalimullah Khan names his new variety after Operation Sindoor
For over a decade, Kalimullah Khan, a farmer and horticulturist from Uttar Pradesh, has been creating hybrid mango varieties and naming them after celebrities. Actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan, former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and even politicians like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Sonia Gandhi have all got mango trees that produce a deliciously special fruit that's named after them. After the success of Operation Sindoor, the 85-year-old created two new types of mangoes that he has named after India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the missile strikes against Pakistan called Rajnath aam and Sindoor aam. The Padma Shri awardee says. 'These fruits are for people who've done extraordinary work. From the moment the Indian army's operation was a success, I wanted to grow a mango that was dedicated to this feat and the architect behind it. For these two mangoes, we mixed chausa, amigudarsha, langda and dasheri in different proportions to create a tasty variety of the fruit for this season and it will be available till the month of July.' "We felt compelled to dedicate a special mango to this act of bravery. From the moment the army operation was successfully completed, it was in our minds that this year a variety should be dedicated to the victorious force, along with the architect behind it. So we came with the variety," shares the second son of Kalimullah, Nazimullah Khan, who along with his father previously bred the 'Namo aam' in 2014 and the 'Yogiji aam' in 2017. These mangoes are a rare treat that can be relished by visitors to the farm: 'We don't sell the fruits but distribute it for free to visitors. They are a tribute.' While the farmer prefers using dasheri mangoes in his passion project, he is secretive of the varieties used to grow these mangoes. 'Many kinds of mangoes are used in this process till we get the right flavour,' says Kalimullah, whose favourite is the Aishwarya aam.

Sanjay Jha-led delegation briefs EAM Jaishankar on Operation Sindoor outreach
The all-party parliamentary delegation led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha on Thursday met External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar and briefed him on the support received during their recent five-nation diplomatic outreach on the Operation Sindoor. The delegation which met EAM Jaishankar included BJP MPs Aparajita Sarangi, Brij Lal, Hemang Joshi, and Pradan Baruah, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, CPI(M)'s Rajya Sabha member John Brittas, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid and former diplomat Mohan Kumar. During their visits to Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia, the delegation presented dossiers and evidence on Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism relating to Pahalgam terror attack and also informed them about India's military action under Operation Sindoor. Speaking to IANS after the meeting, JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha said, "There was a very positive atmosphere in Indonesia. We received support, and their statement was in favour of India. Malaysia, however, appeared a little neutral. We noticed every country had its own approach. In many places, we got a positive response; in some, it was neutral, and in a few, there were questions. But this was the aim of our tour -- to understand and share perspectives." "We shared with them our firm stand against terrorism," he added. When I introduced the delegation members as being from Kerala, Assam, Bengal, Gujarat, and from different parties, it sent a strong signal that the entire nation and political spectrum was speaking in one voice. If one or two voices dissent, they should reflect on whether they are aligned with the country or somewhere else." BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi said, "We received an invitation from the EAM's office, and today we all had a productive discussion. Each member shared detailed experiences from the countries we visited. The Minister was deeply engaged and asked many questions. We explained everything in depth. Now the MEA will take a call on the further steps." Referring to the criticism over timing of diplomatic outreach, Sarangi said, "The delegation completed its work with seriousness and gave its briefing. Even today, during the meeting with the EAM, leaders like Salman Khurshid and CPI(M)'s John Brittas were present, and there was great camaraderie and unity. That's what stood out the most."

'These four countries which we visited they are very important for us because they were part of middle East, FATF and earlier also many of these countries didn't object to Pakistan being into FATF they are quite influential also in terms of Pakistan,' he said, adding, 'Our interlocutors we have given them lot of examples lot of proofs as well how Pakistan is supporting this terror activities'. He added that the first thing New Delhi needs to ensure is that Pakistan gets back on the FATF grey list. On Pakistan's support to terrorism Owaisi also recalled telling the hosts in the four nations about Pakistan's direct links to the Pahalgam terror attack and The Resistance Front (TRF), the terror outfit believed to be behind the massacre. 'We also told them how Pakistan with the help of China didn't allow the naming of TRF in the resolution that was passed in UN Security Council about the Pahalgam attack,' he said. He also slammed the April 15 speech by Pakistani Army chief Asim Munir, who has now been elevated to the rank of field marshal, in which he 'talked about Kashmir being a jugular vein and how Pakistan will stand with all these people for opposing India.' On China's support to Pakistan Owaisi threw light on China's role in emboldening Islamabad's support to anti-India terror elements in the region. He added that Operation Sindoor outreach gave India an opportunity to expose China's support to Pakistan's terror factory. 'I had tried to expose Pakistan lies there wrong messaging against India and it was a good opportunity to expose how Pakistan works that without China they are nothing and they are handicapped without china help that they get,' he added. On loans to Pakistan Owaisi also called on the international financial institutions to impose stricter monetary controls on aid and assistance granted to Islamabad for developmental projects. 'Now there has to be monitoring of these loans that Pakistan is getting from Asian Development Bank (ADB) and world bank and IMF, otherwise these funds will not go to the upliftment of the Pakistani people, to eradicate poverty there.' Since India's four-day military standoff with Pakistan starting May 7, the IMF and the ADB have dished out aid worth millions to Pakistan 'for developmental projects' despite strong objections by India.
