Report: Newcastle Utd face £150M decision over top scorer's future
Newcastle United's summer strategy faces a significant test amid growing uncertainty surrounding their star forward, who has made clear his desire to explore options elsewhere.
The player in question has not travelled with the squad for their pre-season tour of Singapore and South Korea, officially due to a minor thigh complaint. However, senior figures at Newcastle are aware of his inclination to consider a move in the current transfer window.
With three years remaining on his existing contract, the club is under no immediate pressure to sell. Talks had been expected this summer over a potential new deal, with Chief Executive Darren Eales indicating earlier in the year that negotiations would be addressed once the season concluded. At present, those discussions have not materialised.
Despite the player's current stance, Newcastle's preference is to retain him and reopen talks on an extension. If needed, a transfer could be revisited in 2026.
Liverpool interest adds weight to potential £150M record deal
Interest from Liverpool has intensified in recent weeks, with the Premier League giants exploring the possibility of submitting a British record bid, understood to be in the region of £150M.
Such a figure would surpass the £116M Liverpool recently paid for Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz, underlining their ambition in the transfer market under new manager Arne Slot.
While Newcastle are reluctant to lose their leading scorer, they recognise that any bid close to £150M — combined with the player's own willingness to move — could compel them to enter negotiations.
Howe's plans unsettled as forward stays behind
Eddie Howe's preparations have been disrupted by the ongoing uncertainty. The forward did not feature in Newcastle's recent 4-0 defeat against Celtic and was granted leave to return home. Officially, this was attributed to managing his recovery, but sources suggest the decision also took into account the speculation surrounding his future.
Howe indicated post-match that he expected the player to rejoin the group during the Asia tour. However, that now appears unlikely as the situation remains unresolved.
The forward has scored 62 goals in 109 appearances for the club and has become a pivotal figure under Howe, whose coaching has elevated him to among the most in-demand attacking players in Europe.
Contract strength may yet shift Newcastle's stance
While Newcastle remain firm in their stance to retain the forward, their contractual position gives them leverage. They are not under financial pressure to sell, and any transfer would have to be on their terms — both in valuation and timing.
Should a suitable offer materialise and the player continue to push for a move, the situation could develop rapidly in the final weeks of the window. For now, Newcastle remain calm but are aware that circumstances may force a decision sooner than they'd prefer.

This is a new dynasty that is tailored more in their image, and a gradual stepping away from the Jurgen Klopp era, which was undeniably successful at Liverpool. Nonetheless, new ideas and fresh faces are always welcome in order to inspire an evolution and that is what Hughes will be wanting to achieve. These changes do not just involve players coming and going. We have seen a number of staff changes as well with the likes of Xavi Valero and Giovanni van Bronckhorst appointed in prominent positions in Arne Slot's backroom. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range Not to mention it's not just the first team making changes but the academy as well. Notably Barry Lewtas, the club's U21 coach and Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, the club's U18 coach have both left the club. They have been replaced by Rob Page at U21 level, and Simon Wiles at U18 level. The duo come with impressive resumes. Page achieved a lot of success with Wales at senior level and he was very effective at promoting young Welsh talent into the national team. Wiles has worked at Salford City's first team and was poached from Manchester United in what is regarded as a major coup by the Reds. He's not the only new addition to the club's academy either.

Darwin Nunez future takes fresh twist as new club make Liverpool star top summer transfer target
Nunez on AC Milan's radar Rossoneri favour Liverpool striker Al-Hilal hold rival interest Follow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱 WHAT HAPPENED? According to Sky in Italy, AC Milan "will make a serious attempt" to equip returning head coach Massimiliano Allegri with a new striker, with an effort to sign Nunez from Liverpool already made. For sporting director Igli Tare, the Uruguayan is considered the number one target from a list that also includes Dusan Vlahovic, Rasmus Hojlund and Arnaud Kalimuendo. THE BIGGER PICTURE Contact with Nunez's camp is said to have been made, but negotiations remain "complicated". There is rival interest from Saudi Pro League giants and Club World Cup quarter-finalists Al-Hilal, who are yet to make a formal offer. DID YOU KNOW? Milan's three centre forward from last season - Luka Jovic, Tammy Abraham, Santiago Gimenez - managed only 10 Serie A goals between then, with Gimenez the only one still at the club. A more prolific number nine is required and, at his previous best, Nunez netted 26 goals in 28 Primeira Liga games for Benfica during a breakout 2021-22 campaign in Portgual. WHAT NEXT? Nunez has been linked with Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Al-Nassr already this summer, with nothing ultimately materialising. Milan's finances might not stretch to Liverpool's reported €60 million (£52m/$70m) asking price, which is perhaps why negotiations aren't straightforward for the Rossoneri. Al-Hilal might have a better chance in that sense, if Nunez can be persuaded to leave Europe, but leaving Liverpool in some capacity is in his best interests unless he wants to spend a season on the bench behind Hugo Ekitike, and possibly Alexander Isak too.

WASTED by Potato Head Taps Max Lamb For Its First Homeware Collection
Summary WASTED byPotato Headhas unveiled Collection 001, a new homeware line co-designed with British innovatorMax Lamb. This debut capsule transforms local waste into functional art, marrying Potato Head's 'Good Times, Do Good' ethos with Lamb's experimental, process-driven approach. Handmade in Bali by skilled local artisans, the collection embraces Indonesia's rich craft heritage while supporting the island's ambitious 99.5% landfill diversion rate. Spanning eight material families – from recycled HDPE plastics and natural dyes extracted from composted botanicals to retired hotel linens, mouth-blown glass, used cooking oils, salvaged ceramics, Styrofoam-oyster shell composites and hand-woven Balinese bamboo – the range reimagines waste as a creative resource. Employing techniques such as marigold and indigo dyeing, ceramic glazing, plastic casting, traditional weaving, and glassblowing, the collection reveals the inherent textures and colors of reclaimed materials. The result is a suite of objects, from marbled plastic chairs and refillable candles to bamboo lounge seating and hand-shaped ceramic vessels, that are both functional and poetic. Rooted in years of in-house research and the island-wide Community Waste Project, Collection 001 exemplifies a closed-loop design system that redefines material value and provenance. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, underscoring the importance of locality, process and human craftsmanship. As Max Lamb observes, 'Designers have a responsibility to justify every product we bring into the world.' Through WASTED's scalable, place-based approach, Potato Head offers a replicable blueprint for circular creativity and conscious living.
