Seoul prosecutors charge duo with blackmail after YouTuber Tzuyang paid to silence threats over coerced past
The blackmail charges, made under the Act on the Punishment of Violent Acts, were issued on April 24 by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office for the women known only by their surnames. One was surnamed Song (32) and the other Kim (29).
The blackmail allegedly took place between June 2021 and November 2022, when the women reportedly threatened to expose Tzuyang's past.
In a video posted last year, Tzuyang revealed that her former agency CEO and ex-boyfriend, surnamed Lee, informed her of the women's threats.
'They're threatening to expose that you worked with them at an adult entertainment venue, so let's pay them off to keep them quiet,' Lee was quoted to have said.
Tzuyang explained that she was coerced into working at the venue due to Lee's violence and intimidation.
The women, who had no prior connection to her, allegedly used information from Lee to carry out their threats.
A producer from Tzuyang's channel met with the women and reached an agreement.
In return for silence, Tzuyang paid them 200 million won, disguised as an advance for a fake YouTube show deal, plus monthly payments of 6 million won.
The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul launched an investigation in July 2024 after Tzuyang's producer filed a criminal complaint.
Though arrest warrants for Kim and others were requested, the court denied them, citing insufficient evidence and no flight risk.
The women were not detained but reportedly apologised to Tzuyang's team late last year.
Despite their apology, prosecutors have proceeded with the indictment, stressing the seriousness of the crime due to the large sum involved.
Joint blackmail carries harsher penalties than regular blackmail, which can lead to up to 10 years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won.
Kim Tae-yeon, Tzuyang's lawyer, stated that blackmailing public figures by threatening to release private information for money is a severe crime and that appropriate punishment is needed to prevent similar incidents.

‘There is no falsehood in my claims': Japanese teen idol files police report after alleged rape and pregnancy by producer's boyfriend
TOKYO, Aug 3 — A 19-year-old Japanese teen idol has filed a police report after allegedly being raped and impregnated by the boyfriend of the group's producer and influencer, Yurinya. The allegations were first leaked by Japanese YouTuber Korekore on August 1 and later confirmed by Yurinya in a social media statement, according to a report by Koreaboo. Yurinya named her former partner in the statement, saying, 'I am deeply saddened and feel a strong sense of responsibility that someone I trusted, Taichi Saito, committed such an extremely irresponsible and inconsiderate act.' 'As a producer and an individual, I want to make it clear that I strongly denounce his actions and have completely severed all personal and professional ties with him.' Korekore claimed that the idol, a member of Japanese idol group Pretty Chuu — identified as Ten-ten in Yurinya's statement and as Shuna Amamiya in Japanese media reports — was secretly undressed and filmed while asleep at Yurinya's home. Although Saito later apologised to her via Line messages, it was alleged that he subsequently raped her while she was asleep, resulting in a pregnancy and later, an abortion. Korekore alleged that Saito pressured Amamiya to stay silent and offered a settlement of ¥1 million (approximately RM28,878). Amamiya reportedly reached out to Korekore for help before filing a police report. Yurinya said she first learned of the incident through the leaked post and confirmed its accuracy after speaking with those involved. She pledged to prioritise the affected member's well-being and strengthen the group's support systems. In the statement, Yurinya also apologised to the idol involved, the other Pretty Chuu members, the staff and the fans for the worry and trouble caused by the incident. Pretty Chuu management had previously cited 'chronic illness' as the reason for Amamiya's hiatus. A recent review of the group's official Instagram page showed only five members, despite Pretty Chuu debuting with six. In a Twitter update yesterday, Korekore shared conflicting accounts of the incident: Amamiya claimed, 'There was no consent while in a drunken state,' while Saito said, 'They kissed me, and it was consensual.' Japanese police are reportedly reconstructing the situation, as the incident occurred in private and evidence remains inconclusive. Korekore revealed that Amamiya visited a hospital to request medical records in order to clarify whether her pregnancy was linked to the alleged assault or a previous relationship. 'The documents will arrive by mail in a few days,' they said. Amamiya has announced her withdrawal from idol activities and asserted, 'There is no falsehood in my claims.' Thai hospital wraps ‘khanom Tokyo' in patient files, earns rap with 1.21m baht fine
BANGKOK, Aug 3 — Thailand's Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) has fined a major hospital in the country 1.21 million baht (RM160,000) after confidential patient files were found repurposed as wrappers for snacks. Citing the PDPC, The Bangkok Post reported that the private hospital contracted a small business to dispose of over 1,000 files of confidential documents. But the business didn't, and was later found to have been turned into wrappers for crispy crepes, known locally as khanom Tokyo. The business owner admitted fault and was fined 16,940 baht, the Thai daily reported. The hospital case was among five major data breaches disclosed by the PDPC on Friday. The Bangkok Post also reported PDPC disclosing that a state agency and its contractor were fined a combined 153,120 baht for failing to secure a web app that leaked the personal data of over 200,000 citizens that was later sold on the dark web. Three more cases involved online retailers and distributors, which faced fines between 500,000 and seven million baht.
