Minehead school bus crash latest: One child killed after coach carrying dozens of pupils overturns in Somerset
The coach was carrying 60-70 passengers and was heading back to a nearby middle school in Minehead on Thursday afternoon when the incident took place on the A396 at Cutcombe Hill.
A local resident said the coach had gone off the road and down a 20-foot slope.
Avon and Somerset Police said on Thursday evening that a child had died following the incident.
Speaking outside Bridgwater Police Centre, Chief Superintendent Mark Edgington said: 'A number of other people have presented or been taken to hospital, some with serious injuries.
'This includes two children who were taken to hospital by air ambulance, many passengers either sustained minor injuries or were physically unharmed and were transferred to a rest centre.
'Work to help them return to Minehead has been taking place throughout the evening. An investigation into the cause of this incident will be carried out.'

Henbury attack on woman walking to work leads to arrest

Devon fire crews tackle gorse fire on open moorland
Investigations are under way following a gorse fire in and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to the blaze behind the old engine house at Wheal Betsy, Mary Tavy, at about 22:10 BST on service said crews from Tavistock, Yelverton, Plympton and Bere Alston tackled the fire on the open moorland, an area covering about 20m by 30m (65ft by 100ft).It said crews revisited the scene on Sunday morning, adding the incident had been handed over to the police.

Yeovil murder victim's body not found despite police tip off
The body of a murder victim lay undiscovered for weeks despite police being alerted to someone calling for help, according to the police watchdog.A report by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said Avon and Somerset Police officers were refused entry to a flat in Yeovil n 24 August 2024 after receiving an anonymous call saying someone had been heard shouting "call the police".Just over three weeks later, the force received another anonymous tip-off to say there was a dead body at the same body of Michael Wheeler, 37, was later found in a derelict caravan on farmland in Yarlington on 25 September of that year, after several people had been arrested.
