Two major parks in Nizwa, Jabal Akhdar to be ready in 2026
Nizwa – The governorate of Dakhliyah is pushing ahead with the development of two major public parks and a series of infrastructure upgrades, aimed at promoting domestic tourism and enhancing recreational facilities for residents and visitors. The park projects are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2026.
Sheikh Hilal bin Saeed al Hajri, Governor of Dakhliyah, said that over 30% of construction work on Nizwa Public Park has been completed. Spanning 150,000sqm, the park will include an artificial lake, green spaces, playgrounds and shaded seating areas. Plans also call for the planting of 3,920 trees, including 520 shade trees and 3,400 flowering shrubs.
The park will feature an educational medical garden to raise awareness of medicinal plants and their health benefits, particularly targeting students and the wider community. Other facilities include a library, sports grounds, and fitness zones.
In Jabal Akhdar, construction of a RO1mn park is 25% complete. Covering around 20,000sqm, the park will offer public areas, children's play zones, a bicycle track, and sports paths. More than 1,000 trees will be planted, and 5,000sqm will be reserved for green landscaping.
The park will also house a multi-use open-air theatre, prayer rooms, restrooms, and designated zones for investment, including a café and an electronic games area.
'These parks are part of a broader plan to create integrated green spaces that serve the community, strengthen social bonds, and contribute to sustainable development in the governorate,' Sheikh Hilal said.
In parallel, the wilayat of Jabal Akhdar is witnessing development projects worth over RO4.5mn, aimed at strengthening infrastructure, tourism, and public services. These include upgrades to the road network, recreational facilities, and service-related developments intended to raise the overall standard of living.
Among the completed works is a project to design and implement internal roads in Jabal Akhdar at a cost of RO1.37mn. A second phase, costing RO1.4mn, is currently under way, with more than 10% completed so far.
Sheikh Hilal also confirmed that consultancy work for the dualisation of the main entrance road to Jabal Akhdar is nearing completion.

NIZWA: Al Dakhiliyah Governorate has launched six new investment opportunities worth over RO 5 million as part of the Jebel Shams Waterfront Project in the Wilayat of Al Hamra. These opportunities are available through the Tatweer platform and span more than 70,000 square meters. The new offerings include a mix of tourism, agriculture, and entertainment ventures, reflecting efforts to diversify the local economy and promote investment in key sectors. The full project spans 145,000 square metres, with a total estimated investment of RO 11 million. Annual returns are projected to exceed RO 1.26 million. According to the Governor, the waterfront development blends the rugged beauty of Jebel Shams with contemporary architectural elements. Highlights include a 500-seat amphitheater, educational facilities, and a 250-meter-long recreational slide. A geological exhibition is also planned to showcase Oman's rich geodiversity. Tourism, infrastructure projects get RO7.7mn push in Dakhliyah
Muscat – Dakhliyah Governor's Office signed several agreements on Tuesday for development and service projects of total investment exceeding RO7.7mn. The agreements include key infrastructure initiatives, tourism development and the use of artificial intelligence for project monitoring. Sheikh Hilal bin Saeed al Hajri, Governor of Dakhliyah, said the projects reflect the governorate's vision to 'improve the quality of life, strengthen the local economy and fulfill citizens' needs'. The agreements cover major road projects, including 13km of internal roads in Samail, the Al Najid-Wadi Andam road paving project, and additional roadworks in Izki (20.5km), Adam (16.6km) and Bahla (11km). Tourism development projects include upgrades to Jabreen Castle's entrance in Bahla, which will increase parking space and restore the entrance to match the fort's architectural style. Improvements will also be made to the road leading to the Salut Archaeological Visitor Centre, enhancing access while preserving its historical character. In partnership with Petroleum Development Oman, a 1km long health track of 5m width will be developed in Izki featuring dedicated walking and cycling paths. A memorandum of understanding was also signed to use artificial intelligence and drone technology to monitor project completion rates and ensure adherence to timelines. This initiative aims to improve efficiency and accuracy in project tracking. The agreements align with Dakhliyah's broader strategy to enhance infrastructure, promote tourism and integrate advanced technologies into development planning.
