Air India crash probe: ‘AAIB totally unbiased…want to stand with truth,' says Civil Aviation Minister Naidu in Rajya Sabha
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, addressing the Upper House during the Question Hour, said the AAIB is 'totally unbiased' and is carrying out a definitive and rule-based probe.
'We want to stand with truth, not anything else… we want to find out what exactly happened in the Air India plane crash and that will come out only after AAIB final probe report,' Naidu said, addressing speculations over the AAIB's preliminary probe report on the Ahmedabad-London Gatwick bound plane, released on July 12.
Naidu also said that in a first of its kind instance, the AAIB has been successful in decoding data from black boxes of the crashed Air India plane in India itself.
The autonomous body's team probing the Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 crash is a multidisciplinary team including its AAIB Director General GVG Yugandhar, an aviation medicine specialist, an air traffic control officer, and representatives from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
While the initial report came under the scanner for being worded beyond the mandate and giving additional details, but selectively, chief Yugandhar said: 'The purpose of the AAIB's investigation and preliminary report is to provide information about 'WHAT' happened… At this stage, it is too early to reach to any definite conclusions. The investigation…is still not complete. The Final Investigation Report will come out with root causes and recommendations,' The full report is expected in about a year's time.
On June 12 (Thursday), the Boeing plane—operating flight AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick—crashed moments after take-off, killing 260 people, including 241 of the 242 on board and 19 on the ground. According to the 15-page report, the flight lasted 'around 30 seconds' between lift-off and crash.

Tharoor ‘opts out' of Operation Sindoor debate, chooses Ports Bill Instead
NEW DELHI: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor declined an invitation from his party to speak during the high-stakes debate on Operation Sindoor in the Parliament, instead chose to focus on the Indian Ports Bill, 2025, party sources said on Monday. Speculation had mounted over whether Tharoor would be selected to speak after his kind of endorsement of the government's response to the Pahalgam terror attack reportedly strained his ties within the Congress. According to a senior party functionary, Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Kodikunnil Suresh had reached out to Tharoor to gauge his interest in participating in the debate, but he expressed no interest and opted to speak on the ports legislation instead. 'Congress party has a practice of asking senior MPs if they wish to speak on key issues. Tharoor said he would prefer to speak on the Ports Bill,' the source said. Tharoor has not publicly commented on the matter, but when earlier asked by reporters if he would speak on Operation Sindoor, he quipped that he was observing a 'maun vrat' (vow of silence).

Chandrababu Naidu eyes Singapore's Tuas Port as model for Andhra Pradesh's maritime transformation
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has stated that the key elements of Singapore's Tuas model would be adapted and replicated in Andhra Pradesh to boost maritime trade and logistics. Mr. Naidu had detailed discussions with Vincent, Regional CEO of the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA), on the port's development, operational strategies, and technological architecture, on Monday, the second day of his visit to the Southeast Asian nation. Stating that the Tuas Port serves as a global benchmark in maritime infrastructure, Mr. Naidu expressed his government's commitment to harness Andhra Pradesh's vast coastline by developing ports and port-led industrial ecosystems. The Chief Minister noted that the scale and precision of the port were impressive, and he showed particular interest in how PSA uses AI and automation to enhance efficiency, reduce turnaround time, and build an environmentally sustainable logistics ecosystem. The Andhra Pradesh government is planning to develop a port every 50 kilometres along its long coastline, positioning the State as a key gateway to Southeast Asia. The proposed model includes port-led industrial corridors, logistics hubs, and smart cargo handling systems modelled on the Tuas framework, he said. Mr. Naidu and his team, consisting of Ministers Nara Lokesh and T.G. Bharat, and senior officials from the Infrastructure and Industries departments, studied the ultra-modern port, where Asia's second-largest container terminal is under construction. They explored how PSA's automation systems, smart tracking technologies, and green logistics approaches could be adapted for Andhra Pradesh's coastline development. The Tuas Port, being developed in four phases with a total investment of ₹1.70 lakh crore, integrates artificial intelligence, robotics, and full automation in cargo handling. It exemplifies a smart, sustainable model of maritime infrastructure that aligns with Andhra Pradesh's vision of becoming a logistics powerhouse.

Op Sindoor Debate: Amit Shah To Speak In Lok Sabha Tomorrow, PM Modi Likely To Speak
Last Updated: PM Modi will likely address Parliament on Operation Sindoor. Operation Sindoor Debate In Parliament: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to participate in the ongoing debate over Operation Sindoor– India's retaliatory strikes on Pakistan following the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack– and address the Parliament on Tuesday evening. The Prime Minister is likely to address either house of the Parliament at around 7 pm on Tuesday. Additionally, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also expected to lead the discussion in Lok Sabha tomorrow, while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will open the debate in Rajya Sabha. Parliament began the three-day debate on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor from Monday, following a week of disruption. Both the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and the Opposition have fielded senior leaders for the discussions in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The lower house witnessed fiery exchange of words between the treasury and opposition benches over the terror attack and the India's strikes on Pakistan. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh began the debate in Lok Sabha, explaining how, through Operation Sindoor, the Indian armed forces hit nine terror targets in Pakistan and PoK and killed over 100 terrorists. He also said that the Operation was stopped because India's objective was achieved and not under pressure. 'We stopped action because our objectives were met. It is baseless and wrong that the Operation Sindoor was stopped under any pressure," Singh said as his statement was followed by uproar from the Opposition. The opposition parties came down heavily on central government over the announcement of a ceasefire after a three-day conflict between India and Pakistan by US President Donald Trump. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi led the opposition's discussion, questioning the government over alleged security lapses. The Deputy Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha asked Rajnath Singh why he did not mention in his speech how terrorists from Pakistan reached Pahalgam and killed 26 people. 'It is our duty to ask these questions in the interest of the nation," he added. Gogoi also said why security agencies are not able to nab the terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack. Meanwhile, BJP allies– Janata Dal (U) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP)– also came to applaud the government for the decision taken during Operation Sindoor, in which nine terror camps were targeted in Pakistan and PoK. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
