Cabinet during BRS rule met 6 times, took decisions on Kaleshwaram Barrages: Harish Rao

The Hindu11-07-2025
HYDERABAD
Senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and former Irrigation and Finance Minister T. Harish Rao said on Friday (July 11, 2025) that the Cabinet led by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had met six times and took decisions pertaining to the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla Barrages of the Kaleshwaram Project.
Speaking after appearing before the Justice P.C. Ghose Commission of Inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of the three barrages of the Kaleshwaram Project, Mr. Harish Rao said that he hand handed over additional information on the three barrages, following false news reports appearing in a section of the media.
'I have given clear and all information I have. Now that we are not in the government, all the documents are with it and I have written to the Chief Secretary, Secretaries of the General Administration and Irrigation Departments seeking the copies of Cabinet decisions taken during the BRS rule along with Cabinet notes, but there's no response', Mr. Harish Rao said and added that he had compiled all the information available with him and submitted to the Commission in the form of a note and supporting documents.
He explained that the Cabinet had taken decisions six times on the three barrages and the decisions were also approved by the Assembly thrice. He had given the details about when the Cabinet had taken up the subject for discussion, notes on the discussion and other issues to the Commission. Mr. Rao said that the approval by the Legislature would hold more ground than the decisions of the Cabinet and he had furnished the details of discussions in the Legislature too.
Since the Commission was continuing its inquiry, Mr. Harish Rao said he was not in a position to reveal all the details that were submitted to the panel, and they would be revealed at an appropriate time. . 'We have suspicion that the government was giving misleading information to the Commission on the issue', the BRS leader added.
On the presentation made by the government to the Cabinet, legislators, members of parliament and leaders of the ruling party the other day, Mr. Harish Rao said the presentation was made to cover up Congress's betrayal of people of Telangana for over 50 years in the combined State. He alleged that the Chief Minister and Irrigation Minister were repeatedly misleading people on the ad hoc arrangement of 299:512 (Andhra Pradesh:Telangana) tmc ft sharing as the permanent one.

BRS accuses CM of tapping phones of Miss World delegates

Hyderabad: Leaders of the BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) on Friday launched scathing accusations against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, alleging he has orchestrated extensive phone tapping, targeting political rivals, his own party members, celebrities, and even participants in the Miss World competition. Addressing a press conference, BRS MLAs Padi Kaushik Reddy and K Sanjay made these sensational claims. Kaushik Reddy asserted that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy himself had confirmed that officials were tapping phones. 'Chief Minister Revanth Reddy himself stated that we are tapping phones,' Kaushik Reddy declared, demanding a CBI and ED investigation into the Revanth Reddy government by the Central government. He further alleged that the phones of prominent BRS leaders including KCR, KTR, and Harish Rao, along with those of Congress ministers, MLAs, MLCs, and BJP leaders, were under surveillance. He claimed that the phones of 118 MLAs, 17 MPs, and MLCs in the state were being tapped, and shockingly, alleged that Revanth Reddy was hiring private phone hackers to tap the phones of 'heroines' and was using this for blackmail. 'Revanth Reddy's government has tapped the phones of those who came to the Miss World pageant,' he added. Kaushik Reddy also alleged that his own wife's phone was being tapped, claiming Revanth Reddy was privy to conversations between husband and wife. He further asserted that Revanth Reddy had overheard conversations between two ministers via phone tapping and had subsequently reprimanded one of them. 'Why was a case not registered on the petition we submitted regarding phone tapping?' he questioned, vowing to challenge Revanth Reddy until the 'six guarantees' are implemented. He maintained that KCR, KTR, and Harish Rao had never engaged in phone tapping. MLA K Sanjay added that Revanth Reddy was preoccupied with phone tapping and leaks. Sanjay branded Revanth Reddy's background as 'full of lies and deceit' and claimed he could 'steal and find.' He referenced Revanth Reddy's own statement that his phone was not tapped, which he cited as the reason he was not called by the SIT. Sanjay concluded by saying, 'Revanth Reddy has a mental illness,' and astonishingly alleged that Revanth Reddy was even tapping the phone of Telangana Congress affairs in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan. He also cited a letter from Sonia Gandhi, which Revanth Reddy had shown the previous day, as proof of the Chief Minister's falsehoods. Despite the letter's contents, Sanjay alleged that Revanth Reddy had hyperbolically presented it 'like an Oscar or a Nobel Prize,' thereby jeopardising Telangana's self-respect.

BRS alleges ‘shameless political nexus' between Cong, BJP

Hyderabad: In a scathing attack, BRS Working President KT Rama Rao on Friday accused both the Congress and BJP of operating a 'shameless political nexus' in Telangana. He alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's government was blatantly anti-Dalit and anti-tribal. Speaking at a student convention marking the merger of Telangana Rashtra Vidyarthi Sainik Parishad into the BRS student wing, Rama Rao questioned the silence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the alleged collusion between Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and BJP MP CM Ramesh. Rao alleged that the Congress government in Telangana was awarding contracts worth thousands of crores to BJP leaders, specifically citing the Rs 1,600 crore 'Fourth City Road' contract given to CM Ramesh. 'While the Congress Chief Minister hands out massive contracts to BJP MPs, Rahul Gandhi chooses to remain silent. Is he unaware of this dangerous alliance?' he demanded. KTR also mocked Revanth Reddy for celebrating a letter from Sonia Gandhi, stating that Revanth had misinterpreted a polite message as high praise. 'He couldn't even read the letter properly. Instead of an Oscar, he deserves a 'Bhaskar Award',' KTR quipped. He further cast doubt on the authenticity of Revanth Reddy's educational qualifications, remarking, 'When he can't understand a simple letter, it raises legitimate suspicions about his degree.'

BRS leader laments missed opportunities for more assembly seats in TG, AP

Hyderabad: BRS senior leader B Vinod Kumar today asserted that had the Indian Government amended Section 26 of the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act, 2014, by replacing the phrase 'Subject to' with 'Not Withstanding,' the number of seats in both the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State Legislative Assemblies would have increased significantly. Vinod Kumar revealed that the BRS Party had repeatedly urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi between 2014 and 2019 to enact this crucial amendment. However, he noted, the Government of India took no steps to amend Section 26 of the Act. 'I, myself, proposed a Private Member's Bill in the Lok Sabha in 2015 to amend it,' Vinod added. His comments follow the Supreme Court's decision today to dismiss a petition concerning delimitation, stating that such a process would only commence after the census conducted post-2026. 'Therefore, I believe that if the Government of India had amended Section 26 of the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act, the seats would have increased long ago,' Vinod stated. He concluded with optimism, 'But now 2026 is not far away. Delimitation will take place soon.'
