Allegations of 'vote theft' In India, the word 'election' is one that evokes immense civic pride in a citizen. Therefore, it is the duty of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure that the entire election system ensures a fair poll as the running of a democracy rests on this. But why is the ECI not responding to the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegations of 'vote theft' if it has nothing to hide? And why is Mr. Gandhi not submitting his claims in writing? The ECI seems more intent on condemning the messenger than confronting wrong-doing. Baani Bhabha, Ambala, Punjab Human-elephant conflict The report, 'World Elephant to be celebrated in Coimbatore today' (August 12), is perhaps the right moment to highlight how tourists harass elephants. Video footage of a tusker nearly trampling a tourist in Bandipur on August 10 is an example of unchecked tourism and tourists not following the rules. The 'selfie craze' is to blame. There are videos on YouTube of local people harassing elephants in the tea gardens of West Bengal and Assam. These clips show youngsters running behind herds and teasing the animals and the 'mass entertainment' it gives them when the angry animals react. What are the State Forest Departments doing? The fact is that there are a number of public health specialists in India with a Masters in Public Health (MPH). Such community physicians and public health specialists should actively seek out major roles so that national health programmes have meaningful community engagement. He stated Israel killed 25,000 Hamas terrorists. He blamed Hamas for civilian casualties. The Congress party condemned Azar's response. They demanded government action against the ambassador's remarks. ANI Israel envoy Reuven Azar Congress' Priyanka Gandhi on Tuesday said the Israeli state is committing "genocide" and it is "shameful" that the Indian government is standing "silent". Hitting back at her, Israeli ambassador to India Reuven Azar said, "What is shameful is your deceit. Israel Killed 25,000 Hamas terrorists. The terrible cost in human lives derives from Hamas' heinous tactics of hiding behind civilians, their shooting of people trying to evacuate or receive assistance and their rocket fire." YouTuber Arrested For "Derogatory Comments" On Assamese Community

Guwahati: A woman was arrested in Assam's Morigaon district on Tuesday for allegedly making derogatory statements against the Assamese community. The arrest took place after a group -- Bir Lachit Sena - filed a complaint against her. "It was alleged in the complaint that the accused made some derogatory statements against a community. After initial investigation, the woman has been arrested by officers of the Lahorighat police station," said Superintendent of Police Hemanta Das said. Sources added the accused not been granted bail. The woman, a YouTuber, has been accused of making defamatory statements against Assamese people in a recent video. Meanwhile Assam's Cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika has made an allegation that the influencer who abused the Assamese community is a 'well-known Congress supporter'. "These are the kind of people the Congress IT Cell relies on to get reach and peddle their agenda," the minister posted on social media handle X. "Even Hon'ble CM Dr @himantabiswa Dangoriya highlighted this in his press conference. Yet, the Congress party has not condemned these vile remarks. What does this silence mean? Is this the official stand of Congress towards Assam and the Assamese people? How many more such influencers has Congress appointed to insult our land, culture and identity? Assam deserves answers and an apology" he added. The Congress is yet to respond to this allegation.
