AsiaSat operates six in-orbit satellites: AsiaSat 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, along with associated teleport infrastructure. The withdrawal of access to AS-5 and AS-7 signals a decisive shift in India's approach to satellite communications, aligning it more closely with national security and strategic autonomy goals.
IN-SPACe, in a communication dated July 21, 2025, confirmed that Inorbit Space Telecommunications had been authorised to provision AS-5 and AS-7 capacity until March 2026. After that, the satellites can no longer be used for communication services in India.
Inorbit Space Telecommunications was incorporated on June 20, 2024 and has Rajdeepsinh Gohil and Rohit Arora as directors. Gohil, who is the MD of Inorbit Space Telecommunications, has been associated with AsiaSat for over a decade in multiple roles, according to his LinkedIn profile.
'Further clarification with regard to authorisation of these satellites, if any, may be sought from IN-SPACe, being the nodal agency for matters related to authorisation of satellites,' the MIB said in its advisory.
This directive aligns with the broader regulatory overhaul introduced last year, which requires all satellite TV channels and teleport operators to obtain government-backed authorisation via IN-SPACe before using foreign satellite capacity.
On July 10, 2024, the MIB permitted a temporary extension for existing foreign satellite capacity arrangements in C, Ku, or Ka bands until March 31, 2025. This was later extended to September 30, 2025.
All fresh applications for satellite capacity authorisation must now be submitted by Indian entities such as subsidiaries, joint ventures, or authorised representatives of the foreign satellite operator through the IN-SPACe portal.
'Fresh authorisation from IN-SPACe shall be required for non-Indian satellites already provisioning their capacity in India,' the advisory said. It added that no additional capacity or new foreign satellites will be permitted without such authorisation after September 30, 2025.
From October 1, 2025, only non-Indian satellites explicitly authorised by IN-SPACe will be allowed to offer their capacity in India across any frequency band.
According to the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), India currently operates a fleet of 19 communication satellites across C, extended C, Ku, Ka/Ku and S bands. Of these, 12 are managed by NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), the commercial arm of the Department of Space.

Meanwhile, Trump, in an interview with CNBC responded to a question on China and its leader, Xi Jinping, and said, 'We have a very good relationship". Trump added that he might have a meeting with the Chinese President 'before the end of the year, most likely, if we make a deal." He said he won't have a meeting if a deal doesn't materialise. 'But we're getting very close to a deal. We're getting along with China very well." Trump added that China is 'very reliant" on the US. 'My relationship with them is very good. I think we'll make a good deal. It's not imperative, but I think we're going to make a good deal." He added that he has had a 'great relationship" with President Xi. 'We respect him a lot. CCI okays Dalmia Bharat's proposal to acquire Jaiprakash Associates
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Tuesday approved Dalmia Bharat 's proposal to acquire the debt-laden Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL), which is going through the insolvency resolution process . Live Events "The proposed combination envisages 100 per cent acquisition of Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL) by Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd (acquirer) pursuant to a corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (IBC)," the regulator said in a release. Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Dalmia Bharat Ltd (DBL), which is the flagship company of the Dalmia Bharat Group. DBL is primarily engaged in the manufacture and sale of cement. On the other hand, Jaiprakash Associates operates in multiple sectors including cement, real estate, hospitality, and engineering, procurement and construction. JAL is engaged in diverse business activities viz, real estate, cement, hospitality, engineering, procurement, and construction. "Commission approves proposed acquisition of Jaiprakash Associates Ltd by Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd," CCI said in a post on X. A similar combination notice has also been filed with the CCI by the Adani Group as part of the same insolvency process. JAL was admitted into the CIRP through the National Company Law Tribunal , Allahabad Bench, order dated June 3, 2024. It was taken to insolvency proceedings after the conglomerate defaulted on the payment of loans. Creditors are claiming a staggering Rs 57,185 crore. The National Asset Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL) leads the list of claimants after acquiring the stressed JAL loans from a consortium of lenders headed by the State Bank of India . JAL has major real estate projects like Jaypee Greens in Greater Noida, a part of Jaypee Greens Wishtown in Noida (both on the outskirts of the national capital), and the Jaypee International Sports City, strategically located near the upcoming Jewar International Airport. It also has three commercial/industrial office spaces in Delhi-NCR, while its hotel division has five properties in Delhi-NCR, Mussoorie, and Agra. JAL has four cement plants in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, and a few leased limestone mines in Madhya Pradesh. The cement plants, however, are non-operational. It also has investments in subsidiaries, including Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd, Yamuna Expressway Tolling Ltd, Jaypee Infrastructure Development Ltd, and several other and several other companies. Jaypee Group 's Jaypee Infratech has already been acquired by Mumbai-based Suraksha Group through an insolvency process. Suraksha Group has to complete various stalled projects comprising around 20,000 apartments in Noida and Greater Noida.
