Karachi to host National Women's T20 tournament from 7th
LAHORE: A prize pot of over Rs three million will be up for grabs in the five-team National Women's T20 Tournament 2024-25, which will get underway from May 7 at two venues in Karachi - National Bank Stadium and HPC Oval Ground.
This year's edition will feature five teams Challengers, Conquerors, Invincibles, Stars, and Strikers. Competing in a double-league format, each team will play eight matches with a total of 22 matches slated to take place across 18 days.
The teams finishing second and third on the points table will face off in a Qualifier on 22nd May, with the winner advancing to meet the top-ranked team in the final on 24th May. The final will be played at the National Bank Stadium.
A total of 80 cricketers will participate in the tournament, which carries a prize pool of over Rs three million. The champions will receive Rs 1.5 million, while the runners-up will take home Rs one million.
Among the players featuring, five national players who were part of Pakistan's victorious squad at the recently-concluded ICC Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2025 will lead their respective sides– Fatima Sana (Conquerors), Gull Feroza (Strikers), Muneeba Ali (Invincibles), Rameen Shamim (Challengers) and Sidra Amin (Stars).
As part of the PCB's continued efforts to promote and expand the reach of women's cricket, both the Qualifier (22nd May) and the Final (24th May) will be live-streamed on PCB's official YouTube channel. All matches in the tournament will begin at 3pm PKT.

In the mens category, Padel Star comprising brilliant duo of Aamil and Murtazain, emerged victorious in a gripping final against Katch Brothers which were represented by M. Azhar & Nafees Yaqoob. Padel Star won by 2-0 (6-3, 7-6) to claim the championship title. In the third place match, Tigers Team (Rayyan Younas & Abdullah) secured bronze via walkover (1-0) against Gar Gala Team (Farhan Mustafa & Abdul Rehman). In the women's category, TRIBS team comprising the skillful pair of Natalia and Natasha dominated the final against MUV team which was represented by Mehak Tehrani & Saira Umer. TRIBS won 2-0 (6-1, 8-6). The third place match saw Control X Power Team (Safina & Neha Khan) triumph over Sister Squad (Sher Beg & Saleena Beg) by 2-0 (7-5, 6-3) victory. In the Boys Under-14 category, the talented Super Striker Team (Azhar & Mustafa) outplayed Allawala Team (Ansarullah & Azhar Allawala) in the final to win by 2-0 (7-5, 6-0). The third place match was a thrilling encounter, with A2 Brothers (Arsh & Azan) edging past Shaheen Team (M. Bin Haris & Rayyan) by 2-1 (7-5, 5-7, 7-5). The winning teams received a handsome prizemoney of Rs 100,000 along with the trophies while the runner-up teams received Rs 50,000 with trophies. Third position holders received Rs 25,000 along with the trophies. The tournament was played under the auspices of Pakistan Padel Federation (PPF) and under the umbrella of the International Padel Federation (FIP), Padel Asia in collaboration with the Sindh Padel Association and Sport On Clifton, Karachi.

Mentors refuse to quit after tourney scrapped
Mentors appointed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for last year's Champions Cup are refusing to step down despite their roles being declared redundant. While Shoaib Malik has resigned voluntarily, the remaining four — Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Waqar Younis — are holding out, potentially forcing the PCB to pay Rs 20 million in compensation. Details have emerged that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had appointed five mentors for the Champions Cup in August last year. These included Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik, and Waqar Younis. From the beginning, their hefty monthly salary of Rs 5 million each had been a topic of debate. Recently, the PCB decided to scrap the Champions Cup due to unsatisfactory results and replace it with the Pentangular Cup. Logically, this also meant the mentors were no longer needed. Sensing the inevitable, Shoaib Malik resigned voluntarily, but the remaining four have maintained silence. Sources say some of them are deliberately waiting to be officially dismissed so they can claim compensationfour months' salary amounting to Rs 20 million as per their contracts. A few days ago, the PCB unofficially conveyed through informal channels that their services were no longer required, expecting they might resign on their own. However, since that hasn't happened, the board may be forced to explore other options. Sources further revealed that during their job interviews, these mentors had claimed they were forgoing lucrative opportunities — coaching gigs, TV shows, commentary, and league contracts — to serve the nation. That emotional pitch helped them secure record-breaking salaries. Ironically, many of them continued with their other engagements despite being appointed by the board. After only a few months of paying hefty salaries, the authorities realized the initiative wasn't yielding the expected benefits. Reportedly, some mentors have even warned the PCB that if removed, they would launch criticism campaigns on media.

President's Trophy Grade-II: MIT Solutions, Sahir Associates to contest
LAHORE: MIT Solutions and Sahir Associates will go head to head in the final of the President's Trophy Grade-II at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium from 29th May to 1st June as the 2024-25 domestic season comes to an end. The winner of the tournament will also qualify for the departmental first-class tournament - President's Trophy Grade-I 2025-26. The two teams have played eight three-day matches each and will get a chance to bag Rs five million if they win the final; a non-first-class four-day affair, while the runners up will bag Rs 2.5 million. Out of a total prize pot of Rs 7.75 million, there will also be awards for individual performances. In the Group stage, Sahir Associates topped the Group D by winning four matches, while two of their games were drawn. Their quarter final and semi final fixtures against Ghani institute and JDW Sugar Mills respectively were drawn but they advanced to the next stage based on first innings lead both in the games. Sahir Associates' wicketkeeper-batter Asim Ali Nasir is second on the leading run-scorer list with 735 runs in 12 innings just six behind PAF's Atteq-ur-Rehman who sits atop. Asim has affected 23 dismissals behind the stumps. On the bowling front Mohammad Bilawal and Shahid Ali; both left arm pacers, have aided Sahir Associates' campaign with 31 and 22 scalps, respectively. MIT Solutions, who finished second in Group C with three wins, one loss and two draws out of six games, too took first innings lead in their drawn quarter final and semi final matches against Kingsmen and Wing 999, respectively. The batting duo of Muhammad Afzal (491 runs) and Husnain Nadeem (483 runs) has been prolific for MIT solutions.
