Selena Gomez reveals how Benny Blanco designed her dream engagement ring but she almost changed it

Express Tribune15-02-2025
In a joint interview with Interview Magazine, Selena Gomez, the 32-year-old Only Murders in the Building star, and her fiancé, 36-year-old record producer Benny Blanco, reminisced about choosing her engagement ring.
Although Gomez had envisioned a marquise-style diamond ever since her 2015 song Good For You—which includes the lyrics, "I'm on my marquise diamonds / I'm a marquise diamond"—she admitted to having second thoughts about the design.
"I just tried not to f—k up," Blanco joked during their conversation with editor-in-chief Mel Ottenberg after Gomez stated, "That's the diamond I've always dreamed of."
He elaborated, explaining how she had shown him different designs, and he would subtly drop hints. "I'd be like, 'Yeah, but if I ever made one, would you want it like this?'"
Blanco also revealed that Gomez had a change of heart midway through the process.
"It used to have huge baguettes on the side and then she was like, 'I don't want something that big,'" he recalled.
Gomez responded, "I just think it's too much," but Blanco reassured her that "the end result is perfect."
Because of the design changes, Blanco shared that the extra diamonds wouldn't go to waste. "Yeah, so now I have extra baguettes and we're going to make earrings for her. She basically has three wedding rings."
After dating for a year, Blanco proposed on a set designed to resemble a romantic picnic in Central Park, complete with Taco Bell.
Gomez later announced the engagement on Instagram, sharing a photo of her ring with the caption, "forever begins now.."
Jeweler Claster revealed details about the creation process to Page Six Style, saying, "We started the project earlier this year. Benny, a wonderful creative himself, had specific inspiration, including the center cut, the marquise."
"We worked closely with multiple approaches before our final ring," the jeweler added.
"Benny had a very sharp idea of what he ultimately envisioned. We combined it with our Abril Barret sentiment to capture the essence of an heirloom piece with a modern hand."
In addition to their engagement, the couple has collaborated on a surprise joint album, I Said I Love You First, and released the first single, Scared of Loving You, on Friday.

Selena Gomez reunites with Jennifer Stone from ‘Wizards of Waverly Place'

Selena Gomez has reunited with her Wizards of Waverly Place co-star Jennifer Stone, bringing back memories for longtime fans of the beloved Disney Channel series. The duo, who played best friends Alex Russo and Harper Finkle, recently appeared together in a new social media post that quickly went viral. The reunion marks another nostalgic moment for Disney fans, as Wizards of Waverly Place continues to hold a special place in pop culture over a decade after its finale in 2012. Gomez and Stone shared a behind-the-scenes photo from what appears to be a casual meet-up, smiling and laughing together — echoing the friendship that made their on-screen dynamic so memorable. The reunion follows recent reports that Disney is exploring reboot ideas for classic shows, though neither Gomez nor Stone has confirmed involvement in any new project related to the series. Still, their continued friendship has fans hopeful for future collaborations. Gomez, now a successful singer, actress, and entrepreneur, has often spoken fondly about her Disney roots. Stone, who left acting for a time to become a nurse, recently returned to the entertainment scene and co-hosts the Wizards of Waverly Pod, a podcast that dives into the making of the original show. The Wizards of Waverly Place cast has occasionally reunited at fan events or through virtual appearances, but the spontaneous meetup between Gomez and Stone has especially resonated with longtime viewers. Whether or not this hints at an official reboot, the pair's reunion has reignited fan interest in the magical world they once brought to life.

Selena Gomez reveals wedding dessert preference for future event with Benny Blanco

Selena Gomez has shared an early look at her wedding menu preferences, revealing both her dessert choice and what she plans to avoid when she marries fiancé Benny Blanco. In a new video clip released by her beauty brand Rare Beauty, Gomez said, 'I do know I don't want a big cake,' when asked about the wedding food she envisions. The singer and actress explained she prefers a more modest option: 'I think I'd want a mini one for just us that we can freeze.' Gomez also named her preferred dessert — her grandmother's biscuits and gravy. 'My Nana's biscuits and gravy,' she said. 'That sounds like dessert to me.' Gomez and Blanco announced their engagement in December 2024. However, the couple have not yet begun detailed planning for their wedding, as confirmed by Blanco during a July 10 appearance on the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast. He cited conflicting work schedules, stating they have been 'working on so many things that we hadn't even had time to get into it.' Blanco added that they may set aside time over the summer to begin planning. As for the overall tone of the event, Blanco said he believes it 'will be, like, chill.' Gomez and Blanco have often spoken publicly about their shared interest in food. Blanco previously told PEOPLE that he often creates personalised meals for Gomez and advises others to cook for their partners as a sign of affection.
