Malaysia, Indonesia to spearhead single global halal logo

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Indonesia are leading discussions towards consolidating the halal logo at the global level, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Deputy Prime Minister said they are hoping to bring this up at the World Halal Council meeting, set to be held in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, in November this year.
'I have discussed this with our Indonesian counterparts in the past few days and we have also discussed this matter during the Kazan dialogue in Russia.
'If we have very strong willpower, it can be accepted globally. Halal is not only for Muslims but for everyone,' he said to the media after taking part in a forum discussion at the Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Economic Forum held here on Wednesday (May 28).
Ahmad Zahid, who is the Halal Industry Development Council of Malaysia chairman, said this was aimed at having only one halal logo.
'This means we may not need differing halal logos across different countries, but instead use the standard that is used by the Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim) as the benchmark on how halal certifications are issued,' he said.
'We will not compromise on halal standards. Jakim has a very high standard of halal certification as well, which has been recognised by 88 halal bodies globally, with Jakim also providing accreditation," he said.
Ahmad Zahid also said there are 40 countries that have established cooperation with Jakim on this matter.

'Let us be on the front line so we can help other countries. We have also seen GCC countries being very committed towards Malaysia's efforts here.
'China too has previously held discussions with us on this matter,' he said.
He said halal is not only something marketed within the region but instead globally.
On another matter, Ahmad Zahid said they are also looking to form an Asean Halal Council, alongside establishing a Halal Commission.
He said a working paper on establishing the Halal Commission is in the works.
'I am chairing the formation of this commission which will not take up any additional allocations but instead use the Halal Development Corporation to implement it,' he said.
Earlier Wednesday, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said his ministry will be bringing the working paper on the establishment of the Halal Commission to the Cabinet.
'We are currently obtaining feedback from the related stakeholders and other ministries. Once it is passed, we will reveal more details on this,' he said.

Diplomatic corps praises King's role in regional diplomacy, national unity

KUALA LUMPUR: The esteemed patronage and leadership of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, have earned praise from the diplomatic community for enhancing Malaysia's diplomatic standing and promoting national unity. Yemen's Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Adel Mohamed Ba Hamid, commended Sultan Ibrahim's steadfast support for Malaysia's Chairmanship of Asean this year, including His Majesty's role in strengthening Malaysia's voice on the regional stage. Adel Mohamed also acknowledged His Majesty's consistent message of inclusivity and harmony, particularly the call for Malaysians to embrace unity in diversity, a timely appeal amid rising global polarisation. "Under Your Majesty's guidance, Malaysia has continued to enjoy political stability. "This stability enables the government to plan for the long term and seize emerging opportunities in the green and digital economies to create high-quality jobs for Malaysians," he said in a congratulatory speech on behalf of the diplomatic corps at the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with His Majesty's official birthday celebration at Istana Negara today. Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, graced the occasion. Also present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, Dewan Negara President Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and cabinet members. Adel Mohamed also highlighted the success of the recently concluded 46th Asean Summit and the Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)-China Summit, chaired by Anwar, which underscored the importance of multilateral collaboration amid global uncertainty. "Leaders from Asean, as well as Timor-Leste, the GCC and China, were also honoured to attend the royal luncheon hosted by Your Majesty, which highlighted Your Majesty's enduring support for regional integration," he said. The ambassador also conveyed the diplomatic corps' best wishes to Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Zarith Sofiah, praying for their continued good health and happiness. Adel Mohamed said the diplomatic community in Malaysia stands ready to work closely with His Majesty, the Malaysian government and the Malaysian people. The diplomatic corps also congratulated all recipients of federal awards, honours and medals at the ceremony, describing the recognition as a testament to their longstanding contributions to Malaysia's growth. – Bernama

National TVET Day celebration - A Manifestation of govt's commitment to produce dynamic workforce

KUALA LUMPUR: National TVET Day, celebrated annually on June 2, is a manifestation of the government's determination and commitment to positioning Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a primary pathway in producing a dynamic, highly skilled, and future-ready workforce. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the celebration highlighted the progress of the country's TVET ecosystem as a key driver of human capital development, while also serving as a platform that offers educational and career opportunities in the TVET sector through the involvement of various stakeholders. In a post on X in conjunction with the National TVET Day celebration today, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the National TVET Council Committee chairman, said the efforts made were in line with the Malaysia MADANI framework, which places the TVET agenda as one of the priorities. The efforts, he said, include expanding access to TVET education to rural students, improving training facilities, and encouraging youth who want to build future careers through skills. 'In fact, with the strong support of various parties, including the government, private sector, educational institutions and the community, TVET will remain the main thrust in building a more inclusive, progressive and globally competitive Malaysia,' he said. In this regard, Ahmad Zahid invited the public to join in the celebration of National TVET Day 2025, to be held from June 11 to 13 at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC), Melaka. The theme of this year's TVET celebration is 'TVET, the Top Career Choice'.
