Time of India2 days ago
Kochi: Gadhika 2025, a fair showcasing traditional art, cultural exhibitions and products of scheduled tribes, will be held from Aug 29 to Sept 4 at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium.
As part of this, an organising committee was formed on Tuesday at a meeting convened by minister O R Kelu.
It is a significant responsibility of Kerala society to uplift the indigenous communities by keeping pace with the times, the minister said while inaugurating the committee meeting. Only by acknowledging cultural and social aspects of the scheduled castes and tribes could they rise alongside the general society.
The cultural diversity of Kerala is sustained by the tribal and scheduled caste communities. It is essential to introduce them to the broader society and ensure cultural integration, he said.
Promoting their artistic talents, medicinal knowledge and handcrafted products and bringing them to the general public is crucial, the minister stated.
Jointly organised by the SC/ST department and KIRTADS, the main attraction of the fair is the presentation of traditional arts from the tribal communities.

Karnataka mulls special health checks for auto, cab drivers amid spike in heart attacks: Report

5 critical warning signs of heart attack to never ignore during exercise

Exercise is crucial for maintaining heart health, but recognising early warning signs of heart problems during physical activity is equally important. Symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, palpitations, or extreme fatigue during a workout should never be ignored. These can be early indicators of underlying heart conditions like arrhythmia, coronary artery disease, or even heart failure. Listening to your body and understanding the warning signs during exercise can help prevent serious cardiac events. Regular heart check-ups and awareness are essential, especially for those over 30 or with risk factors such as high blood pressure or a sedentary lifestyle. Chest pain to dizziness: Early signs of heart attack while working out A study published on PubMed highlights that many individuals tend to overlook subtle heart symptoms experienced during exercise, such as mild chest discomfort or irregular heartbeat. This neglect significantly increases the risk of serious cardiac events like heart attacks or arrhythmias. Recognising and responding to these early warning signs during physical activity can be crucial. 1. Chest pain or discomfort A heavy, squeezing, or pressure‑like sensation in the chest, often radiating to the left arm, neck, jaw, or back, is a red flag. Even mild discomfort that recurs with exertion should not be dismissed as mere muscle soreness or fatigue. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Many Filipinos don't know about this! Excessive shortness of breath Feeling breathless during intense exercise is expected, but struggling to breathe during light activity or while resting indicates that the heart may not be pumping efficiently. 3. Dizziness, light‑headedness, or fainting These symptoms may signal a drop in blood pressure or abnormal rhythm, leading to insufficient blood flow to the brain. They should be treated with urgency. 4. Palpitations or irregular heartbeat An unusually fast, fluttering, or skipped heartbeat may point to arrhythmias, heart rhythm disturbances that warrant immediate medical evaluation. 5. Overwhelming fatigue or weakness Feeling excessively exhausted during or soon after mild activity, especially when it's out of sync with your fitness level, could suggest an inability of the heart to supply proper blood flow to the body. Additional signs and indicators of a heart attack Discomfort beyond the chest: Pain or pressure in the arms, neck, back, stomach, or jaw may also be early indicators of a cardiac episode. Excessive sweating, nausea, or feeling faint: When symptoms like these arise alongside chest discomfort or breathlessness, they may signal a heart attack. Swelling of the legs, ankles, or feet (edema): This can point to heart failure, as inadequate cardiac output causes fluid retention. Who is at higher risk of exercise-induced heart attacks Individuals over 30 starting intense workouts after a sedentary lifestyle People with high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol Smokers or those with a history of smoking Family history of heart disease or sudden cardiac arrest People experiencing high stress or poor sleep patterns Also read | How to identify cancerous lumps: Key signs, common locations, and when to see a doctor Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Happy Independence Day wishes, messages , and quotes !

Why is skin cycling worth the hype? A fresh spin on skincare

(Image Credits: Pinterest) If you're too active on TikTok and YouTube, you must have heard or seen videos of skin cycling. This is the latest viral beauty trend that calls for alternating the products available in your nighttime regimen. Skin cycling has you switch out active ingredients, so you may avoid over-exfoliation and potential irritation issues as well. But is it worth all the hype, or is it just another flashy name trend with basic skin hygiene? Let's dig deep and understand the meaning and benefits of this beauty trend. What is skin cycling ? Skin cycling is a systematic way to apply your evening skincare ingredients, which mainly include retinoids and exfoliants, on a four-night rotation course. The concept is mainly based on respecting the skin barrier and then fostering long-term skin resilience. The standard cycle involves: (Image Credits: Pinterest) Night 1: Exfoliation and resurfacing Night 2: Retinoid Nights 3 and 4: Recovery and repair. (You can just repeat this cycle.) The primary aim is to prevent over-exfoliation and irritation, which happens with multiple active layers of product, which the skin ultimately cannot adapt to. Skin cycling involves deliberate rest days to strengthen the skin's barrier and thus helps in clear skin promotion without causing inflammation. Skincare for stress and fatigue: 5 ways to revive your tired skin Explaining the science behind this routine The science behind slowing down with your skin cycling did not come with a catchy name, but it's a genuine skincare approach. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo It says that our skin does not require overusing exfoliants like AHAs, BHAs, and other scrubs. Even the application of retinol and basic skincare serums like vitamin C every day is not healthy for our skin. So one can use all but one on different days, leading to decreased breakouts, sensitivity, and flakiness. (Image Credits: Pinterest) Why are people loving this? It simplifies the skincare regime and provides structure with clarity every day. This also alleviates irritation and provides a sense of relief for people who have ever had raw and overworked skin. Skin cycling further builds confidence for beginners, allowing one to plan out their regimen depending on their skin texture and requirements. This choice gives clarity without the sense of feeling overwhelmed every day. Lastly, skin cycling also aligns with your skin's biology and does not need to be pushed every night. But it allows you to be content and see the magic in letting it rest. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Happy Independence Day wishes, messages , and quotes !
