CAMPARI'S STAR-STUDDED EVENT AT CANNES FILM FESTIVAL DEBUTS MADS MIKKELSEN'S SIGNATURE TWIST ON THE NEGRONI

CANNES, France, May 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Last night at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Campari celebrated passion and creativity by hosting one of the Croisette's biggest film parties. Acclaimed Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen surprised guests by stepping behind the bar to unveil his own twist on the iconic Negroni – made with smoky mezcal in place of gin and finished with a hint of green mandarin for a fresh citrus lift.
Following an intense filming schedule (The Black Kaiser, Dust Bunny), Mikkelsen returned to Cannes – where he won Best Actor in 2012 for The Hunt – to honour the visionary filmmakers who continue to captivate audiences worldwide. A long-standing favourite at the Festival, Mikkelsen is also known for Doctor Strange and Casino Royale, which have established his reputation as one of the world's most magnetic and versatile screen talents.
Film stars, models and leading names from the world of entertainment including Barbara Palvin (model), Helena Christensen (model), Lucien Laviscount (actor, Emily in Paris), Sabrina Elba (model and activist), Dylan Sprouse (actor), Maria Pedraza (Spanish actress, Money Heist, Elite), Shanina Shaik (model), Grace Elizabeth (model), and Claire Holt (actress, The Vampire Diaries) - gathered on the pier at the Campari-red lit venue for an exquisite dinner, sipping Mikkelsen's signature creation as they debated this year's Palme d'Or contenders.
Mads Mikkelsen said: 'To be back in Cannes, surrounded by such inspiring, passionate filmmakers and storytellers, is always a privilege. The Negroni is an iconic Campari cocktail, served in the world's best bars, making it the perfect mixology creation to honour the incredible films showcased here. Crafting a twist on this classic cocktail felt like a fitting way to mark the occasion. I have been fortunate to have films nominated and even win in Cannes, and this Negroni variation is a tribute to the visionaries who make the festival extraordinary.'
Mikkelsen crafted the Negroni in collaboration with Camparino in Galleria's master mixologist, Tommaso Cecca, inspired by the bold and complex characters he often portrays. Now in its fourth year at Cannes, Campari continues to be a defining presence on the Croisette and the Mads Negroni will be served throughout the week at both the Campari Lounge at the Palais des Festivals, and Hyde Beach by Campari. At its iconic annual event in Cannes, Campari transformed the beach into a bold tribute to cinema.
The actor also featured in a short film, captured during the festival. Behind-the-scenes footage showed him slipping into the role of bartender, mastering the ritual of cocktail creation.
For over 40 years, Campari has celebrated cinema, collaborating with world-class actors and award-winning directors who share its commitment to artistic expression as well as more recently bringing their signature Red Passion to international film festivals.
In 2025, Campari's Cannes programme celebrates creative expression and distinctive voices, featuring highlights such as insightful panels and discussions. Campari is honouring passion at Cannes, hosting exclusive after parties for premiering films like Amrum, Testa O Croce, and Fuori, further establishing Campari's presence as a key cultural force across both of its Croisette venues: the iconic Campari Lounge at the Palais des Festivals and the glamorous Hyde Beach.
Andrea Neri, Managing Director House of Aperitifs, said: 'We are proud to return to Festival de Cannes and celebrate cinema's cocktail of creativity and passion through this exceptional collaboration. Campari stands alongside fearless creatives who defy expectations and push toward the extraordinary, inspiring audiences to do the same. Mads Mikkelsen is a creative force who perfectly captures Campari's passionate spirit – bold, original, and inspiring the extraordinary.'

Inside Netflix's F1: The Academy: Abbi Pulling and the stars ready to shatter racing's glass ceiling

When Abbi Pulling was first asked to join the cast of Netflix's F1: The Academy, she never anticipated the level of attention the series would bring to her pursuit of a Formula 1 dream. With the show landing on the streamer this week, Pulling is about to face a world of scrutiny — but, as she says, it's a 'privilege' and a responsibility. This docuseries is more than just another show about motorsport. It shines a spotlight on the F1 Academy, a women's-only racing competition, which runs as a support series to the main F1 Grand Prix. Following the success of Drive to Survive, the show gives viewers an exclusive look behind the scenes of a sport traditionally dominated by men, showcasing what it really takes to break barriers in one of the world's most demanding industries. The series goes beyond the high-speed races, offering a deeper look at the grit, determination, and passion of the women competing for a fully-funded season in the prestigious GB3 Championship, a single-seater racing series based in the UK. Pulling, 22, who races for Alpine on the show, is the star of the series as she chases the 2024 title. 'It's a huge opportunity,' she told The Standard at Wednesday's London premiere. 'I'm quite scared about what the next week will bring because people are going to either love me or hate me — so we'll see. 'But it's amazing to be here and seeing so much attention on not only women's motorsport but women's sport as a whole. It's another big thing to boost women's sport and hope it helps not just within motorsport but sport as a whole.' The series aims to provide a deep dive into the lives and careers of these rising stars. 'I'm just excited for viewers to see everyone's story and everyone's journey and what everyone has been through, gone through in 2024 and understand what it takes to be a racing car driver,' she added. 'It's such a privilege and we're all so lucky to be here and I'm so happy for the opportunity and to be racing again this year, moving onto a bigger car, a different challenge. It's really exciting and I hope people see that journey and resonate with it or relate to it in show way and the challenges that you've got to face.' Pulling's 2024 F1 Academy title journey has been nothing short of dramatic. Despite her 83-point lead over Mercedes' Doriane Pin, a change in the Abu Dhabi schedule meant Pulling still had to secure pole positions at Yas Marina to guarantee her win. The series' creation has a high-profile backing, with Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine behind the production. 'I met her at the premiere in Miami,' Pulling shared. 'She's so lovely and passionate about motorsport. The whole crew were incredible and really respectful of us. It's a high-intensity environment, and having cameras in your face for both good and bad moments... it was done respectfully. I'm excited for people to see it.' And the excitement isn't just limited to Pulling. Fellow driver Amna Al Qubaisi, who shares the track with her sister Hamda, teased: "You'll see a lot of girls being competitive and very passionate about the sport. I think it's going to be more dramatic than Drive to Survive." American driver Chloe Chambers echoed that enthusiasm, saying, 'I am so excited for this to come out. I really hope people watch it, enjoy it, and want to watch more F1 Academy. That's what I'm looking forward to.' For Bianca Bustamante, the series represents the hard work and dedication of all the drivers involved. 'Everyone has worked so hard to make this a reality,' she said. F1: The Academy is available to stream on Netflix now

Every word from Jeremie Frimpong on Salah, Slot phone call and playing against Liverpool

Jeremie Frimpong revealed that he had phone calls with Arne Slot and Virgil van Dijk after learning of Liverpool's interest in signing him. Frimpong was confirmed as Liverpool's first summer signing on Friday, just hours after Trent Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid was announced. Advertisement The 24-year-old made it apparent during the interview just how keen he was for the deal to happen, as he also said how excited he was to link up with Mohamed Salah. Read the full transcript of the interview below, courtesy of club media: How does it feel? "Thank you, it's a pleasure. I'm playing for Liverpool, what more can I say? My whole family is excited for me, and my girlfriend [is]. So, I'm happy, blessed. "I think it went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer. For me, it was like, 'Whatever you guys do, just get this done', [speaking to] my agents: 'Just get this done.' It went quite smoothly, there were no problems." Energetic. Yeah, I think I can bring a lot of energy to the team." You wanted to join Liverpool when you were younger has that stuck in your mind? "Of course. You always want to play for the top teams as a footballer, as a kid. Of course when I was younger and Liverpool first came, that was a no-brainer as well, but due to transportation and all these sorts of things, I had to go a different way. And look at me now. So, it has worked really well." Have you learned anything from the Dutch players at Liverpool? "Yeah, of course. I have had a few conversations with them. Virgil has called me and told me a little bit more about Liverpool and the expectations, those types of things. And made me feel like the guys are going to welcome me well. That's what I expect from Virgil with how he is in the national team – he's a big character, captain. They have told me good things." Jeremie Frimpong has joined Liverpool -Credit:2025 Liverpool FC We saw you practising your Scouse a little bit a few months ago... "I didn't know it was going to go that viral! For me, it was literally just, obviously Ryan plays for Liverpool and obviously Liverpool is Scouse, so I just did that. I didn't think it was going to blow up like this. But yeah, it was funny, I appreciate the support." Did Anfield make an impression on you, the fans and atmosphere? "One hundred per cent. I think this is the best stadium I played in when I was with Leverkusen: the atmosphere, the fans, the team as well. The whole package is great." How did it feel to face Liverpool? "Ah, you know already, I don't need to say too much about the quality. They won the league. For me, playing against Liverpool when I was in Leverkusen, really difficult. Really, really difficult. How can I say it? Obviously Leverkusen were still good but you can see that Liverpool is next level." You know the language and the culture? "Yeah, exactly. Of course. I was born in Amsterdam but I was raised in England so of course I know the culture. I think I'm going to settle in well." How have you changed over the last few years now you've won league titles in two countries? "One hundred per cent. I was immature back then, I was still a kid (at Celtic). I was just thinking about leaving my friends. That was more important to me at that point because obviously I grew up with them, went to school with them. So for me it was like, 'Ah, I'm not going to see them now.' All my brother gave me was a wake-up call. It was needed, 100 per cent, because I really did want to turn [back] that day. But then my brother was like, 'OK, listen, it's your chance now. You have to show them.' And now I'm here. Of course that mindset has changed, 100 per cent." Is your expectation that this winning can continue and you can add to that with Liverpool? For me, everywhere I've been I've always won things. It's always been the league, cups and the league, so I've always won trebles. So yes, I want to win trebles, I want to win trophies – I play football to win trophies. I want to win as many trophies as possible. Frimpong helped Leverkusen win the Bundesliga in the 2023/24 season -Credit:2025 Liverpool FC Have you had a chance to see any of the scenes over the last few weeks at Liverpool? "Of course I saw that. When that was happening I was on holiday, so obviously I saw it on social media. Amazing! I want to be part of that, 100 per cent." Is it inspiring when you see things like that? "Of course. This is winners, this is why we play football – to make the fans happy. When you win, you celebrate with them. This is what the sport is about. I live for these moments. It's the best feeling ever as a football player." Have you had a chance to speak to Arne yet? "I spoke to the manager a few times. He sounds very positive. He says I can bring a lot of energy and my qualities, my speed. Especially when a manager is talking positively about you, it gives you very good confidence that he believes in you. I've had good conversations with him." How much are you looking forward to working with him? "Yeah, 100 percent. I'm really excited. Even when I was at [the] national team, some of the Feyenoord boys would tell me about him and be like, 'He's the best coach I've ever had.' Things like this. So, I've always heard good things about the coach. Now he's going to be my coach, so I'm excited for that." And Mo Salah is going to be one of your teammates… "Playing with world-class players as a footballer is a great feeling, it's a privilege, like, 'I'm going to be next to Mo Salah.' Not just him, the whole Liverpool squad. Just Liverpool in general, this is a privilege, a blessing that I can be part of it. But I can't wait to link up with him – hopefully we link up well. I'm excited for these things, 100 percent." Jeremie Frimpong has joined Liverpool -Credit:2025 Liverpool FC You're still only 24 but do you think there's room for improvement? "Always. There's never a day [that] goes past where I don't think I can improve. I feel like improving is part of football. Never stay comfortable, never stay complacent. There's always room to improve and to do more as well." What would you like to achieve here? "Look at my tablet and be like, 'Yeah, I've won this trophy, this trophy, this trophy, this trophy.' And then speak to my family and my friends and my teammates about it, 'We've had a good five years.' Yeah, things like that." What's your message to the fans? "Liverpool fans, I'm going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together. I'm just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me and I won't let you guys down and I'll give you the energy that you guys want."

PSG and Inter Milan face off in the Champions League final

MUNICH (AP) — Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan go head-to-head in the Champions League final in Munich on Saturday. European club soccer's biggest prize is at stake between two teams that have felt the pain of falling at the last hurdle in recent years. Inter was a losing finalist against Manchester City in 2023 and PSG lost in its only final against Bayern Munich in 2020. After spending billions of dollars and signing some of the sport's greatest players like Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, PSG is still waiting to win its first Champions League title. Those superstars have now departed, but coach Luis Enrique has assembled one of the most exciting squads in Europe, with the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia filling the void left by that trio. Enrique is aiming to win the competition for the second time as a coach, having lifted it with Barcelona in 2015, and would become the seventh coach to win the trophy with different teams. 'The motivation for me is to win the Champions League title for the first time for PSG,' he said. 'That is the gift I want to give the people, the club, the city.' Inter was looking for a treble just over a month ago, but is now left with the Champions League as its only possible trophy. It lost the Italian title by a point and was knocked out of the Italian Cup in the semifinals. 'These players in these four years did a lot — won a lot and lost sometimes. It happens. But we all gave our all, everyone. We are proud to be Inter,' coach Simone Inzaghi said. 'I dreamed of playing the Champions League final. I didn't do it as a player, but thanks to this group of players I've been in two finals as a head coach.' Inter has won the Champions League or European Cup on three occasions, most recently in 2010. When does the Champions League final begin? The match at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. local time (1900 GMT). ___ James Robson is at ___ AP soccer:
