Jet2 to launch new route to historic island from Glasgow Airport
Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, the 'UK's largest tour operator' has introduced flights and holidays to Kos from Glasgow Airport 'as Greece continues to enjoy enormous popularity with holidaymakers'.

(Image: Getty Images) It will operate new weekly Tuesday services from Glasgow Airport to the island from May 26 to October 20, 2026, 'offering holidaymakers in the region the opportunity to discover the destination's diverse offering of historical sights, stunning scenery and golden beaches'.
Jet2 said: 'Part of the showstopping Dodecanese Islands, Kos has long been a favourite for sunshine holidays. Holidaymakers can choose from lively party towns, laid-back seaside resorts and traditional fishing villages, all of them boasting beautiful beaches and dishing up heavenly traditional cuisine.
'With its rich culture and history of the capital, Kos Town, Kos is an island where centuries-old relics neighbour vibrant bars and buzzy promenades meet.'
Jet2.com and Jet2holidays will operate to 40 destinations from Glasgow Airport next year.

Airline launches new Scots flights to popular Italian cities with fares from £26.99
Wizz Air will fly from Glasgow Airport to two major Italian cities Budget airline Wizz Air will fly from Glasgow Airport to the Italian cities of Milan and Rome with prices starting at £26.99 from October. The new routes will make the iconic destinations more accessible to Scots travellers. There will be flights weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and the move marks an expansion of the company's Italian network. The first flights to Milan will take off from Glasgow to Milan Malpensa Airport on October 27. Flights to Rome Fiumicino will also launch on that day and will also fly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Tickets for the new routes can be purchased from now on the Wizz Air website or their official app. Milan, a two-and-a-half hour flight from Glasgow, is famed for as being a leading fashion capital of the world and home to the 19th Century Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. But Lombardy's capital city is also a gastronomic centre with it's Risotto alla Milanese and veal cutlet Cotoletta alla Milanese wowing visitors. Tourists can take in the sights of the it's stunning gothic cathedral The Duomo (Milan Cathedral) and 14th Century castle Castello Sforzesco too and it's the perfect weekend trip. Rome is the home of some equally iconic landmarks from the Colosseum and the Pantheon to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. No trip is complete without visiting The Vatican City which is home to St Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. And it would be rude not to gorge on it's food. The airport has also welcomed new Jet2 flights to the island of Kos from next summer. The carrier this week announced they would fly directly to the Greek hotspot famed for it's sandy beaches and history. The weekly service will start on May 26, 2026 and will run every Tuesday until October 20, 2026.

A major incident has been declared by firefighters tackling a large moor fire in the North York Moors National Park It was the third reported death in Spain due to the recent horror fires. Thousands of holidaymakers have been evacuated from their hotels as the massive fires continue to wreak havoc. Tourists were fleeing Greece's Zakynthos and Kefalonia islands "by the minute" on Wednesday as fires continued to rip through the Mediterranean. Three people have been arrested in connection with the fire, which authorities said could have been deliberately set. Evacuation centres were also filled to max capacity in parts of central Spain, with some spending the night outdoors on folding beds. Services along a high-speed rail link between Madrid and the northwestern Galicia region were suspended after fires got close to some sections of the tracks, state rail company Renfe said. In Turkey, a forestry worker was killed on Wednesday while responding to a wildfire in a southern region, officials said. Turkey has been battling severe wildfires since late June. A total of 18 people have been killed, including 10 rescue volunteers and forestry workers who died in July. In Greece - the latest country to face the wrath of raging fires - officials ordered young Brit revellers to leave hotels as a "precautionary measure". One local official spoke of "an unending nightmare" as houses, farms and factories in the city of Patras and large parts of northern and central Greece have been devastated by the flames. Since Wednesday morning, 4,850 firefighters backed by the army and 33 planes have been scrambled across Greece.

Air Canada started to cancel flights on Thursday, August 14, and predict a full shutdown on Saturday, August 16. Edinburgh Airport and Glasgow Airport could be affected on routes to Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver amid what has been described by experts as "the most severe North American shutdown in decades". The Daily Record has reported that 100 per cent of Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge operations ceasing from Saturday morning. The industrial action will disrupt between 18 and 28 flights from the UK each day, according to air passenger rights company, AirAdvisor. They said that it will impact up to 5,600 passengers flying from the United Kingdom. Airports "bearing the brunt" of the upheaval will be Edinburgh, London Heathrow and Manchester. There will also be secondary impact at Glasgow and Birmingham Airports. Edinburgh Airport sees a daily flight to Toronto Pearson Airport while Glasgow Airport has flights via codeshares or direct services. Glasgow Airport also offers flights to Montreal. The strike is unique in that it will lead to a total shutdown of airline operations. The action is also indefinite with no end date, fliers have been warned. Families heading to Canada for summer holidays or students travelling for the start of term are facing hundreds, even thousands, in unexpected expenses. "Business travellers, many of whom choose Air Canada for its reliability and premium cabins, will now have to contend with operational uncertainty that ripples across multiple continents." AirAdvisor said passengers with flights booked should act now. Anton said: " First, check your flight status daily and set alerts via your airline's app. If your booking is inflexible, look at refundable one-stop alternatives via New York, Boston, or Reykjavik before those options sell out. "Keep receipts for any out-of-pocket costs, from meals to hotels, as Canada's APPR rules require airlines to cover reasonable expenses for delays or cancellations within their control. He added: "If you must travel during the strike days, aim for early morning departures when disruption is typically lower, and avoid tight connections. For those who can, consider pushing non-essential trips by a week. "Not only will stress levels drop, but you may also save significantly on fares once the initial rebooking rush subsides.'
