Joe Mazzulla watches EuroLeague star in Turkey ahead of Celtics free agency

Joe Mazzulla watches EuroLeague star in Turkey ahead of Celtics free agency

The Celtics are going to have some tough limitations in building a roster this summer. Boston is expected to have to trade away multiple rotation players in order to reduce a massive luxury tax bill. Brad Stevens also has to find a way to replace Jayson Tatum's massive production at forward for potentially the entire season after he suffered a torn Achilles last month.
With Boston only expected to have veteran's minimum contracts available in free agency to fill that void, the team may look overseas to find some low-cost options at forward. Joe Mazzulla got a potential look at one of those options on Monday according to EuroHoops.

The Celtics coach was spotted courtside in Istanbul for a Turkish League playoff game between Fenerbahce and Bahcesehir, watching among others Nigel Hayes-Davis.
The former Wisconsin standout has thrived overseas since spending the first two years of his pro career in the NBA. The 30-year-old was selected to the All-Euroleague First Team in the past two years while playing for Fenerbahce and he was also the Euroleague Final Four MVP this season.
At 6-foot-8, he's an intriguing forward option who has improved his shooting in Europe. The Celtics have been linked to Hayes-Davis in the past as well with a source telling MassLive that Hayes-Davis worked out for Boston back in 2021 during Brad Stevens first year as president of basketball operations. Fenerbahce GM Derya Yannier said last month that there was serious NBA interest in multiple Fenerbahce players including Hayes-Davis according to Sportando.
'There is very serious interest from the NBA for Nigel Hayes-Davis and Tarik Biberovic,' Yannier told reporters in May. 'I hope they continue with us, but if they say, 'I want to try in the NBA,' we won't stand in their way.'

Biberovic was drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2023 so they still have his NBA rights but Hayes would be able to sign with any NBA team if he is allowed out of his contract.
The Celtics have had plenty of success plucking useful players from overseas in the past decade. Daniel Theis and Brad Wanamaker both turned into rotation players for Boston after successful careers abroad. With the Celtics limited in their spending power, it makes sense for them to be looking at intriguing options abroad as they attempt to stay competitive in the East next season with a diminished supporting cast and budget.
Hayes-Davis finished with 10 points and seven rebounds on Monday in front of Mazzulla, helping Fenerbahce advance to the Turkish League Finals.

NBA rumors: Heat, Rockets, Spurs named Kevin Durant's ‘preferred' trade destinations

The post NBA rumors: Heat, Rockets, Spurs named Kevin Durant's 'preferred' trade destinations appeared first on ClutchPoints. Kevin Durant has been active on the trade rumor mill as the Phoenix Suns look to retool their roster moving forward. According to ESPN's NBA insider Shams Charania, they might have their avenues. Advertisement Charania reported on Saturday that Durant's list of teams he prefers to go to include the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets. 'The Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets are 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant's preferred trade destinations out of Phoenix, sources tell ESPN. Those across the NBA have been made aware in recent days that those are the three teams that Durant would commit to long-term,' Charania wrote. 'Durant is on an expiring $54.7 million deal for 2025-26, and the Suns have made clear to six-to-eight seriously interested teams that they will make the best deal for the franchise – even outside of his preferred list of Miami, San Antonio and Houston.' What lies ahead for Kevin Durant, Suns this offseason © Dan Hamilton-Imagn Images Kevin Durant has represented the Suns since the middle of the 2022-23 season, taking them to the playoffs twice. However, their 2024-25 campaign ended in disappointment as they failed to make the postseason with a 36-46 record. Advertisement Throughout his time with the Suns, he averaged 26.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game after 145 total appearances. He had shooting splits of 52.7% from the field, including 42.7% from beyond the arc, and 84.7% from the free-throw line. Durant has shown he can still play at an elite level at age 36. However, the Suns' inability to improve their depth to surround Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal have resulted in underwhelming endings for the franchise. The Heat would benefit from adding Durant on offense, having a top scorer to address their offensive struggles. San Antonio would raise their ceiling as they would form a star trio of Durant, Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox. As for the Rockets, they would have a dependable scorer to elevate their offense. They especially struggled in that area during their first-round series loss to the Golden State Warriors. There are many roads that the Suns can take to address their roster needs this offseason. It may end up with them moving on from one of the best scorers in NBA history. However, it's a decision they might have to make to start a new era of Phoenix basketball. How the Brooklyn Nets can help the Boston Celtics this NBA offseason

How the Brooklyn Nets can help the Boston Celtics this NBA offseason Can the Brooklyn Nets help the Boston Celtics this NBA offseason? As the team in the league with the largest payroll that is also over the second apron long enough to incur the worst penalties mandated by the collective bargaining agreement (CBA), the Celtics are staring at being hit with a potentially historic payroll and tax bill on top of the punitive team building penalties the CBA will dole out on Boston. Enter the Nets, who are the only team in the Association that is going to have the sort of cap space the Celtics would need to absorb the kind of salary necessary in single-team deals to get Boston out of being a second (and perhaps even first) apron ball club. There are other, more complex ways the Celtics could get cheaper -- and others that would take more time -- but if the Celtics want to get cheaper in a hurry, all roads lead to Brooklyn. The cohost of the CLNS Media "Garden Report" podcast, Bobby Manning, sat down with the New York Post's Brian Lewis on a recent episode of the show to talk over the potentiality for a Nets-Celtics cap cleansing team up. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say.

Just In: Houston Rockets center Steven Adams has agreed to a three-year, $39 million contract extension to stay with the franchise, sources tell ESPN.
