If you're after a more peaceful pet experience, you may be interested in a breed of pup renowned for their calm energy. The experts at Animigo have rounded up a list of the top five calmest dog breeds that aren't likely to be a total stress to own.

1. Pug
Animigo says on their website: "A tiny ball of cuteness, pugs are great when it comes to lazy dog breeds. As a result of their squashed face, they're prone to breathing problems, so only require minimal exercise, making them ideal inside dogs.
"In addition to this, being on average only around 20 pounds, they are great for sitting on your lap and chilling out on the sofa, so when looking for lazy dogs to accompany your laid-back lifestyle, look no further than a pug!"
But while they may be quiet, pugs are also known for their flatulence, so while your home may be calm, it may also be stinky.
2. Great Dane
The animal experts explain that despite their size, these pooches are gentle giants at heart.
"Great Danes are pretty chilled and aren't likely to get over excited when you walk in the door or anxious when you leave the house", the animal pros said. "They're generally serene and quiet, making them one of the best calm dog breeds for those looking for a big dog!"
3. Basset Hound
Basset Hounds are stereotyped to be calm and content, and as long as they are able to exercise regularly, they're typically lazy around the house.
Older pet parents who don't want to be run off their feet will benefit from this dog's chilled-out attitude, as they aren't likely to cause chaos.
4. Shih Tzu
Animago said: "Although they have a bit of a reputation as a 'yappy' breed, with proper training and care they can be a good example when it comes to calm dogs. Thanks to their tiny size, they don't require too much time exercising outdoors, making them perfect indoor companions."
They still require plenty of playing and attention, and also need regularly groomed, but a Shih Tzu is a great option for those looking for a small dog.
5. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Also on our list of the most affordable pooches, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can be easily trained, making them perfect when looking for calm dogs.
Unlike many small dogs, a Cavalier isn't very loud, so they are a great quiet dog breed, and their small size means they don't require loads of exercise, and so are happy to lounge around the house.

Steven, who has secured support for Myla across the sport, described the youngster as a "the real fighter in the family." He added: "She's only 10 years old and she's already went through way more than i have my whole life." Myla has already survived intensive care, multiple operations, and being put in a coma, all before her 11th birthday. Doctors diagnosed Myla with frontal lobe epilepsy and later found a malformation in her brain called cortical dysplasia, a condition that began before birth. She had part of her brain removed in May 2023, but the seizures returned. Doctors to hope stimulate her brain to trigger a seizure that reveals the exact area to remove. Mum, Natalie said: "If we don't do it, the seizures will keep getting worse and it could kill her.' "They told us the medication was no longer working. "We were told if we don't go ahead with this next operation, there's a high probability of death as she's drug resistant." In the upcoming operation, surgeons will insert rods into her brain. She will be monitored for a week in a bid to identify the exact seizure source. If no seizure happens naturally, her medication will be stopped, increasing the risk of a coma or even death. Natalie added: "They've talked us through everything that could go wrong. "She could have a heart attack, a stroke or they could hit a blood vessel, but at this point it's our only option." Myla's condition has also taken a toll on her development and has left her with the brain capacity of a four-year-old. The youngster doesn't understand days, weeks or danger, and often uses a wheelchair when her mobility is affected. Despite it all, Natalie appreciates the better days: "I'm so thankful for the days she's going about laughing." Back in 2023, before Myla's first surgery, her parents turned to fundraising to pay for private care as NHS wait times grew too long. The campaign went viral, attracting donations from around the world - including a £1,000 contribution from Outlander star Sam Heughan and a staggering £10,000 from UFC president Dana White. Steven launched the GoFundMe alongside Natalie which smashed the initial £100,000 target, eventually reaching over £110,000. Should the procedure be a success, Myla is likely to face more brain surgery potentially by the end of the year. The family are staying strong even as they face terrifying possibilities. Natalie said: "We've been told the odds; it's basically 50/50 whether she'll be able to have another operation after this one." "But at this point we will try anything."

A new scheme launched this month is allowing selected dental practices to treat noisy sleepers. Scotland's chronic snorers could soon get respite from an unlikely source - a trip to the dentist's. A new scheme launched this month is allowing selected dental practices to treat noisy sleepers. They will be able to prescribe special retainers for chronic snorers who are currently having to wait up to 18 months for hospital treatment on the NHS. Edinburgh dentist Odhran McNichol, of Craigentinny Dental Care, told how his practice is using 3D printing to mould the retainers - called Mandibular Advancement Devices (MADs). He said: "We've seen a steady stream of interest. More often than not, it's the sufferer's partner who brings it up, as they're the ones losing sleep and pushing for a solution. 'Generally people are unaware their dentist can help so most don't think to ask their dentist about sleep problems, it's just not something that crosses their mind. 'There is a lot of information on the internet about treatments for snoring and sleep apnoea, but not all of it is accurate.' More than quarter of Scottish adults are snorers. And around two in three snore so loudly their partner moves to a different bed - known as a "sleep divorce." Participating dentists will be able to prescribe NHS-approved MADs thanks to a training programme run by 32Co. MADs are like a retainer which can be fitted over two sessions, with the user then able to adjust their device manually to suit their mouth. They improve night-time breathing by making your lower jaw move forward slightly, opening your airway while you sleep and reducing noisy snoring. MADs are less bulky and cumbersome than the traditional CPAP breathing masks often prescribed for chronic snorers. McNichol added: 'Of course CPAP devices are gold standard for sleep apnoea, and we would not encourage patients to stop using these. 'But MADs can have a place for heavy snorers who don't necessarily have sleep apnoea as well as patients that struggle with wearing a CPAP or are travelling.' Sleep apnoea can lead to other health problems like high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. If someone finds a person with a SafeConnect fob who appears lost, they can use their smartphone to tap the fob and access the stored information. The devices will be given free to anyone suffering from dementia under the initiative, which is being rolled out following successful pilots. Alzheimer Scotland said: "We're proud to launch SafeConnect in partnership with Police Scotland – a new safeguarding initiative to support people with dementia who may be at risk of going missing. "The SafeConnect fob is a small, yellow device that can be carried or attached to clothing. It holds secure emergency contact details and can be scanned with a smartphone using NFC (which enables communication between two electronic devices) to help quickly reunite someone with their loved ones or carers. "After a successful pilot in Argyll & Bute and West Dunbartonshire, we're now rolling out SafeConnect fobs free of charge to anyone living with dementia across Scotland." There are an estimated 90,000 people living with dementia in Scotland. Police Scotland say that at some point 40% of them will go missing. Since 2021, the Herbert Protocol has been rolled out in Scotland to help police and other agencies quickly and safely locate missing people who have dementia.
