Revealed: The Premier League free agent replacing Rio Ferdinand for TNT Sports' coverage of the Community Shield
TNT Sports' replacement for Rio Ferdinand for their coverage of the Community Shield is a Premier League star who is a free agent, it has been revealed. Ferdinand had provided punditry for TNT Sports (previously known at BT Sport) for a decade but announced in May that he will be departing to focus on his business interests. Premier League champions Liverpool take on FA Cup winners Crystal Palace at Wembley on Sunday, with the game being shown on TNT Sports as opposed to ITV. TNT Sports have drafted in a replacement for Ferdinand for this game, with a former Palace player being selected. Joel Ward is currently a free agent having left Palace in the summer following 13 years at the club. As reported by TalkSport, Ward is set to provide an insight into how Oliver Glasner 's team are shaping up ahead of the new campaign. Ward made 364 appearances for Palace and featured for the club in the Championship before their promotion to the Premier League in 2013. He was an unused substitute in last season's FA Cup final win against Manchester City and lifted the trophy alongside Marc Guehi. Steve McManaman, Joe Cole and Fara Williams are also set to be part of TNT Sports' coverage along with Michail Antonio, who recently left West Ham. When he announced his decision to leave TNT Sports, Ferdinand said: 'After 10 incredible years, I have made the difficult decision to step away from TNT Sports after the Champions League final. 'Since retiring from football it has been a privilege talking about the game I love for a decade for sports fans watching on BT Sports and TNT Sports. 'I want to acknowledge the tremendous support from the team behind the scenes, whose hard work often goes unseen, but has been essential to our success. 'To everyone at TNT Sports, we have a brilliant end to the season to look forward to on Saturday, and for now all focus will be on what I think could go down as one of the great European finals. 'The network continues to thrive with more rights than ever, and I look forward to following its progress and the exciting future that lies ahead. 'Lastly, I would like to thank my family and my management company New Era for their ongoing support. 'They have supported me to travel all over the Europe following the best players and watching the best matches. For a football fan like me, it's been a dream come true. 'As I turn the page to the next chapter. I carry with me countless memories. 'I'm excited about what the future holds, spending more time with my family, focusing on Rio Ferdinand Presents and my other business interests.

Ronnie O'Sullivan warned he will NOT win another World Snooker Championship because of two concerns
DOMINIC DALE cannot see Ronnie O'Sullivan winning a record eighth Crucible crown – because he feels he lacks longevity for the Sheffield marathon event. O'Sullivan, 49, has been champion of the world on seven occasions and is tied with Scotsman Stephen Hendry on the number of snooker Championships. 4 4 Last May, the sport's GOAT reached the semi-finals of the World Championship but was crushed with a session to spare by Chinese superstar Zhao Xintong. Earlier this year in Leicester, the Rocket smashed up his favourite cue in a moment of rage and as he searched for a replacement, he limited his playing time and withdrew from several tournaments. O'Sullivan, who turns 50 in December, returns to action on Tuesday in the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters in Jeddah. But former pro Dale – who retired from the professional ranks at the end of the last season – cannot see a fairytale finish to his career, especially as he enters his sixth decade on the planet. Asked if O'Sullivan will win an unprecedented eighth world title, the cueist known as Spaceman, 53, said: 'Hmmm. No. But I will qualify that if I may – I certainly think that he can. 'He would have to do it in the next couple of years. 'But you know, the standard of play, you only need a couple of bad sessions and Ronnie will have a couple of bad sessions, he seems to anyway. 4 4 'I don't know if he has the longevity in him to play the full 17 days and to keep winning to lift that eighth world title. 'The other consideration you have to throw into the melting pot I suppose – would he find a cue that he was able to play as well with? 'Because, of course, he broke his previous cue back in January. He had had that since 2012.'

Lineker and Corbyn join Mo Salah in condemnation of Uefa tribute to ‘Palestinian Pele'
Gary Lineker and Jeremy Corbyn have joined footballer Mohamed Salah in condemning Uefa's tribute to the late Suleiman Al-Obeid, known as the 'Palestinian Pele'. Al-Obeid, 41, was killed when Israeli forces targeted civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, according to the Palestine Football Association (PFA). In a post paying tribute to the footballer on social media platform X, Uefa said: 'Farewell to Suleiman al-Obeid, the 'Palestinian Pele'. A talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times'. Liverpool player Mohamed Salah, called out the governing body for failing to reference the circumstances of his death, saying: 'Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?' Now, Gary Lineker, former England footballer and TV presenter, has taken to Instagram to share an article about the backlash to Uefa's post, writing: 'We can't hear you Uefa'. Jeremy Corbyn has also backed Salah's comments on X, saying: 'Well said Mo!'. Salah's social media post has so far been viewed by 73.4 million users. The Liverpool forward, 33, who has more than 19 million X followers, previously called for the massacres in the conflict to stop and for aid to be allowed into Gaza. In a video posted on Instagram in October 2023, he wrote: "It is not always easy to speak in times like this. There has been too much violence and too much heartbreak and brutality. "The escalations in the recent weeks is unbearable to witness. All lives are sacred and must be protected. The massacres need to stop. Families are being torn apart." The PFA said that Al-Obeid, who was married with two sons and three daughters, made 24 appearances for the national team, scoring twice. He was nicknamed the "Palestinian Pele", the PFA said. At least 38 Palestinians were killed overnight on Tuesday and into Wednesday while seeking aid from United Nations convoys and sites run by an Israeli-backed American contractor, according to local health officials. The Israeli military said it had fired warning shots when crowds approached its forces, but that it was not aware of any casualties. Nasser Hospital, which received the bodies, said another four people were killed in the Teina area, on a route leading to a site in southern Gaza run by the Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, an American contractor. The Al-Awda Hospital said it received the bodies of six people killed near a GHF site in central Gaza. Another 12 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes, according to the two hospitals. GHF said there were no violent incidents at or near its sites. The military says it tries to avoid harming civilians and blames their deaths on Hamas because its militants are entrenched in heavily populated areas. The United Nations has said that more than 1,300 people have been killed near aid distribution sites and aid convoys in Gaza since the launch of the US and Israel-backed aid distribution system, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
