Deacon Blue star tragically dead after courageous cancer battle
"Thank you so much for the messages of support that you shared over the last two weeks, they meant so much to Jim, his family and us." The heartbreaking news comes just days after James was receiving care in the hospital after falling seriously ill.
The band shared last week: "Unfortunately he is seriously ill and undergoing care in hospital. We would like you to join us in wishing him well and to share your love with him." The band - also comprising Ricky Ross, Lorraine McIntosh, Dougie Vipond, Gregor Philp, Lewis Gordon and Tom Gordon -insisted they were given their bandmate's "full blessing" to go on tour without him.
It continued: "We spoke to Jim yesterday about Deacon Blue's plans for the rest of the year, and he encouraged us to continue with love in our hearts and with his full blessing that the shows go ahead, even if it means replacing the irreplaceable James Miller Prime for the time being.
"Together with Jim's family, we want to thank all the nurses, doctors and ICU staff for their ongoing care, professionalism and compassion." James, who was born in Kilmarnock and also worked as a university lecturer, had been with Deacon Blue since its inception in the 1980s.
The band is known for their chart-topping hits such as Dignity, Chocolate Girl and Real Gone Kid. The band has undergone several line-up changes over the years, with past members including Graeme Kelling, Ewen Vernal, Mick Slaven, Scott Fraser, Taj Wyzgowski, Ged Grimes and Chris Henderson.
Deacon Blue's 1987 debut album Raintown reached number 14 in the UK Albums Chart. Their 1989 follow-up When the World Knows Your Name hit number one, with its lead single Real Gone Kid nominated for British Single of the Year at the Brit Awards, ultimately losing to Perfect by Fairground Attraction.
After a hiatus in 1994, the band reunited in 1999 and have remained active ever since.

Strictly Come Dancing's Nadiya's future revealed as she breaks silence on fall
Nadiya Bychkova has broken her silence after falling on her back in a horror fall during Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals. The Strictly professional was rushed to hospital yesterday during rehearsals, The Mirror exclusively revealed. The star was training in north London on Tuesday lunchtime when she was left in agony after injuring herself, with an ambulance being called. An insider told us: "It looked pretty nasty and no-one was taking any chances. The Strictly crew rushed into action and she was stretchered out," with a source close to Strictly adding that rehearsals continued. "As a precaution, following a fall during rehearsals, Nadiya was taken to hospital for checks and is receiving full support from medical and welfare teams. Rehearsals continue and the Strictly team are in close contact with Nadiya," the source said. It comes after a Strictly Come Dancing star pulled out of the show as he made a career announcement. Nadiya has now broken her silence following the horror fall and explained how "scary" it had all been. Fans had been worried about whether she could continue in the competition, which kicks off in a matter of weeks. She wrote on social media: "Well… where do I start? What a 24 hours! Thank you so much for all the messages, love and support. I just wanted you to know that I am ok. I had a fall in training yesterday and landed on my back. "I was really worried for a while and I was so thankful to the Strictly family and medical team who really looked after me. The staff at the hospital were so kind and caring. I'm smiling in the picture but it was really scary and there were a few tears as I had to lie still for hours but I was given the all-clear after an x-ray and allowed to go home." Giving an update, she added: "I've got some physio today but I will be back on that dance floor soon and I'll be ready to shine and sparkle in the new series of the biggest show on TV. I can't wait for you to see it. Keep dancing!" Nadiya horrified Strictly fans when they learned of her fall - but it looks like she will be ok and will be able to dance this series. A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 12:37pm on Tuesday 12 August to reports of an incident at Regent's Park Road, NW1. We sent an ambulance crew to the scene and treated one person before taking them to hospital".

Billi Mucklow shows Andy Carroll what he's missing as Lou Teasdale romance ends in tears
Former TOWIE star Billi Mucklow has unveiled her incredible new figure while on a wholesome family holiday with her kids Billi Mucklow has been showing her ex Andy Carroll exactly what he's missing following his recent split with Lou Teasdale. The Only Way Is Essex icon, 37, was left heartbroken last year when her 11-year relationship with the professional footballer came to an end. What stung even more was the fact that Andy, 36, moved on quickly with celebrity hair-stylist Lou, 41. However, as time has gone on, proud mum Billi appears to have found her spark again and has been showing off her best life on social media. It comes after Billi unveiled her incredible 'revenge body' on Instagram after an impressive weight loss journey. In her latest Instagram offering, Billi shows off her incredible new figure in a brown bikini while on holiday with her loved ones. Billi, who is a proud mum to Arlo, 10, Wolf, 7, and Marvel Mae, 4, posed by the villa pool in Mallorca while sipping on a glass of champagne. Billi also shared some adorable snaps of her daughter Marvel Mae modelling her own personalised jumpsuit. Billi's lookalike daughter stole the hearts of fans who labelled her as an 'angel'. While Billi is enjoying some time away with her and Andy's children, the football star is likely nursing a broken heart after splitting with girlfriend Lou Teasdale after a series of public rows. T he former England footballer was said to be working on the romance following a series of alcohol-fuelled arguments that led to police involvement. He started dating Lou, 41, last year following his quiet split from ex-wife Billi. However, in June, their relationship hit turbulence while on holiday in Greece. Andy was reportedly questioned twice by police, once at a busy restaurant and again at a boutique hotel, over disputes with Lou. It comes as a staff member at the restaurant exclusively told The Mirror at the time: 'We recognised him as the footballer Andy Carroll immediately. "He seemed very drunk and furious with his partner. He was using very bad words. It was improper behaviour. The woman looked very upset," the staff member added. Despite trying to work through their issues, it seems the pair have decided it is now best for them to go their separate ways. The couple no longer appear to follow each other on social media. A source told the Sun: 'Andy got sick of Lou's demands and her influencer lifestyle. She's always posting on social media and he hates that. He told her it was over this week. He's single now.' The couple had issued a joint statement downplaying the events earlier this year. They said: "Whilst having a private dinner in a restaurant on a quiet holiday in Mykonos, we had a heated discussion of the sort that most couples have had on occasion. "It quickly became apparent to the police that there was no reason for them to be there. We went outside the restaurant with them together as they insisted they wanted to 'look after' us. "As far as we are concerned, the situation has been blown out of all proportion by an interested member of the public. No one was arrested, and no one was charged with anything. We are very happy, in love and looking forward to our future together.' Andy reportedly vowed to change following the incident and stayed sober at Glastonbury to prove himself. The couple were later seen at the festival looking close and relaxed. The Mirror has contacted Lou and Andy's representatives for comment.
